Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1 is here to save you from stuck navigation buttons
Paul Jones / Android Authority TL;DR Google has released the Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1 update. This update offers plenty of bug fixes, from unresponsive navigation buttons to fingerprint authentication issues. The new update is available on all of Google's Tensor-powered phones and the Pixel Tablet. Google launched Android 16 QPR1 beta 1 last month, but the early nature of these software releases means you should definitely expect plenty of bugs. Now, Google has released Android 16 QPR1 beta 1.1, bringing plenty of fixes. The company confirmed the new beta software's release on Reddit, while also noting version number BP31.250502.008.A1. Google also posted a changelog, which highlights all the fixes. Android 16 QPR 1 beta 1.1 bug fixes The navigation buttons would become unresponsive in the app drawer or task switcher The progress bar in the media player on the lock screen doesn't reflect the place in media Fixed a crash when trying to open effects in wallpaper The settings app would crash after trying to open the battery menu The lock screen date could get cut off when using a wide clock style The search button has a different color when scrolling The approve button in Device Admin settings is missing Dark album labels appeared in the photo picker when in dark mode, impacting readability The date wasn't appearing on the homescreen Fixed a fingerprint authentication failure on a multi-user Android device in certain low-power conditions There are a few notable fixes here, but I'm particularly glad to see the update addresses an issue where the navigation keys would become unresponsive. After all, you can't exactly use your phone without these keys if you aren't using gesture navigation. The new beta software is available on the Pixel 6 series and newer, the Pixel 6a and newer, the Pixel Fold and newer, and the Pixel Tablet. In other words, if your Pixel device was eligible for the first Android 16 QPR 1 beta, this should be available to you. The news also comes as we continue to uncover more features and improvements in Android 16 QPR 1. More recently, we discovered Google is working on a feature to stop HDR content turning screens super bright, as well as a cool suggested wallpaper option. Got a tip? Talk to us! What the Tech: Chat GPT or something else
You've probably used Chat GPT for any number of things, but it isn't the only AI game in town. Three other major AI platforms are receiving a lot of attention. Chat GPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft CoPilot, and Perplexity are comparable in many ways, but does one stand out from the others? To find out, I put them all to the test, asking the same questions. What I found is they're all good at what they do, but some are better at certain jobs. ChatGPT has become a household name, and for good reason. It's great for content creation, brainstorming, and generating ideas in a friendly, natural tone. For instance, when asked for birthday party ideas for a 10-year-old, ChatGPT delivered creative and detailed responses. It also shines for planning vacations, finding restaurants, and coming up with gift ideas. Perplexity has rapidly shifted the AI space, and even the free version has some of the best tools for finding answers. I think of Perplexity as 'Google on steroids'. It focuses on real-time web searches with clear citations. If you're doing research on a topic or drafting an outline for a paper or report, Perplexity generates responses that include clickable links to the sources it uses. When I asked about the latest statistics on electric vehicle sales in the U.S., Perplexity delivered accurate information with verifiable sources, a feature not consistently offered by other platforms. Google's Gemini is deeply integrated into the Google ecosystem, making it ideal for users who use Google products. Gemini can summarize lengthy email threads, draft replies, and locate files within Google Drive. Its seamless integration with Gmail and Google Docs streamlines workflow for those committed to the Google suite. Google also just introduced new features to Gemini, including what is perhaps the best video and photo generator in the AI world. Some of those tools aren't available for users of the free version. For Microsoft Office power users, CoPilot is a game-changer. This AI assistant can analyze spreadsheets, summarize Excel documents, and even suggest slide titles and content for PowerPoint presentations. CoPilot provides charts and insights, acting like a virtual coworker whose specialty is everything Microsoft. So, which AI tool is the best? The answer depends on your specific needs. ChatGPT shines in content creation and general use. Perplexity is best for web searches with citations, Gemini is perfect for Google product users, and CoPilot is the best tool for those working extensively with Microsoft Office. One AI platform does not check all of the boxes at the moment. Use them all. And if you're considering a subscription to any of them (typically $20 per month), this may help you decide which one is worth it. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Staff Achievements in the United Counties
Staff were recognized at recent council meetings for their achievements in attaining accreditation in their career paths. Municipal staff work to expand their skillset to ensure they offer the best services to the residents and level of governance they serve. For SDG Counties, Lindsay Parisien was congratulated on attaining her Registered Professional Planners (RPPs) designation. RPPs are certified planners for public spaces focused on creating diverse communities through actionable plans that benefit communities. Commitment to become a designated RPP is imperative since the certification can take between three and seven years to complete. SDG Counties are sure to benefit from Lindsay's expertise and vision for the future of the united counties. In North Glengarry, Josh Decoste achieved his Associate Roads Supervisor accreditation. This level is achieved through hours of hands-on driving experience, along with completing courses in construction and maintenance. Josh has been working towards his goal for four years and the entire team at North Glengarry is proud of his achievement. Residents living in the united counties will certainly benefit from the efforts of both Lindsay Parisien and Josh Decoste to reach higher levels in their career paths and, in turn, provide expanded services to SDG Counties.
