PGA Tour money list: Scottie Scheffler vaults to the top with victory at The Memorial

Yahooa day ago

Scottie Scheffler now holds golf's Triple Crown after a late start and a fourth-month climb up the PGA Tour's money and FedEx Cup points ladder.
Scheffler's four-shot victory over Ben Griffin on June 1 in The Memorial, at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, finally gave him the lead over Rory McIlroy on the Tour's money list. The $4 million first-place check in the Tour's Signature event gave Scheffler more than $14.5 million in earnings, while McIlroy, who opted out of the tournament, stayed pat with $13.9 million and change.
Scottie Scheffler celebrates his third victory in four starts with his son Bennett on June 1 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club. Scheffler won The Memorial by four shots over Ben Griffin.
Scheffler retained his lead on the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup points list and has held onto the No. 1 ranking in the world for the 142nd week in a row, the third-longest streak in history behind Tiger Woods (638) and Greg Norman (331).

Scheffler started the season a month late because of a hand injury and didn't win until the PGA on May 18. He's won three of his last four starts and won The Memorial for the second time, only the second player after Tiger Woods to win successive events at the tournament hosted by Jack Nicklaus.
Griffin, who has two victories and four top-10 finishes in his last six starts, moved from 13th to fifth on the money list with his $2.2 million runner-up finish. Sepp Straka, who earned $1.4 million for finishing third in The Memorial, jumped Justin Thomas and is now in third with more than $9.6 million, while Thomas is fourth ($8.79 million).
There are now 87 players who have earned $1 million or more this season, and seven more who are at $900,000 or more.

Scottie Scheffler Reveals Concerning Message Ahead of The U.S. Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The U.S. Open is back this week, and it's shaping up to be one of the most anticipated majors of the year. With Oakmont Country Club hosting, fans and players alike know it's going to be a brutal test of both physical skill and mental endurance. Known for its tight fairways, deep rough, and lightning-fast greens, Oakmont doesn't leave much room for error. The lowest winning score at this venue? Just 5-under. 'The U.S. Open compared to the Masters is a completely different type of test. I think in the Masters you have a lot more shot making when you get around the greens,' Scheffler said at his press conference Tuesday. 'It's just a different type of test,' he said. Comparing it to tennis, where majors are played on different surfaces. "When you miss a green at the Masters, the ball kind of runs away and it goes into these areas and you can play a bump, you can play a flop," Scheffler said. He emphasized how strength and precision will be key, saying, ' Here, when you hit the ball over the green, you're just getting some heavy rough and it's like, let me see how I can pop the ball out of this rough and somehow give myself a look.'
