Mirror Daily Digest: Top stories from dangerous flight to free school meals
In this Thursday's Mirror Daily Digest, we've pulled together the biggest stories of the day from Romeo Beckham's split from his girlfriend, to even more Winter Fuel Payments updates Welcome to the Mirror's Daily Digest, where we pull together all the best stories of the day from our News, Showbiz, Sport teams and more. This Thursday, we're taking a look at the eligibility of free school meals getting extended, to the search for missing Brit Jordan Johnson-Doyle. Ryanair: Multiple people injured on 'dangerous flight' after plane hits 'supercell' Early this morning, our World News team shared reports of a Ryanair pilot being forced into an emergency landing due to dangerous weather. Nine people - including a two-year-old child and a crew member - were injured last night after a Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing. The plane flew into a severe thunderstorm leaving passengers terrified. The pilot announced he was aborting the flight and immediately landing at the nearest airport. One passenger described the scenes as 'chaotic and dangerous'. The Ryanair jet had 185 people on board when it was hit by extreme turbulence over southern Germany. It was flying from the German capital Berlin to the Italian city Milan when the pilot made emergency landing at Memmingen Airport in Bavaria. A spokesman for the German authorities said that nine people were injured, including one crew member and a two-year-old child. Our World News team has been following the case of missing Brit Jordan Johnson-Doyle since the end of last month, and today reported that his body had been found in a lift shaft in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, vanished on May 27 after he was last seen at a bar in a suburb of the country's capital. His disappearance sparked a massive search in a bid to find him but, tragically, he has now been found dead in a lift shaft at the ground floor of a construction site. A post-mortem found the cause of death was a "chest injury sustained from a fall from height," according to police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa. He added: "No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report." Free school meal change as thousands to save up to £500 - check what it means for your area Our Politics team, who have long been championing free school meals for children, have reported that more than half a million children will become eligible for free school meals from next year after an expansion of eligibility rules. Keir Starmer has unveiled plans to extend the lifeline benefit to all kids in families who get Universal Credit (UC) in England, in a move that could save parents up to £500 a year. Currently, all children in England can get free school meals until the end of Year 2 but after that they only qualify if their family earns less than £7,400 a year after benefits. In a huge expansion, from September 2026, all children in UC households will be able to get a free lunch. A large proportion of kids on UC already receive free school meals as their household's income falls below the £7,400 threshold point. But some 500,000 more kids will now be eligible, according to the Government's estimates. Romeo Beckham splits from Kim Turnbull after relationship dragged into family drama Last night, our Showbiz team reported that Romeo Beckham has split from his partner Kim Turnbull, having had their relationshup dragged into the rift within the Beckham family in recent months. It's now been revealed that Romeo, 22, and Kim, 24, have separated after seven months together. It's said that their relationship "fizzled out" three weeks after his father David Beckham 's 50th birthday, which was at the start of last month. The special occasion fuelled rumours of a family feud as David's eldest son Brooklyn Beckham, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, were thought to have been absent from celebrations. Romeo's relationship with Kim was attributed as a factor in the alleged rift at one point, though more recently other parties have been blamed instead amid ongoing speculation. As part of the ongoing Winter Fuel Allowance saga, our Money team earlier shared a message from Money Supermarket guru Martin Lewis, after Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed yesterday that Winter Fuel Payments will be extended to more pensioners this winter. Speaking at an event in Rochdale, Greater Manchester yesterday, Reeves told reporters that "more people will get Winter Fuel Payment this winter", adding that further details will be announced "as soon as we possibly can". She said: "People should be in no doubt that the means test will increase and more people will get Winter Fuel Payment this winter."

