US, Chinese military officials hold talks in Shanghai
WASHINGTON, April 3 (Reuters) - U.S. and Chinese military officials met in Shanghai for a series of meetings which the U.S. military said on Thursday were focused on reducing unsafe actions by Chinese military ships and planes.
"Military officials from the U.S. traveled to Shanghai, China to meet for working-level talks focused on decreasing the incidences of unsafe and unprofessional PLA Navy and PLA Airforce actions," the U.S. military statement said, using an acronym for the People's Liberation Army.
The semi-annual talks, known as the military maritime consultative agreement (MMCA) working group, took place this week, the statement added.
The United States has long complained about dangerous flying and sailing by the Chinese military in the region.
China's military on Wednesday concluded two-day war games around Taiwan in which it held long-range, live-fire drills in the East China Sea, marking an escalation of exercises around the island.

The devastating aerial attacks sparked intense recovery operations as emergency services battled against fires in residential neighbourhoods. Air raid alerts in Kyiv lasted for around five hours as they first alerted residents at around 5am, according to military data. Russia sent out a 315 drone blitz in the attack, including 250 Shaheds, and seven missiles, according to Volodymyr Zelensky. A harrowing image of the capital's skyline shows how it had been engulfed by a cloud of orange from the numerous blasts. As the sun rose in the morning residents complained they 'could not see the dawn' due to the thick black smoke still lingering in the air. Timur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military district, said on Telegram: "A difficult night for all of us. "Throughout the night, the enemy relentlessly terrorised Kyiv with attack drones. "They targeted civilian infrastructure and peaceful residents of the city." Russia claimed they had only targeted the Ukrainian Artem plant which is where Kyiv produces air-to-air missiles, air-guided weapons, and anti-tank guided missiles. Zelensky also said large swaths of Odesa, Dnipro region, and Chernihiv were all hit overnight. The heroic leader said the night from hell marked one of the "largest attacks" in the gruelling war to date. In Odesa, a maternity hospital and residential buildings were all completely destroyed. Two were killed at the hands of Putin across the city. Speaking on X, Zelensky said: "In Odesa, even a maternity hospital became a Russian target. "Thirteen people were injured. Tragically, there are fatalities. My condolences to the families. "It is vital that the response to this and other similar Russian attacks is not silence from the world, but concrete action." Ukraine now reportedly faces over 500 drone strikes every night, as Russia appears to have stepped up assaults following operation Spiderweb. Earlier this week, Russian drones and missiles were launched at Kyiv again as Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers were reportedly unleashed to rain hell on the infamous Snake Island in the Black Sea. Moscow launched a massive strike on Rivne using its Tu-22M3 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers to hit Dubny airbase. Another key Ukrainian military airport - Hostomel - was also attacked as Putin sought revenge for the humiliating attack. Polish armed forces command said Nato fighter jets were patrolling due to 'intensive air attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory'. Just days ago, Kharkiv was rocked overnight as 48 kamikaze drones, along with missiles and guided bombs, slammed into residential areas, according to the city's mayor. 'We have a lot of damage,' Ihor Terekhov said. More than 50 explosions rocked Kharkiv, with the mayor adding it was 'the most powerful attack' on the city of the 39-month war.

The death threat to Fauci and Gates - two people who have drawn the ire of President Donald Trump's MAGA base - was painted on a train car marked DODX, property of the Defense Department. Steve Warren, an Army spokesperson, said the Army has no plans to investigate. "We removed the post once notified of graffiti on the train that didn't align with Army values," he said. "We are excited to celebrate 250 years of service to the nation next week." Dr. Anthony Fauci, who led the government's response to COVID during Trump's first term, and Bill Gates, the billionaire Microsoft founder, are frequent targets of criticism from Republicans and Trump's supporters. Fauci has said he received a deluge of death threats and harassment since he became a magnet for right-wing outrage as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases during the Pandemic, making him the public face of many pandemic social distancing policies and the COVID vaccine. Republicans have accused him of funding the Chinese government to create the virus and conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said he "belongs in prison." This time around, the parade is estimated to cost as much as $40 million. Around 7,000 soldiers will also arrive in Washington for the occasion, which will also feature historic warplanes, helicopters, parachutists, and a bevy of events and entertainment.

US stock futures little changed ahead of US-China trade talks
Wholesale price data are due the next day and could give investors an idea of whether there is inflation coming down the pipeline to Americans. Wholesale prices are what businesses pay for their goods and services. At 5:45 a.m. ET, futures linked to the blue-chip Dow rose 0.12%, while broad S&P 500 futures added 0.12% and tech-heavy Nasdaq futures were flat. All three indexes closed higher last week, and the S&P 500 is now less than 3% from its record high. The S&P 500 topped the 6,000 mark for the first time since Feb. 21. Investors will also continue to watch the path of the One, Big Beautfil bill in the Senate after a public and fierce tit-for-tat exchange between Tesla chief executive Elon Musk and Trump over social media about the tax bill. Musk called the bill a "pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination," and Trump called Musk "crazy." Cryptocurrency Cryptocurrency platform Gemini said it confidentially submitted a draft registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering of class A shares.
