PF&R investigating ‘suspicious' Powellhurst-Gilbert apartment fire
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Portland Fire & Rescue is investigating after a 'suspicious' fire at an apartment building in the Powellhurst-Gilber Neighborhood early Sunday morning. Just before 6 a.m., PF&R responded to a reported residential fire near the intersection of Southeast 118th and Holgate, where the Bureau of Emergency Communication indicated that fire and smoke was seen from a recently vacated apartment. On the scene, crews saw the blaze on the first and second level of an apartment with smoke pushing through the garage and on the eave line. Sheriff wants to charge for rescues of 'negligent, reckless' hikers in Skamania County Crews were able to quickly suppress the fire and said all occupants made it out of the building. According to PF&R, there were no reported injuries and neighboring apartment units were unaffected. Officials said there were reports of a suspicious person on the property who was quickly arrested by police and has since been released from police custody. Body pulled onto swimming dock at Cathedral Park
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A body that appeared to have been in the Willamette River for some time was recovered Saturday afternoon by a person at Cathedral Park, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The body was pulled onto the swimming dock around 1:45 p.m. A death investigation is underway along with trying to determine who the person was. No further information is available. Charges announced for teen accused of planning mass shooting at Washington mall
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The charges faced by a were released by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office on Friday. The Columbia County teen, whose name remains unreleased to the public, faces four felony charges of second-degree attempted murder, attempted first-degree assault, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The FBI received a tip about the plan on May 19 and identified the teen the following day. He was put under surveillance on May 20 and arrested on May 22. According to authorities, the suspect had been making 'very detailed plans' since early 2025 which included a route to the mall, a map the shooter would follow, a planned wardrobe with weapons, and annotated schematics for the improvised bomb.
