Woman shot outside CIA headquarters
A woman has been shot after failing to stop her car outside the CIA headquarters in Virginia, according to reports.
Security guards at the Langley compound fired shots at the driver outside the agency's building in McLean, Virginia, early on Thursday morning, CBS reported.
The woman was allegedly shot in the upper body and taken to a nearby medical facility to undergo treatment.
The shooting is 'non-fatal,' police told MSNBC, and a CIA investigation is under way.
Fairfax County police responded to the incident at around 4am, providing assistance to CIA officers and coordinating traffic control, authorities told MSNBC.
It is the second incident at the CIA headquarters in recent months, after a man pulled a handgun on himself outside the building in March.
The man pointed the gun at his head and had to be talked down by police in a 'barricade incident' that lasted several hours, according to ABC.
A CIA spokesman said: 'There was a security incident that law enforcement responded to outside CIA headquarters.'
The intelligence agency said in an X post that the main gate at CIA's Langley compound was closed and directed employees to seek alternate routes.
The shooting incident came after two Israeli Embassy staffers were killed by a lone gunman in downtown Washington, on Wednesday night. There was no indication the incidents were related.

Frantic search for Navy sailor who vanished from her Virginia barracks without a trace
Family and friends of a Virginia Navy sailor are looking for answers after her sudden disappearance - as officials warned that she may be in danger. Angelina 'Angie' Petra Resendiz, 21, was last seen at her barracks at Naval Station Norfolk on the morning of May 29. Her friends and family haven't heard from her since, which her mother says is very unusual. 'She calls my mother, she calls her brother, her sisters; she has friends—middle school friends she still talks to,' said Esmeralda Castle who headed to Virginia to learn more about her 21-year-old daughter's uncharacteristic departure. 'I need to start looking for my kid because I don't know what's going on.' Castle told WCEV that her daughter talks to her family every day, she even has a 400-day Snapchat streak with Castle's sister. She says Resendiz would never leave on her own without permission or miss work. 'My kid is missing, and she wouldn't just unauthorized, leave without permission. Angie's too scared to miss work; she wouldn't do that.' The 21-year-old's Navy base is the headquarters and home port of the U.S. Navy's Fleet Forces Command. Her barracks were located at Miller Hall. Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert on June 3 for Resendiz. The notice says she was seen at 10am in Miller Hall the day she vanished. In their statement, police said her disappearance 'poses a credible threat' to her health and safety. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) confirmed to Daily Mail that Resendiz 'has not been seen or been in contact with family or friends since May 29.' NCIS also fears the young woman is in danger. Resendiz grew up in Texas, where her mother still lives, and works as a culinary specialist for the Navy. Castle told local news outlets that her daughter is extremely kind and loving. Police have described her as a 5-foot-tall Hispanic woman with brown eyes and black hair. Officials say she weighs about 110 pounds. She goes by the name Angie. According to the New York Post, her mother said it felt almost as if her daughter just stopped existing. 'She's spent no money, made no calls. She just stopped.' As the NCIS continues to investigate the case, they are looking for any and all information about her whereabouts. They're asking those with tips to call their tip line or submit via the NCIS website. Daily Mail reached out to Castle for comment.

Dollar General's self checkout gamble could spell the end of the machines for good
It may be the end of self-checkouts as we know it after Dollar General's tech gamble paid off. The retailer removed self-checkouts from 12,000 stores nationwide in 2024 - leaving them in only a handful of locations. The company said at the time that it made the move in order to cut rising 'shrink', the retail term for theft. The value store had seen shoplifting soar since installing the tech. Now it seems removing the machines is helping stop theft. The company reported that lower shrink and higher inventory markup were major factors in boosting its income by 8 percent to $392 million in the first quarter of this year, Retail Dive reported. Chief Financial Officer Kelly Dilts said improvement in shrink rates will be a tailwind throughout the year and that 'should be the gift that just keeps on giving.' 'The removal of self-checkout is sensible at Dollar General. The stores are pretty small and don't really need self-checkout,' Neil Saunders, retail expert at GlobalDatatold Other chains may follow in its footsteps, he added, but he does not think it is likely they will disappear entirely from all stores. 'I think some chains will remove self checkout, but we won't see the concept disappear entirely. It still has advantages,' Saunders said. Retailers like Walmart, Costco, and Target have already begun removing self-checkout, mainly to curb theft and revamp stores. In the first quarter of this year Dollar General has opened 156 stores and remodeled 688 locations as part of its Project Elevate, and revamped 599 through so-called Project Renovate. The company continues to operate over 20,000 stores in the US and Mexico, and it finished off this year's first quarter with $10.4 billion in net sales, a 5.3 percent increase from this time last year. 'As we think about gross margin, we are just really pleased with where shrink came in,' chief financial officer Dilts said. CEO Todd J Vasos also praised improvements in layout and merchandising. 'Our store standards are much, much better than they've been in quite a long time, and every single quarter that goes by continues to get better and better,' he said on Tuesday. Walmart also experienced sales increases in its recent quarters, having removed self-checkouts from all Sam's Club stores in favor of AI technology. While Target has removed self-checkout in some locations, a spokesperson told the New York Post that it will not be gone for good. Despite the apparent success of the removal of self-checkout machines, it has not been completely smooth sailing for Dollar General in recent months. Locations were shuttered last year, and Vasos claimed its 49 percent profit drop in last year's fourth quarter was partially due to consumers pulling back on spending. 'Many of our customers report they only have enough money for basic essentials, with some noting that they have had to sacrifice even on the necessities,' Vasos said as the retailer announced October to December earnings.