Raging Scots DJ sparked pool hall brawl after someone mocked his haircut
He brushed off the comments until the unknown man mentioned his deceased father BAR CLASH RAP Raging Scots DJ sparked pool hall brawl after someone mocked his haircut Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A DJ sparked a pool hall brawl after someone made fun of his haircut. Brandon Ross, 23, struck the unknown man with a cue and punched him after raging at being on the end of 'playground banter' about his 'Prince Charming' hairstyle by the man and his friends. Ross's initial attack erupted in a greater fight which left him in hospital with injuries to his face and hand. First offender Ross pleaded guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the man at Glasgow city centre's Reardon's on August 12, 2024. The court heard that Ross was with friends while the unknown man and his acquaintances were at another pool table. Prosecutor Darren Harty stated that a 'disagreement' had taken place between both parties. He said: 'As a result, Ross struck the unknown man with a pool cue to the side of the body in the hip region. 'He thereafter punched him which collided with his face. 'A further much bigger fight then occurred as a result of that after which Ross was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.' Stephanie Grieve, defending, told the court that Ross was hit with two glasses in the melee. This resulted in a wound to his left ear and damage to tendons in his right hand. 'A disagreement took place which resulted in playground insults which included about Mr Ross' Prince Charming hair and socks he was wearing which went on for 30 minutes. 'He brushed it off until there was a comment made about his deceased father. 'He works as a DJ and has had to reduce his work from six nights a week to two nights a week.' Sheriff David Clapham denied Miss Grieve her initial request for an absolute discharge which would have seen the offence scrubbed from Ross's criminal record. The sheriff said: 'When you heard the comments, you should have left. 'Hitting someone with a pool cue is quite wrong and it is also quite wrong that you followed this up with a punch.' Ross, of the city's Mount Vernon, was fined £320.

It is believed he may have been the intermediary between drug pushers in the UK and suppliers in Thailand and was described as having a "significant role". Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, has now been jailed after he pleaded guilty to fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of cannabis. Judge Alexander Mills told him: "It is through your own actions you will no longer be known as a professional footballer. " "You will be known as a criminal. A professional footballer who threw it all away." Chelmsford Crown Court heard the drugs were brought into the UK by Emmanuel-Thomas' girlfriend Yasmin Piotrowska. She had flown business class to Stanstead Airport with Rosie Rowland to carry put the plot on September 2. Emmanuel-Thomas was linked to the discovery by numerous WhatsApp messages, voice notes and pictures. The court was told it was "apparent" he had recruited the women, who were cleared after prosecutors offered no evidence in their case. He used his influenced as a professional footballer to sway the two women - offering them £2,500 plus a free holiday to Thailand. After Piotrowska was stopped by border officials, Emmanuel-Thomas messaged Rowland to tell her to "delete everything from our chat if you can". The footballer then travelled to Stratford, East London, on September 5 and replaced his mobile. He was sacked by Scottish club Greenock Morton following his arrest last year. Emmanuel-Thomas is a former England under-17 and under-19 international. He began his career at Arsenal before playing for various clubs - including Ipswich Town, Bristol City, QPR, Livingston and Aberdeen. The striker signed a six-month contract with Greenock Morton in July. David Philips, NCA senior investigating officer, said: "Organised crime groups make significant profits by trafficking and selling perceived high-quality cannabis legally grown in the US, Canada and Thailand illegally in the UK. "Organised criminals like Emmanuel-Thomas can be very persuasive and offer payment to couriers. But the risk of getting caught is very high and it simply isn't worth it." Emmanuel-Thomas is the latest Brit to be caught smuggling drugs. The Sun revealed how Cameron Bradford, 21, is being detained in Germany for allegedly hiding cannabis in her bags on a flight from Thailand. A British OnlyFans model was also caught allegedly smuggling nearly £200,000 worth of Thai cannabis into Spain. Elsewhere, Brit Bella May Culley, 18, sparked a massive international search operation in early May after she was reported missing while holidaying in Thailand. However, it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia. 6 The footballer was arrested last September Credit: Instagram 6 NCA officers found the drugs in two suitcases Credit: Unpixs
