Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum celebrates 20th anniversary of USS Razorback return

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock celebrated 20 years since the USS Razorback submarine returned from its last trip in the open ocean. Navy veteran and tour guide Joseph Mathis said the submarine was built in 1943 and used by both the United States and its ally, Turkey, for 56 years of active duty. USS Razorback celebrates 80th anniversary of commission 'It went on war patrols. So, its job was to locate enemy vessels and send them to the bottom of the ocean,' Mathis said. But this submarine has had many jobs, and Mathis said its job right now is to educate people on history. The museum is celebrating 20 years of giving Arkansas a chance to learn more about its history and other Navy veterans a chance to remember the times they were once in a submarine similar to the USS Razorback. 'I got emotional. Because I've never been on a submarine tour or otherwise after I got out of service in '87,' Navy veteran Keith Frank said.