Diddy trial latest: Anonymous ex-girlfriend of Sean Combs giving evidence - after judge threatens to throw rapper out of court
19:23:35 Third alleged victim 'Jane' begins her testimony The government calls "Jane" to the stand. Jane, who is giving evidence under a pseudonym, is a former girlfriend of Sean "Diddy" Combs. After Cassie Ventura and "Mia", a former personal assistant to the hip-hop mogul, she is the third alleged victim to give evidence during this trial. Jane was allegedly engaged in commercial sex acts "as a result of force, fraud or coercion" by Combs. "The defendant used lies, drugs, threats, and violence to force and coerce, first, Cassie, and later Jane, to have sex with him in front of male escorts," prosecutors said in their opening statement at the beginning of the trial. Judge Arun Subramanian tells the court her real name will not be mentioned in court. Evidence monitors have been switched off in overflow rooms. 19:18:03 Investigative analyst answers questions on Cassie's mobile phones Enrique Santos tells the court he is an investigative analyst for the US attorney's office for the Southern District of New York. His duties include forensic examination of mobile phones, tablets and other devices with GPS technology, the jury is told. Santos says he has carried out close to 3,000 mobile phone "extractions", which means preserving and analysing electronic data, during his career, and tells the court about the methods and tools he uses for his work. He says he was asked to extract three iPhones for this case and later found out they belonged to Cassie Ventura. They were generally in good shape, he says. Santos says investigators recovered several deleted records from the devices. After a few questions from both the prosecution and the defence, he finishes his evidence. 18:57:20 Court back in session Jurors are now coming back into the courtroom in Manhattan, New York, following the lunch break. The government calls investigative analyst Enrique Santos as the next witness. 18:32:13 Judge threatens to remove Diddy from court for nodding at jurors Before proceedings get under way again, we have an update from court during the break. Judge Arun Subramanian has threatened to remove Sean "Diddy" Combs from the courtroom, telling lawyers he has been "clear" there should be no facial expressions to the jury. During one line of questioning today, the rapper was "nodding" and looking at jurors, the judge said. "That is absolutely unacceptable." Defence lawyer Marc Agnifilo tells the judge this will not happen again. "If it happens again, I will give an instruction to the jury or it could result in the exclusion of your client from the courtroom," the judge said. Court artist Jane Rosenberg, who has been watching Combs in court for the past months, told Sky News's US partner NBC News that he has been making facial expressions at jurors since the start of the trial. Combs has been attempting to interact with various members of the jury, both affirmatively and negatively depending on the testimony, she said. Several NBC reporters and producers have witnessed the same. 17:57:50 Court breaks for lunch Bryana Bongolan's evidence has finished and Judge Arun Subramanian has dismissed the jury for lunch. Proceedings continue at 1.30pm New York time - so 6.30pm here in the UK. We'll be back then with live updates from court. 17:50:56 Witness says she was 'terrified' and will 'never forget' allegedly being held over balcony Madison Smyser asks redirect questions for the prosecution after Bryana Bongolan's cross-examination by the defence. She asks Bongolan if she has any doubt that Sean "Diddy" Combs held her over the balcony. "I have no doubt," she replies. She tells the court she is not receiving any money for appearing in court, but is giving evidence "to seek justice". "Did you remember every single detail?" Smyster asks. "No," Bongolan replies. Smyser: "Are there things you will never forget?" Bongolan: "Absolutely, I will never forget him holding me on that balcony." Smyser: "How did you feel?" Bongolan: "Terrified." 17:45:56 'One person cannot be in California and New York at the same time' The court hears about events in New York that Sean "Diddy" Combs attended around 26 September 2016, and bills from the Trump International Hotel on that date. This is also when the balcony-dangling incident at Cassie's apartment in Los Angeles is alleged to have happened. Defence lawyer Nicole Westmoreland says it can't be true that Combs injured Bryana Bongolan on that date as "one person cannot be in California and New York at the same time". Bongolan says she can't remember about the date. During her earlier testimony, the court heard of a photo of a bruise on her leg that she said was taken a few hours after the incident. Metadata from this photo shows it was taken on 26 September 2016, the court hears. Asked if she has lied to the jury, Bongolan says she "can't agree". 17:25:32 'I don't want any problems,' witness says she told Diddy The court now hears Bryana Bongolan returned to Cassie Ventura's LA apartment within a fortnight of Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly dangling her over the edge of a balcony on the 17th floor. Ventura invited Bongolan to stay over for a night of drinking, smoking and cooking, text messages showed. Asked if she returned to the same place less than two weeks after Combs "caused you significant injuries and terror", she says she did. Bongolan says she was "trying to be cool" with Combs and that she had told him, "I don't want any problems". 17:14:59 Witness went to Diddy concert after alleged balcony incident Returning to the alleged balcony dangling incident, defence attorney Nicole Westmoreland asks witness Bryana Bongolan if she was screaming. "Yes, I was screaming," she replies. Asked if anyone else called the police, she says she has no idea. As the defence has done with other witnesses, Westmoreland points out that Bongolan kept socialising with Sean "Diddy" Combs even after incidents of alleged violence. Bongolan admits she shared cannabis with Combs on an occasion following the alleged balcony incident, but says she was trying to maintain some distance. She confirms she later went to one of his concerts, in October 2016, and to a private party the day after. Asked if she was wearing a neck brace, she said she needed after the balcony incident, Bongolan replies: "I probably should have."
