Israeli drones carry out new strikes in southern Lebanon

On Thursday, an Israeli drone strike hit a motorcycle injuring one person in the southern Lebanese town of Beit Lif.
Earlier, a second drone airstrike killed one targeting a Bobcat bulldozer at the Baraachit–Shaqra junction, in southern Lebanon.
On June 24, three people were killed in an Israeli raid on a vehicle in Kfar Dajjal, Nabatieh district.
Lebanese officials have stated that Israel has committed more than 3,000 ceasefire violations since the agreement came into force, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries.

Iraq busts 60+ sex exploitation rings, arrests dozens of sorcerers
Shafaq News – Baghdad Over 60 sex trafficking networks were dismantled and 82 individuals accused of sorcery and fortune-telling were arrested during the first half of 2025, the Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Thursday. According to Colonel Abbas al-Bahadli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency uncovered and dismantled 62 sex exploitation networks, along with 9 human organ trafficking rings, 15 forced labor groups, 4 child-selling operations, and 6 networks involved in organized begging. Al-Bahadli also confirmed the arrest of 82 individuals accused of practicing sorcery and witchcraft, which remain criminal offenses in Iraq. Iraq's Interior Ministry had issued a directive in 2017 to close offices linked to witchcraft and spiritual fraud, many of which had spread across Baghdad and other provinces. Despite this, such practices have persisted, often fueled by growing social distress, economic hardship, and public disillusionment. Observers note that women are disproportionately drawn to sorcery and fortune-telling in Iraq, driven by societal pressures, insecurity, and limited access to formal psychological or social support.

Journalists, activists, and teachers arrested in Al-Sulaymaniyah over salary protests
Shafaq News – Al-Sulaymaniyah Security forces in Al-Sulaymaniyah launched a wave of arrests over the past two days, detaining journalists, activists, teachers, and public employees amid calls to protest delayed salary payments. The arrests, which targeted individuals either participating in or expressing support for planned demonstrations, have sparked widespread condemnation and solidarity protests across the region. According to Shafaq News correspondent, at least ten teachers, including two women, were arrested during earlier protests demanding their financial entitlements. The detentions have been widely criticized as a violation of free expression and an affront to the dignity of the educational community. Rahman Gharib, coordinator of the Metro Center for Journalistic Rights and Advocacy, condemned the arrests in a statement to Shafaq News Agency, describing them as a blatant attack on civil liberties. 'Security forces detained several activists, politicians, and journalists who were either involved in or supportive of protests calling for the right to a decent livelihood,' Gharib said. He added, 'We strongly condemn this campaign and demand the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees. The right to protest is guaranteed by the constitution and the country's applicable laws.' Gharib also warned that the involvement of security services in suppressing civil activities constitutes a serious breach of human rights and freedom of expression. In response to the arrests, dozens of Kurdish-language teachers in Kirkuk staged a protest outside the Directorate of Education on Thursday. Demonstrators demanded the release of their detained colleagues in Al-Sulaymaniyah and called for the immediate disbursement of salaries that have been delayed for more than two months. The Journalists Syndicate in Al-Sulaymaniyah also issued a statement confirming the release of several journalists who had been detained earlier in the day while covering the unfolding events. The syndicate clarified that the journalists were freed following the conclusion of investigative procedures and that no formal charges were brought against them. The Al-Sulaymaniyah branch of the syndicate reiterated its commitment to defending press freedoms and urged security forces to respect the constitutional right to independent journalism and ensure a safe working environment for media professionals.

Pentagon: Fordow attack took 15 years to prepare
Shafaq News – Washington On Thursday, US military leaders disclosed new details about the recent strikes on Iran, confirming that American and Qatari missile defenses intercepted incoming Iranian projectiles aimed at Al-Udeid Air Base. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine called the incident the largest Patriot missile engagement in the history of US military. Caine noted that the US strike on Iran, codenamed Midnight Hammer, was the result of 15 years of research, development, and testing. The operation focused on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility, which was hit with six GBU-57 bunker-busting bombs, each weighing 30,000 pounds and deliverable only by B-2 stealth bombers. The intelligence community is currently assessing the results of the operation, which US officials say was intended to delay Iran's nuclear program, Caine pointed out, adding that he had not faced any pressure to alter the official findings related to the strike's outcome.
