Calumet City man sentenced to nearly 6 years for 2023 armed robbery of mail carrier in Harvey, Illinois
A United States District Court judge in Chicago sentenced a man to nearly six years in federal prison for assaulting and robbing a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier in Harvey, Illinois, in 2023.
Malik Washington, 26, of Calument City, pleaded guilty earlier this year to a federal robbery charge.
According to the United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Illinois, Washington approached the carrier on Oct. 23, 2023, and asked them for rubber bands. He then attempted to grab a box from the carrier's bag, but the carrier pulled away.
The office said Washington pulled out a semi-automatic handgun from his sweatshirt and pointed it at the carrier's stomach and demanded their postal key, to which they complied. He then ran from the area.
Authorities arrested Washington four days later and recovered the stolen key.
Washington was sentenced on Tuesday to years and 10 months in federal prison.

Washington Post editor on leave after DOJ charges him with possessing child pornography
An award-winning editor from The Washington Post has been placed on leave after the Justice Department charged him with child pornography possession. The DOJ announced that 48-year-old Thomas LeGro, The Post's deputy director of video, appeared in court Friday after being arrested Thursday as his home was searched by authorities. "During the execution of the search warrant agents observed what appeared to be fractured pieces of a hard drive in the hallway outside the room where LeGro's work laptop was found," the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington D.C. said in a press release. According to the filing, "several devices" were seized from LeGro's home, including a laptop computer that "contained 11 videos depicting child pornography." The filing also linked LeGro to a prior FBI investigation from 2006 of E-Gold, a digital currency platform used by child pornography websites, alleging LeGro was an E-Gold user. The charges were announced by interim U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Caroline Burrell and Janani Iyengar. A spokesperson for The Post told Fox News Digital, "The Washington Post understands the severity of these allegations, and the employee has been placed on leave" and declined to comment further. LeGro began working for the Post in 2000 and left in 2006 for a stint at "PBS NewsHour" before returning to the Post in 2013, according to his LinkedIn page. Notably, LeGro was among the Washington Post journalists who earned the paper a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for its investigative reporting of failed Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, several of whom said they were minors at the time. Moore denied the allegations mentioned in The Post's reporting.

Why Did Diddy's Defense Attorney Discuss 'Handsome' Michael B. Jordan During Closing Arguments?
Diddy's attorney told the jury that Cassie was "a beautiful, sexy person" — and was not sexually victimized by Diddy He brought up the relationship between Cassie and Michael B Jordan He further said Ventura has "sexual confidence," seemingly in attempt to undermine prosecution's claims that she had been coerced into sexual activities with other menSean 'Diddy' Combs' defense attorney attempted to convince the jury that his former girlfriend — and the prosecution's star witness, Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura — was not a victim, even referencing actor Michael B. Jordan in his closing arguments. Combs' attorney Marc Agnifilo was animated, often walking back and forth in the courtroom, as he rested his case before a Manhattan jury on Friday, June 27. He pushed back against the prosecution's claims that Ventura and another of Combs' former girlfriends, who testified under the pseudonym 'Jane,' were sex trafficked. He tried to convince the jury that both Ventura and Jane willingly participated in the swinger-style lifestyle, and were not victims of coercion. "God bless her. She's a beautiful, sexy person," Agnifilo said about Ventura. When Ventura wasn't dating Combs, "she was with Michael B. Jordan, the most handsome man in the world," Agnifilo said, further claiming Ventura has "sexual confidence." "She is not clutching her pearls," he added. Combs' high-profile trial, where a jury must decide if he is guilty of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, is nearing its end after weeks of testimony from his personal and professional associates. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If you are experiencing domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, or go to All calls are toll-free and confidential.
