'I was fast asleep when my brother Karthikeya woke me up and broke the news of my success in the JEE exam. The house erupted in celebrations. I am still excited,' said an excited Vadlamudi Lokesh, who secured an all-India 10th rank in the JEE (Advanced) 2025 and is also the State topper.
IIT-Kanpur announced the results in the early hours of Monday for the entrance exam conducted on May 18. Lokesh had appeared for the exam from the IIT Hyderabad zone and secured 317 marks, placing him in the top 10 of the Common Rank List (CRL).
His father, Venkaiah Naidu, who works with a Dutch-based NGO, and mother, Sailaja, a homemaker, are elated over their son's achievement. 'Ï worked really hard and was confident that the amount of hard work I invested in my preparation for the exam, would pay off,' he says, adding that he was expecting a rank below 60. 'To know that I had done way better and had scored 10th rank came as a pleasant surprise,' he told The Hindu on Wednesday.
Lokesh is keen on joining IIT-Bombay and pursue a course in Computer Science Engineering (CSE). 'My aim is to start my own company in the future and pay back to society,' says the young achiever. After completing his schooling in different places, including his primary education in Ethiopia, he joined the Narayana campus at Kanuru in Vijayawada for intermediate education.
Students of IIT Hyderabad zone performed exceptionally well this year, securing five positions in the top 20. Arnav Singh from Hyderabad bagged the 9th rank with 319 marks, while Lokesh secured 10th position. Dharmana Gnana Rutvik Sai, also from Andhra Pradesh, secured 18th rank and topped in the OBC-NCL category at the national level. Vangala Ajay Reddy from Nellore stood 19th and secured first rank in the GEN-EWS category, followed by Avanaganti Anirudh Reddy, who secured 20th position.

Tuljapur temple to resume distribution of prasad with Chitale Bandhu laddoos
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: After a temporary halt, devotees visiting the revered Tulja Bhavani temple in Dharashiv district will soon receive laddoos as prasad, with Pune-based Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale roped in for preparation and supply. The decision comes as part of a renewed focus on ensuring purity and quality in religious offerings. Confirming the development, Dharashiv collector Keerthi Kiran Pujar told TOI, "The prasad in the form of laddoos will be prepared by Pune's famous Chitale Bandhu." He clarified that the sweet-maker is charging close to Rs 29 for 50g of laddoos, while the temple trust will be charging devotees Rs 30 only. The Tulja Bhavani temple trust stopped distributing prasad some time ago after receiving several complaints regarding its quality. In a significant policy shift, the trust floated tenders in Sept 2024, inviting reputed firms to take over prasad preparation. This move was prompted by heightened concerns nationwide, particularly after allegations of the use of animal fat and fish oil in the prasad served at the Tirupati Balaji temple created a stir among devotees. Chitale Bandhu, known for its high standards in sweet preparation, was selected through a transparent bidding process. The Tulja Bhavani temple is one of Maharashtra's most important religious destinations. It is counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and draws lakhs of pilgrims every year. The temple also holds a special place in Maratha history, with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj known to be a devout follower of the goddess. Officials said prasad distribution is likely to resume once the necessary logistics and packaging arrangements are finalised. The prasad will be made using pure ghee and traditional ingredients, aligning with the temple's cultural and spiritual heritage. Shishir H. Shetty from Moodbidri is COMEDK UGET-2025 topper
Bengaluru The Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) announced Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET-2025) results on Friday and Shishir H. Shetty from Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada district, secured the first rank. Second and the third ranks were bagged by Maulik Jain from Punjab and Varun J. Kumar from Bengaluru, respectively. Of the top 10, only four students are from Karnataka. Other rank holders are Vennapusa Harshavardhan Reddy from Andhra Pradesh (4), Nitesh Anand from Bihar (5), N.B. Ritesh Varshan from Uttar Pradesh (6) Manojna Shreevijay Kalburgi from Bengaluru (7), G. Saikiran from Bengaluru (8), Anurag Chaudhary from Uttar Pradesh (9) and Bhupathi Nithin Agnihotri from Andhra Pradesh (10). Interestingly, all the top 10 rank holders are boys this time. Of the top 100 ranks, students from Karnataka bagged 55 ranks. Rank cards of the eligible candidates have been generated and are available to the candidates in their respective applicant login on the COMEDK website ( As per the details shared by the COMEDK authorities, 11,412 candidates are in 90 to 100 percentile. Of this, 3,330 candidates are from Karnataka. Similarly, 11,446 candidates are between the 80 and 90 percentile and of which 3,050 candidates are from Karnataka. As against 1,31,937 candidates registered for the test, around 1,13,111 (37,715 Karnataka and 75,396 Non-Karnataka) candidates appeared for the test which was held on May 10 and 25, 2025. As many as 69 Candidates challenged the answer keys. 'Taking into consideration the advice of the Expert Committee, which went into these clarifications,' says the statement by COMEDK. The authorities even clarified that the counselling would be conducted online and the candidates have to upload the scanned copies of the documents through their login. These uploaded documents will be verified by the panel of expert verification officers.

Kochi corporation plans to entrust abattoir project at Kaloor to new agency due to delays
Kochi: With Impact Kerala, the agency entrusted with the construction of a modern slaughterhouse in Kaloor, failing to start the project, Kochi corporation is exploring alternatives to set up the facility. The corporation authorities have started talks with a Kolkata-based firm to set up the abattoir. Though the project was designed more than a decade ago, the work was entrusted to Impact Kerala and the agency was sitting on the project for the past two years. "The Impact Kerala authorities are not responding to our queries. Recently, they informed us about roping in a contractor to start the work. When we asked them to brief us about the project, they failed to do so," said corporation health standing committee chairman T K Asharaf. Though TOI contacted Impact Kerala officials regarding the progress of the project, they didn't respond. "We will be able to take a final decision on the project only if the agency makes a presentation. If they fail to give the details, we are planning to rope in another agency. We have already held talks with a Kolkata-based firm. If Impact Kerala is ready to continue with the project at Kaloor, we can entrust the work on an abattoir at Marakkadavu in Mattancherry to the Kolkata-based firm," Asharaf said. The condition of the existing abattoir owned by the corporation at Kaloor continues to be pathetic. The pollution control board (PCB) ordered the closure of the slaughterhouse citing shortcomings in treating the waste generated while culling the animals. The corporation authorities were forced to close down the facility on Sept 26, 2022. Following the corporation's request to run the existing abattoir for six more months to facilitate the local body to construct a new one, PCB granted the nod for operating the slaughterhouse on a temporary basis.
