Value of fish landed in Oman reaches OMR159,726
Muscat: The total value of fish landed from various fishing activities (artisanal, coastal, and commercial) in the Sultanate of Oman reached approximately OMR159,726 by the end of March 2025, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded OMR147,852.
According to preliminary statistical data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, Oman's fisheries sector has shown notable growth, with the total quantity of landed fish rising to 238,131 tonnes by the end of March 2025, compared to 223,531 tonnes during the same period in the previous year—a 6.5% increase. This reflects positive development in Oman's fish production.
Despite a slight decline, artisanal fishing remains the backbone of the sector, with landings reaching 189,770 tonnes by the end of March 2025—a 1.7% decrease from 193,054 tonnes in March 2024.
Al Wusta Governorate recorded the highest artisanal fish landing volume at 78,215 tonnes, followed by South A'Sharqiyah Governorate with 54,348 tonnes and Dhofar Governorate with 24,487 tonnes.
North and South Al Batinah Governorates recorded 15,927 tonnes, while Musandam Governorate reached 8,755 tonnes, and Muscat Governorate recorded 8,038 tonnes.
Commercial fishing saw a significant surge, with landings rising to 43,677 tonnes by the end of March 2025, compared to 27,240 tonnes during the same period last year—a remarkable 60.3% growth. Coastal fishing also posted strong growth at 44.7%, reaching 4,684 tonnes compared to 3,237 tonnes in March 2024.
Small pelagic fish topped the list of the most landed species in artisanal fishing, with 95,275 tonnes, followed by large pelagic fish at 60,465 tonnes and demersal fish at 27,522 tonnes. Shark species accounted for 1,426 tonnes, while crustaceans and mollusks reached around 930 tonnes, and other unclassified fish recorded approximately 4,152 tonnes.

Pact to advance urban air mobility in Oman
MUSCAT, JUNE 6 AeroVecto, an Oman-based startup specialising in sustainable air mobility solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Romanian-based LYNEports, a digital planning platform for advanced air mobility infrastructure, to support the rollout of hybrid electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aviation services in Oman and the wider GCC region. The partnership is set to take advanced air mobility services, currently in its nascency in Oman, to the next level. A number of Omani startups, in partnership with key players in the global international, are gearing up to introduce uncrewed air mobility services for, among other fields, cargo deliveries, passenger transportation, ambulance services, medical deliveries and even disaster relief. AeroVecto is credited with developing Shuttle, a hybrid eVTOL aircraft purposely built for mass public transportation. According to the company, the high-capacity aircraft will enhance current ground-based public transport by enabling convenient point-to-point travel. With a focus on passenger volume and comfort, Shuttle aims to revolutionise urban and intercity mobility, introducing a new era of clean, efficient and scalable air transport. Through the partnership, LYNEports will assist in planning and simulating AeroVecto's Shuttle network, ensuring each site meets aviation-grade safety standards, operational viability and regulatory requirements. Furthermore, by leveraging LYNEports' AI-driven platform, AeroVecto can evaluate ideal locations, model flight routes and visualise integrated transport systems, accelerating the adoption of advanced air mobility across Oman. Additionally, with the goal of supporting workforce development linked to this emerging sector, a leading college in Muscat has announced a partnership with aircraft maker Boeing to launch the an Air Taxis and Advanced Air Mobility programme designed to provide undergraduate aviation students with opportunities for research, curriculum enrichment and participation in business challenges related to urban air mobility. Together with regulatory support from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and other stakeholder agencies, these developments underscore Oman's ambitions to become a regional leader in advanced air mobility. HH Sayyid Fahd offers Eid Al Adha prayers at Al Khor Mosque
Muscat — HH Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers today offered Eid Al Adha prayers at Al Khor Mosque in Muscat. Alongside HH Sayyid Fahd, the prayers were performed by some members of the Royal family, ministers, advisors and officials.
