The British and Irish Lions ramp up their preparations this week as they head to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp, but nearly half of Andy Farrell's squad are still preoccupied with the end of the club season.
While Jac Morgan, Tomos Williams and a number of other Lions will be hitting tackle bags in Quinta do Lago, 16 of the 38-man squad will spend this week preparing for the finals of the BKT United Rugby Championship and Gallagher Premiership.

There's a dozen still with Leinster. Ronan Kelleher, Dan Sheehan, Andrew Porter, Tadhg Furlong, Joe McCarthy, James Ryan, Jack Conan, Josh van der Flier, Jamison Gibson-Park, Garry Ringrose, Hugo Keenan and James Lowe will all join up with the Lions next week, although the likes of Furlong, van der Flier, Ringrose and Keenan are all carrying knocks.

Bath duo Will Stuart and Finn Russell will be going up against Leicester's Ollie Chessum in the Gallagher Premiership final.
And then there's also Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn, set to join the tour late after Toulouse's Top 14 title bid - but also injured.
Ahead of flying to Portugal on Tuesday, the Lions have already lost one player to injury.

Scotland and Glasgow prop Zander Fagerson has been ruled out of a second tour, with Ireland tighthead Finlay Bealham called up in his place amid growing concern over the position.
Furlong hasn't played since the start of May in Leinster's Champions Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton, with the prop - who has started the last six Lions Tests - struggling with a calf injury.
England prop Stuart will now be the strong favourite to start against the Wallabies, while his compatriot Asher Opoku-Fordjour travelling to Portugal as cover. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack to get exclusive news stories and insight from behind the scenes in Welsh rugby.

The same goes for England hooker Jamie George, who narrowly missed out on the squad but will cover Ireland duo Sheehan and Kelleher in Portugal.
In terms of the team to face Argentina in Dublin on June 20, Farrell's first selection could well be decided by availability and injuries.
Unless he wants a look at Marcus Smith in the position, Elliot Daly seems the likely bet at full-back. England's Tommy Freeman should start on one wing, but the other is dependent on injuries.

Scotland's Duhan van der Merwe has been out injured since March, while Ireland's Mack Hansen has been sidelined since April. The latter was expected back around the middle of June, while van der Merwe was said to be ready for selection had Edinburgh reached the URC semi-final.
Given the injuries, don't rule out James Lowe being involved six days after the URC final against the Bulls.
In midfield, Farrell has Scotland duo Sione Tuipulotu and Huw Jones at his disposal, as well as Bundee Aki. Pairing Tuipulotu and Aki together could be tempting, although sticking with an established partnership makes sense in the first game of the tour.

The same goes for the half-backs. With no Gibson-Park or Russell - seen as the likely first-choices at scrum-half and fly-half - leaning on Northampton and England duo Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith seems the obvious choice.
Wales' Tomos Williams, having been crowned Premiership player of the season, will be pushing for a start - although an off-the-bench partnership with Marcus Smith could make for exciting viewing.
In the pack, Ellis Genge and Pierre Schoeman are both available in Portugal so should share the load against Argentina.

With Luke Cowan-Dickie the only hooker from the original squad at this week's training camp, he should start. The question is whether Farrell uses George on the bench or brings back one of the Leinster hookers to occupy that role.
On the tighthead, new call-up Bealham should start. Again, it's whether Farrell gives Opoku-Fordjour a bench spot or welcomes back Stuart following Bath's final.
You'd expect previous tourists Maro Itoje and Tadhg Beirne to start, especially as the former is the tour captain. Scotland lock Scott Cummings means there's little need to rush back Leinster second-rows McCarthy or Ryan.

In the back-row, Conan and van der Flier's involvement with Leinster means all of Jac Morgan, Tom Curry, Ben Earl and Henry Pollock should get minutes against Argentina.
Wales captain Morgan should start, with it likely a toss-up between Earl and Pollock for the No. 8 jersey.
Possible Lions team v Argentina: Elliot Daly; Tommy Freeman, Huw Jones, Sione Tuipulotu, Duhan van der Merwe; Fin Smith, Alex Mitchell; Ellis Genge, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Finlay Bealham, Maro Itoje (c), Tadhg Beirne, Jac Morgan, Tom Curry, Ben Earl.

