Shohei Ohtani hits 2 homers against Giants, ending the Dodgers star's 10-game homer drought
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani has hit two homers against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night, emphatically ending the three-time MVP's longest homer drought since joining the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ohtani led off the game with his 24th homer, hammering Landen Roupp's fourth pitch 419 feet deep into the right-field bleachers with an exit velocity of 110.3 mph.
The slugger had been in a 10-game homer drought since June 2, going 10 for 40 in that stretch with no RBIs — although he still had an eight-game hitting streak during his power outage.
Ohtani then led off the sixth with his 25th homer, sending Tristan Beck's breaking ball outside the strike zone into the bleachers in right. He also moved one homer behind the Yankees' Aaron Judge and Seattle's Cal Raleigh for the overall major league lead.
Dodgers fans brought him home with a standing ovation as Ohtani produced his third multihomer game of the season and the 22nd of his career.
Ohtani reached base four times and scored three runs in his first four at-bats, drawing two walks to go with his two homers.
Ohtani hadn't played in 10 straight games without hitting a homer since 2023 in the final 10 games of his six-year tenure with the Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani had slowed down a bit over the past two weeks after he was named the NL Player of the Month for May with a formidable performance, racking up 15 homers and 28 RBIs.

Bears' Caleb Williams Gets Projection That Could Change Everything
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears have been working hard over the last two years to get back into contention. While last season did not go quite as planned, there were still signs of major improvement. Heading into the offseason, it was clear that general manager Ryan Poles wasn't going to hold anything back. He started off the offseason with two major trades to improve the offensive line. Both Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney were acquired. After that the Bears got aggressive in NFL free agency. Drew Dalman was signed, as were Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett. Plenty of other moves were made in addition to those. Caleb Williams #18 of the Chicago Bears warms up before a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Soldier Field on August 17, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. Photo byWhile the roster has improved dramatically, a lot of Chicago's success or lack thereof will rely on its second-year quarterback. Williams has superstar potential and he flashed some of that potential in his rookie season, but it's time to take the next step. Read more: Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Called Out in Brutally Honest Breakdown Ahead of the upcoming season, Williams has received a new projection that would shock the NFL if it came true. Chris Broussard, a notable sports analyst, has named Williams at No. 1 on his list of potential dark horse MVP candidates. "At number one, we go to Chicago. Caleb Williams," Broussard said. "I mean, it's all set up. And here's the thing, he showed enough flashes, like I would be surprised if he does not play well, cause he showed flashes. Four games over 300 (passing yards). Last seven games, 11 touchdowns, only one pick. And here's the competition: Minnesota twice, Detroit twice, San Francisco, Seattle, and Green Bay." Along with Williams, Broussard also named Baker Mayfield and Brock Purdy. All three quarterbacks are hoping to put together big-time years to take their teams to the playoffs. Read more: Aaron Rodgers Reveals What Really Happened With Steelers Talks Throughout his rookie season in 2024, Williams played in 17 games. He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while also running for 489 yards. On the outside looking in, the roster is made up perfectly around Williams for him to succeed. He has elite weapons in D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden III, as well as two tight ends in Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. With those weapons and the arm talent that Williams possesses, a breakout 2025 season is very possible. If he can play at an MVP candidate level, the Bears are going to take a big step in the right direction and be a potential playoff contender. NBA icon celebrates 50th birthday wearing Norfolk State jersey
On June 7, 2025, NBA legend Allen "The Answer" Iverson celebrated his 50th birthday in fitting style-sporting a Michael Vick No. 7 jersey at a lavish after?party that doubled as a testament to sports, music, and HBCU culture colliding under one roof. The festivities were nothing short of remarkable. Hip Hop turned up when Baton Rouge rapper Lil Boosie delivered a high?energy set, igniting the crowd. Among the VIPs were boxing champion Terence Crawford and none other than Norfolk State's head football coach, Michael Vick. The former NFL star, who took the helm at NSU in December 2024, has already begun elevating the university's brand through his celebrity gravitas and wide network. Vick's hiring marks part of a broader trend in HBCU athletics, following trailblazers like Deion Sanders and Eddie George, in leveraging household names to boost visibility and recruitment. Norfolk State's athletic director, Melody Webb, emphasized that Vick's "resilience and personal journey" make him the perfect ambassador to attract talent and media attention. Meanwhile, Iverson-born June?7,?1975, in Hampton, Virginia-reflected on a career that defied expectations. Standing just 6?0? and 165?lb, he was a rare force in a league of giants. Nicknamed "The Answer," he amassed 11 NBA All?Star nods, a 2001 MVP award, four scoring titles, and over 24,000 career points, all with his trademark fearless style and cultural flair. After retiring in 2011, he continued shaping the game's culture and influence-later culminating in a statue unveiled near the 76ers' training complex in 2024. That evening, with music booming, HBCU jerseys front and center, and legends mingling, Iverson's milestone became more than personal-it was a celebration of intertwined legacies. As coach Vick builds Norfolk State's brand and Iverson's influence endures, the night stood as a vivid reminder that greatness spans generations, sports, and stages.
