‘Biggest brown ever' slithers across Aussie golf course

Golfers have been left shocked after seeing a massive eastern brown snake slithering along a course on the NSW Central Coast.
The huge reptile was filmed making its way along the Magenta Shores golf course in broad daylight as horrified spectators watched on from a distance.
The video was posted to the Snake Identification Australia group by Peter Jones where it was identified as an eastern brown.

Viewers were in disbelief, with one commenting, 'That would have to be THE biggest brown EVER'.
'I am never going there for a visit,' wrote another.
'I think l would have dropped dead seeing that in front of me,' agreed another.
Eastern brown snakes are among the most notorious venomous snakes in Australia, with a bite being fatal in little as half an hour.
Known for their speed, agility and highly potent venom, these snakes are responsible for more snake bites in Australia than any other species.
Found primarily in eastern Australia, they are highly adaptable and can be found in various habitats such as woodlands, scrublands, grasslands and suburban gardens.

Austin Pols from Sydney Snakes and Wildlife Removal told news.com.au that they had never caught a brown snake of that size.
'It looks to be nearly three meters. Usually they only grow to two meters in length with a 1.5 metre average. Anything larger is spectacular,' he said.
'It seems to be very well fed and survived many seasons.'
Eastern brown snakes can live to 10-plus years in the wild 'if they're lucky' as opposed to an average of seven in captivity. However, they are generally more likely to have longer lifespans in captivity due to ample food.
They mainly survive off rodents, lizards, birds and frogs, making a golf course prime real estate for the reptile.

'This snake looks to be six or seven years old, however it is impossible to know for sure,' said Mr Pols.
'It seems to have tolerated the harshest conditions or gotten extremely lucky.'
Mr Pols estimates that the snake has reached its enormous size due to a great mix of luck, ample food, water sources and undisturbed shelter.
'We get calls out in golf courses frequently. They tend to love the location due to it offering a snake everything it could possible need, namely food, shelter, water and sun,' he added.
Despite the ongoing fear of these deadly animals, Mr Pols urges Aussies to note that snakes want absolutely nothing to do with humans.
'If encountered in a golf course, keep your distance and let it pass by. Luckily, golf courses are usually well maintained, making it near impossible to accidentally step on one and risk getting bitten.'

Channel 7's Abbey Holmes welcomes first baby, shares brutal birth ordeal

Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Channel 7 AFL presenter Abbey Holmes and her husband Keegan Brooksby have welcomed their first baby together, a son named Braxton. The pair shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the birth did not go exactly according to plan. 'Mummy laboured all day on Friday, only for me to be born via c section at 5:49pm on 6/6 weighing 3.585kg's,' the caption read. 'My head was faaaar too large so we had to change our plans late in the piece!' The couple's well-known friends were quick to offer celebratory messages under the birth announcement. 'Cool dude joining a cool crew,' wrote Australian comedian Dave Hughes. 'Congrats,' wrote radio presenter and AFL great Brendan Fevola. Josh Daicos' partner Annaliese Dalins commented: 'Adorable — congratulations sweetheart xx sending you and your beautiful family lots of love.' Seven News' chief sports presenter Rebecca Maddern posted: 'Oh Abbey I've been waiting for this news! He's just perfect! Enjoy the love bubble - rest up.' Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac added: 'Glorious!!! So happy for you guys.' The Instagram post shows photos of the newborn in a blue onesie and beanie, next to a toy bunny with the words, 'my first bunny.' The post also shows a smiling selfie of the new parents carrying their newborn. The former AFWL star turned Channel 7 announced her pregnancy in January, saying her and her husband Keegan Brooksby were 'on cloud nine'. 'Keegan and I have shared a very busy year, but 2025 is set to be our biggest and best yet. We could not be happier to welcome our first child into the world, later this year,' Holmes told The Herald Sun. Holmes made the discovery she was pregnant after incredibly running the New York Marathon in November, with the news coming as a total surprise. 'We are so excited and grateful to be in this position, as we know how difficult it can be for so many people. We're on cloud nine and can't wait for this next chapter.' 'We discovered that I was pregnant a few weeks after returning home from running the New York Marathon,' Holmes continued. 'As you can imagine, it was a bit of a shock given what I had just put my body through, but I'm in awe of what the human body can do. 'Keegan and I told our families at Christmas, which was a really special time for us all. We wanted to share our news with as many people as possible in person, so we've spent the last few weeks doing that. There were plenty of tears, that's for sure. 'I've been lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful start to my pregnancy, and we're soaking up every moment.' The 33-year-old was an inaugural member of the Adelaide Crows' AFLW team and since hanging up the boots, has been a key part of Seven's AFL and AFLW commentary team. As well as being a beloved commentator, Holmes has also appeared on reality TV shows Survivor and SAS Australia. Her partner, Brooksby, is also a former AFL player. He joined Gold Coast via the 2015 rookie draft and played 14 games in his three seasons at the club. He spent one year at West Coast in 2019, where he didn't manage to make an appearance, before playing one more AFL game at Hawthorn. The couple have been together since 2017 after matching on a dating app. Brooksby popped the question in Uluru in 2020 before the pair tied the knot in 2023. Aussies shocked after learning little-known fact about sushi

When you're out and about and feeling peckish, heading to your local takeaway sushi joint is often a safe bet. Whether you're in a shopping centre or grabbing lunch on your office break, you know you'll find a fresh, satisfying sushi roll, ready to eat on the go. It's a great option for busy lifestyles, thanks to the fact you can enjoy it with just one hand and don't need any utensils to eat it. But while Aussies are used to this convenient, single roll sushi, a viral video has revealed that not everyone around the world eats it the same way. Dietitian En Min Saw recently took to TikTok to share her discovery: the sushi we know and love is so unique, it's even called 'Australian sushi' in other countries. 'How did I forget this wasn't normal?' Ms Saw said in the clip, which has now racked up over three million views. 'Everyone eats it like a burrito'. She then shared a screenshot of a Google search for 'Australian sushi', and sure enough, those iconic hand rolls appeared. Her video was flooded with comments from confused viewers who had no idea this convenient snack wasn't the norm elsewhere. 'I thought this was normal – this is just sushi,' said one commenter. 'I've lived in Australia my whole life, and I thought this was normal sushi,' said another. 'As an Australian, how is it meant to look?' asked someone else. 'I'm from Asia and I just moved to Australia. I was so confused when I first saw that, but it's very convenient and perfect if you need a grab-and-go meal,' added another viewer. A different user admitted they had to search 'normal sushi' to find out what it looks like elsewhere. In Japan, the birthplace of sushi, you'll find a wide variety of sushi, from nigiri – bite-sized portions of rice and fresh sashimi – to maki, which are rolled and sliced into neat rounds (we can get that style here too). In the US, the California roll is a staple, which includes avocado, cucumber, and crab, turned inside out with rice on the outside, again cut into pieces. Korea offers kimbap, which is a similar roll but with rice seasoned with sesame oil instead of vinegar, often filled with vegetables and meat. Meanwhile, Mexico's sushirrito is a giant, burrito-sized roll, and Brazil is famous for its temaki, or cone-shaped sushi.
