Over 78,000 medical services provided to pilgrims as Saudi health system reports 5 heat exhaustion cases

MAKKAH — Saudi Arabia's healthcare system has treated five cases of heat exhaustion among pilgrims since the beginning of the Hajj season until the second day of Dhul Hijjah, the Ministry of Health confirmed.
All cases were successfully managed, reflecting the Kingdom's comprehensive efforts to ensure optimal medical care under the Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program.
As of this point in the Hajj season, the Saudi health system has provided over 78,000 medical services to pilgrims.
More than 46,000 pilgrims have been received at primary healthcare centers, while emergency departments have handled 17,000 cases. Outpatient clinics have recorded over 860 visits.
In terms of hospital admissions, more than 3,000 pilgrims have been hospitalized, including over 1,600 in intensive care units.
The Ministry of Health has also performed eight open-heart surgeries and 104 cardiac catheterization procedures during the ongoing pilgrimage.
The Health Call Center 937 received more than 27,000 medical consultations, underscoring the preparedness of Saudi Arabia's healthcare infrastructure and its responsiveness in delivering reliable and immediate medical support to pilgrims.
Health authorities continue to provide services at the highest standards throughout Hajj 1446 to ensure the well-being of pilgrims and the continuity of safe, efficient medical care across all facilities.

He noted that these significant efforts have produced exemplary outcomes in crowd management, coordination, planning, and integration among various sectors, achieving the desired results and ensuring the pilgrims experience the highest levels of security and safety. Al-Bassami also emphasized that the Hajj Security Forces are at the highest level of readiness and fully capable of responding firmly and effectively to any threats to pilgrims' security or disruptions to their rituals, ensuring a safe environment for them to perform their rites. The ceremony included field exercises simulating various security scenarios, displays of security vehicles and advanced equipment, in addition to showcasing security aviation and specialized vehicles used during the Hajj season. The ceremony was attended by several princes and officials.

Palestinian Minister to Asharq Al-Awsat: Saudi Arabia Showing Extraordinary Care to Palestinian Hajj Pilgrims
Palestinian Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs Mustafa Mohammed Najm hailed on Saturday the care accorded by Saudi Arabia to Hajj pilgrims, especially ones coming from Palestine. In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, he noted the attention they receive from the moment they arrive in the Kingdom, saying that all of their needs are met. He also highlighted the preparations that have been made to ensure that pilgrims perform the Hajj smoothly and with ease. Such care reflects Saudi Arabia's pioneering role in serving the guests of the Two Holy Mosques, he went on to say. Moreover, he revealed that 6,600 Palestinians will be performing the Hajj this year; 2,508 come from Gaza and the rest from the West Bank. He added, however, that the war in Gaza has prevented would-be pilgrims from traveling from there for a second consecutive year. The Gaza pilgrims this year are actually residing in Egypt. The pilgrims were chosen through a draw to ensure fairness and transparency, explained the minister. Ninety percent of West Bank pilgrims were chosen this way, he revealed. Najm expressed his deep gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the facilitations offered to the Palestinian pilgrims and the sophisticated services at their disposal from the moment they arrive in the Kingdom and until their departure. He noted that 1,000 places are allotted in Makkah every year to relatives of Palestinian martyrs and wounded, reflecting the care shown by Saudi Arabia to Palestine and its people. No one in the world has shown the same attention to the Palestinian pilgrims as Saudi Arabia, he stressed. 'They don't have to pay a single dime.' In May, King Salman issued directives to host 1,000 Palestinian pilgrims from the families of prisoners, and those killed or wounded in the Gaza war at his own expense to perform Hajj this year. Najm wished Saudi Arabia continued security, stability, progress and prosperity under its wise leadership. Moussa Mohammed Hassan, 60, a Palestinian pilgrim from Ariha, expressed his deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its warm reception and hospitality. He told Asharq Al-Awsat that he had a smooth journey from the West Bank to head to neighboring Jordan. From there, he took a flight to Saudi Arabia. 'Upon arrival in Madinah, we received a warm welcome, which is something we were expecting from the generous Saudi people,' he added. 'The four days we stayed in Madinah were the most beautiful of my life,' he remarked. He said the pilgrims received the same warm welcome in Makkah. 'We thank Saudi Arabia's government and people.' His roommate, Mahmoud Khamis al-Mashlah echoed his remarks. He added that he traveled with his wife, who is suffering from kidney failure. He explained that he accompanies her every other day for dialysis treatment at hospital in Madinah and in Makkah. 'The care that we found is beyond description,' he said of the Saudi facilities and medical teams. 'Words will never be enough to express the attention accorded to the Hajj pilgrims,' he added.

RIYADH: A team of students at King Abdulaziz University has developed a mobile app designed to help Hajj pilgrims navigate their journey with ease, eliminating a common challenge faced during the intense pilgrimage: getting lost. Led by student Hassan Al-Sulami, the team created the Musaed app, an interactive tool that can help pilgrims locate their camps and navigate crowded areas. 'The innovative idea aims to ease the pilgrims' journey by presenting it at the upcoming Hajj and Umrah Conference, seeking a sponsor to adopt it,' Al-Sulami said. 'We are working to integrate it into the Nusuk Haq Hajj app.' • Although the app is still in its prototype phase and pending official approvals, the Musaed project reflects the creativity and technical potential of Saudi youth. • Led by Saudi student Hassan Al-Sulami, the Musaed app is an interactive tool that can help pilgrims locate their camps and navigate crowded areas. The app was born out of firsthand observation during the 2022 Hajj, when Al-Sulami and his team noticed many pilgrims struggling to find their tents, leading to missed rituals and logistical and transport delays. Using technologies like the Internet of Things, Musaed enables pilgrims to identify their camp locations on an offline map after an initial download. A standout feature is its use of the phone's camera to identify the direction of the camp, similar to how one uses augmented-reality compass function to find the Qibla direction. The app's concept also includes audio and visual directions that serve as a personal guide to help pilgrims navigate their surroundings. The app will also provide suggested routes and available facilities, as well as a real-time alert feature that notifies users of congestion. A built-in contact feature allows direct communication with supervisors or relevant authorities, adding a layer of safety and assurance. Although the app is still in its prototype phase and pending official approvals, the Musaed project reflects the creativity and technical potential of Saudi youth. With more than 1 million pilgrims arriving each year, initiatives like Musaed offer scalable, tech-forward solutions that support Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving pilgrims with efficiency and care.