Wales rugby team left shattered and drenched as coaches make brutal change to training

Wales rugby team left shattered and drenched as coaches make brutal change to training Wales are preparing for the summer tour of Japan where the heat and humidity will be unlike Wales player Rhodri Williams looks completely exhausted (Image: WRU ) Wales' rugby players were left exhausted and soaked in sweat after coaches went to extreme measures to prepare them for what lies ahead in Japan this summer. The Welsh team face temperatures that will feel close to 40°C next month, with humidity levels in Japan expected to be at 85% during the two-Test tour, which begins on July 5 at Mikuni World Stadium in Kitakyushu. ‌ Ahead of the trip, Matt Sherratt's squad are being put through gruelling training sessions at their Vale Hotel training base, where the heating in the gym has been turned on to get temperatures up to more than 38°C. ‌ A video released by the WRU shows the players training on exercise and assault bikes, as well as skiing and rowing machines, in a conditioning session that left many out on their feet and literally drenched in their own sweat as they were taken aback by the heat in which they were forced to train. Content cannot be displayed without consent This is not the first time a Welsh team has gone to extreme lengths to try and replicate the severe conditions in a country like Japan. Article continues below Ahead of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Warren Gatland had staff cover the rugby balls used in training with baby oil to get the players used to the sweaty and slippery conditions. The tour will be a new experience for many of the young players in the squad, although the likes of Elliot Dee, Aaron Wainwright and Josh Adams were part of that 2019 squad. Former Wales internationals Jamie Roberts and Lou Reed recently tried to explain how difficult it was to play rugby in the suffocating humidity of Japan, with Reed describing the heat being like that which hits you when opening an oven door. ‌ He added: "My heart rate was the highest it's ever been in a Welsh jersey. I think they thought I was having a stroke.' The WRU will be hoping the tour to Japan can be a real turning point in the trajectory of the national side, who have now lost 17 Test matches in a row following another dismal Six Nations campaign earlier this year that resulted in the departure of Warren Gatland. The search for a new permanent head coach is ongoing, with Sherratt drafted in for the trip to Japan after receiving positive feedback from players during his interim spell earlier this year following Gatland's exit. Article continues below Sherratt is desperate to leave the new head coach in a stronger position heading into the autumn internationals by finally ending the losing run that has weighed heavily on the players for over a year. 'I just think it's a really good opportunity to lay a foundation," he said. "I think the big picture needs to be looked at by someone who's coming in on a long-term contract, this will be about laying a foundation, trying to get to Japan and win a Test match and then the guy who comes in next can build on the future.'

Cymru Premier League clubs have strengthened their ranks

Lee Fowler led the Silkmen to a ninth-placed finish in the top flight last time out and he has added the services of Cameron Ferguson and former Aberystwyth Town captain Jack Thorn (pictured above) to his squad. Ferguson, the son of ex-Everton legend Duncan, started his career at the Everton Academy before signing for Tranmere Rovers as part of their scholarship programme. Thorn's father, Andy, was also an ex-professional player having made more than 100 appearances for both Wimbledon and Crystal Palace. Flintshire rivals, Connah's Quay Nomads, have added another new signing to their ranks. Twenty-year-old midfielder Ben Kershaw has arrived from Hyde United in the Northern Premier League. Boss John Disney told the club website: 'I am delighted to announce Ben has signed for us, a player I have kept tabs on whilst he has been playing at Stoke for two years but also someone that has developed in men's football the last 12 months with Hyde. 'Ben brings a freshness and very good technical ability to our midfield and one that will flourish in the Welsh premier league to kick us back into the top half of the league.'

Celtic exit confirmed as Postecoglou signing seals transfer

The frontman joined the Parkhead side in 2021. Dawson went on to make one senior appearance in green and white. His move to Scunthorpe, whom he initially joined Celtic from four years ago, was confirmed on Monday afternoon: "I'm buzzing to be back, this is my home and it's where I grew up, so to finally be back is just an amazing feeling," said Dawson [ Read more: "I can only say good things about my time at Celtic. I feel like I've come back a better player, bigger and stronger so I'm just looking forward to hitting the ground running." Dawson scored 20 goals in 21 Lowland League appearances for Celtic's B side. Brought to the club by Ange Postecoglou, his time in Glasgow was ultimately ravaged by a multitude of injuries. He now moves back to Scunthorpe, who will play their football in the National League next season, England's fifth tier. It comes as young Fulham striker Callum Osmand has reportedly been 'booked' for a medical at Celtic. The Welsh forward was in good goalscoring form last season for the London side in the PL2, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further four in 17 appearances. With his contract set to expire, despite Fulham offering him a new deal, Celtic would only need to pay a training compensation fee to the Premier League club, akin to their 2016 signing of Moussa Dembele from the same club. Seen as a first-team player rather than a B-team prospect, Osmand could provide cover for the likes of Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda, starting this summer.
