Report: Oscar Piastri's new McLaren deal tops $25M annually

Miami Herald22-03-2025

After helping McLaren to a constructor's championship in 2024, Oscar Piastri was rewarded with a multi-year contract worth nearly $26 million per year, according to Racing News 365.
The new deal replaces Piastri's contract that ran through 2026 and was set to pay him over $7 million per season.
"It's a great feeling knowing that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision," Piastri said in a release. "The team had the belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we've gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible.
The 23-year-old Australia native won a pair of races in 2024 and finished fourth in the driver's standings with 292 points, while teammate Lando Norris was the runner-up with four wins and 374 points. Norris signed a long-term extension before the 2024 season.
The McLaren constructor's title ended a two-year title run for Red Bull and gave the team its first championship since 1998.
Piastri's deal comes just as F1 is set to open its 2025 season with the Australian Grand Prix on Saturday in his hometown of Melbourne.

Alabama QB Keelon Russell's twin sister dies at 18

Kierston Russell, the twin sister of Alabama freshman quarterback Keelon Russell, died on Wednesday at the age of 18, the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit announced on Thursday. "The investigation is ongoing ... and, at this time, appears to be non-criminal in nature," Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit said in a statement. "Therefore, at this time, no other information will be released. We ask that the media respect the privacy of the family during this time." The family gave police officials permission to confirm Russell's death. The siblings went through graduation ceremonies last month at Duncanville (Texas) High School. They were to attend the University of Alabama together. Keelon Russell, who enrolled early and participated in spring practice, reposted a message on his Instagram account which read: "My deepest condolences are with you guys dearly. Losing a twin sister and daughter is a pain no one could ever imagine." Kierston Russell was part of Duncanville's 2024 state-championship-winning girls basketball team. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 192 pounds, Keelon Russell was listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings, the No. 2 player and quarterback in the country and No. 1 player in Texas for the Class of 2025. He initially committed to SMU in his native Texas before switching to Alabama and new head coach Kalen DeBoer on June 4, 2024. Duncanville won state 6A Division 1 UIL championships in 2022 and 2023. Steelers' Super Bowl odds improve with Aaron Rodgers coming

The Pittsburgh Steelers' futures were adjusted by many sportsbooks with Thursday's news that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has agreed to a one-year contract. While speculation has been rampant throughout the offseason that the four-time league MVP would ultimately play a 21st NFL season with the Steelers, there was still a chance Rodgers would sign elsewhere or retire. Circa Sports told Field Level Media that Pittsburgh's Super Bowl odds at the book shortened from +600 to +500 following Thursday's news, while the Steelers' odds of winning the AFC shifted from +2600 to +1800. At DraftKings, the Steelers are now being offered at +4000 to win the Super Bowl, +2000 to win the AFC and +550 to win the AFC North. Their over/under win total is 8.5 games Rodgers, 41, reportedly plans to fly to Pittsburgh to sign the contract and intends to participate in the Steelers' mandatory minicamp next week. The Steelers were the NFL team in greatest need of a quarterback and open the 2025 season against Rodgers' former team at the New York Jets on Sept. 7. Rodgers will likely start opposite Pittsburgh's Week 1 starter last season, Justin Fields, who joined the Jets in free agency. Before Rodgers' long-expected agreement, Mason Rudolph was the presumed starter for the Steelers. Rudolph returned to the Steelers after one season with the Tennessee Titans. Pittsburgh moved on from Russell Wilson, who replaced Fields seven games into the 2024 regular season, who is also projected to start in New York as a member of the Giants. Rodgers comes to Pittsburgh after two disappointing seasons with the Jets. He suffered a season-ending torn Achilles on the fourth play of the 2023 season, his first with Gang Green; the Jets then went 5-12 behind Rodgers in 2024, causing the franchise to clean house. The 10-time Pro Bowler who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2011 had also been linked to Green Bay's division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, who instead will move forward with J.J. McCarthy under center. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

McLaren Drops 750S Special Edition, Which Honors Le Mans Legend

McLaren Drops 750S Special Edition, Which Honors Le Mans Legend originally appeared on Autoblog. In 1995, McLaren ran, completed, and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. The manufacturer's race-ready McLaren F1 GTRs, which weren't all that different from the road-going version, filled out four of the top five places. The ranks included, of course, the No. 59 car, which took first place. Now, the automaker is honoring the iconic race-winning car by bringing a special edition 750S to customers. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As the No. 59 car wore grey to its winning race, it seems fitting that the McLaren 750S Le Mans is also offered in matching Le Mans Grey paint. Don't worry — iconic McLaren Orange is also available, although not unique to the special edition. A roof scoop comes standard, as does McLaren's new HDK (High Downforce Kit), the latter of which bundles a larger front splitter, rear spoiler, and under-wing louvres all in carbon fiber. Five-spoke LM wheels mirror what the F1 raced with and are unique to the model. Gold calipers, titanium exhaust finishers, special center caps, and Le Mans badging inside and outside the car round out a very special package dedicated to an extremely special car. McLaren's only making fifty of 'em, so better get in line. Under the hood (well, rear clamshell), the McLaren 750S Le Mans remains decidedly 'average.' At least, if you could possibly call something with such otherworldly performance average. A 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 develops 740 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, allowing the McLaren 750S Le Mans to achieve speeds up to 206 mph. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic sends power to the rear wheels, and carbon ceramic brakes handle stopping duties; six-piston calipers in the front, four-piston in the rear. Getting from a standstill to 62 mph takes under 2.8 seconds, and stopping from the same takes just 98 feet. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article While this special McLaren 750S is primarily honoring the No. 59 car and its 1995 Le Mans win, there are a few other details that shouldn't be overlooked. As an optional extra, McLaren will include a plaque commemorating the brand's Triple Crown wins: 24 Hours of Le Mans, Indianapolis 500, and Monaco Grand Prix. McLaren is one of only three automakers with any claim of Triple Crown success. The other two are Ford and Mercedes, but only McLaren has won all three races as a team/chassis manufacturer. McLaren also says the 750S Le Mans commemorates the running of its GT3 EVO cars this year and the manufacturer's anticipated return to the LMH (Hypercar) class in 2027. I'm not buying one, and you probably aren't either, but it's hard to complain about a special edition that honors such a cool point in history for McLaren. I'm probably a little biased since the McLaren F1 is perhaps the only car regularly selling for millions of dollars that I actually want to drive. The development cycle, engine work (handled by BMW), and end result of the McLaren F1 make it one of the most historically interesting vehicles ever. Even better, apart from the FINA and Gulf-liveried longtail, No. 59 is one of the most iconic. I've digressed. We expect the new McLaren 750S Le Mans to drive as incredibly as the standard car; it will just look a little bit cooler and likely leave your wallet considerably lighter.
