Former 911 director Tyrell Morris announces run for New Orleans Mayor
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former 911 director Tyrell Morris has announced his run for Mayor of New Orleans.
Morris stepped down from his position as Orleans Parish Communication District Executive Director in 2023.

In 2024, Morris was indicted on charges of malfeasance in office, false personation of a peace officer, insurance fraud and second-degree injuring public records in connection with the investigation of an alleged cover-up of a crash involving a city-owned vehicle.
WGNO's LBJ spoke with Morris on Thursday to discuss his decision to run and ask what voters should think, considering he hasn't been to trial yet on those charges.

'When I left 911, my desire to run for mayor is nothing that came yesterday. This has been a two-year evaluation process. If you know anything about New Orleans our political machine, when you feel like you're being infiltrated in that machine you become a target. So, I feel strongly that that's what happened to me, but I actually am looking forward to the opportunity through the criminal justice system to defend myself and I feel very strongly and confident that I will prevail in that,' said Morris.

Workers pulled from water tank near Tarrant-Parker county line
The Brief Two workers were found unresponsive in a water tank near the Parker/Tarrant County border Friday, prompting an investigation. Co-workers called 911 after losing contact with the men, who were performing water infrastructure checks. Their current condition remains unknown. An investigation is underway after two workers were found in a water tank near the border of Parker and Tarrant County. Deputies with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office were called to the 12000 block of Aledo Road after two men were found. The men were performing checks of water infrastructure in the area. When co-workers could not reach them, they called 911. By the time rescue crews arrived, the men were found unresponsive. What we don't know The condition of the workers is unknown. A former Texas megachurch pastor is being sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted and abused her when she was 12 years old. The suit, filed this week in Dallas County District court, accuses Gateway Church founder Robert Morris and others of libel, malice, defamation, slander, failure to report, civil conspiracy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and unjust enrichment. They are seeking more than $1 million in damages.
