‘Beach of Dreams' event to come to Abergele– what to expect

Rhyl Journal09-05-2025

The Beach of Dreams initiative is making its way to the region on May 10 as part of a nationwide coastal walk dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of the natural environment.
This Saturday, Beach of Dreams will create an eye-catching display at Colwyn Bay beach through the medium of art, including its signature hand-dyed pennants that represent towns and communities across the country.
The art installation will show 700 pennants, each one symbolising a part of the coastline, including Pensarn beach.
On May 10 at 9am, Cllr John Jones will kick things off by running along the stretch of coast from Pensarn beach to Old Colwyn promenade, carrying the town's bespoke pennant, crafted by the Beach of Dreams resident artists.
Cllr Jones said: 'I'm honoured to carry the pennant for our town, and proud to represent our community and support for the inspirational Beach of Dreams initiative.'
In Old Colwyn, at 11am, Cllr Jones will join the procession of pennants as the parade makes its way along the promenade to Colwyn Bay, where the town's pennant will join the art installation.
At approximately 12pm, Mayor of Abergele, Cllr Tracey Brennan, will take a turn on the stage at the eco-zone by Porth Eirias, to share her thoughts about Pensarn beach, reflecting on what it means to the community.
Leading up to the big day, residents shared their fond memories and hopes for Pensarn Beach, and contributed to a digital photo gallery.
Schoolchildren also got involved, with Ysgol Sant Elfod, Ysgol St George, and Ysgol Glan Gele pupils enjoying a mythical tale inspired by waterways, learning about the rich ecosystem of the Pensarn shingle beach, creating their own batik pennants, and searching for and identifying the vegetation and wildlife that grow and make their homes there.
Cllr Brennan said: 'Come along to cheer on Cllr Jones and to see our bespoke pennant, inspired by the memories and photographs that were shared by our community members.
'With 700 pennants in place, the art installation is sure to be absolutely stunning, and the event will spark important conversations and spur on actions to protect our coastline for future generations.'

Liverpool star Curtis Jones laps up the sunshine on his holidays with partner Saffie Khan just days after disappointing end to the season with England

Curtis Jones has been spotted lapping up the sunshine on holiday in Italy with his partner Saffie Khan, following a disappointing end to the season with England. The midfielder has earned a well-deserved rest after a campaign in which he helped Liverpool to their 20th league title. Jones, 24, notched up 46 appearances for the Reds in all competitions in the season just gone, with 33 of them coming in the Premier League as Arne Slot 's side romped to their record-equalling triumph. Following a glorious end to the club season, Jones was called up by Thomas Tuchel to play a part in England's June internationals. The boyhood Red started in an unfamiliar role during the Three Lions' drab narrow victory over Andorra - who are ranked 173rd in the world - while also getting a brief cameo in the worrying defeat to Senegal. He hasn't taken long to get the loss off his mind, however, jetting off to Portofino with Khan to embrace the sunshine that is currently absent from the UK. Jones and partner Saffie Khan (right) could be seen chilling in a private pool in the sun The pair, who welcomed a baby girl into the world last October, could be seen relaxing by what looked to be a private pool. 23-year-old Saffie - who is signed to The Muse agency - has been dating Jones for a number of years, with the pair first appearing together on social media back in May 2021. In May of last year, the couple announced that they were expecting a baby girl with a heartwarming video montage. They then enjoyed some downtime as they awaited the arrival of their first child, with Jones not travelling to Germany for Euro 2024. The Liverpool footballer was the first to announce the happy news when their child was born, in a sweet update as he shared his daughter's name with fans. Alongside a series of adorable photos, he wrote: 'Giselle Delilah Jones. 13.10.24 You are our entire world.' In the update, shared to Instagram, Curtis cradled his baby daughter in the hospital before carrying her home in a car seat. Another photo of Saffie showed the family arriving home to a balloon arch and decorations that read: 'Welcome home baby Jones.' Jones is now the Scouser in Liverpool's team after the departure of fellow Liverpool-born star Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was today unveiled as a Real Madrid player. The midfielder was forced to deputise at right-back in April while the now Los Blancos star was out injured, and he passed his test in the Merseyside derby as Liverpool secured a mammoth three pints before sealing the title later in the month. He was so impressive that Tuchel decided to play him there instead of Alexander-Arnold on international duty last week. Although, Jones' performance was not quite as brilliant as two months earlier, with the majority of the Three Lions surprisingly struggling against Andorra.
