1-year-old reportedly overdoses on mother's fentanyl
Mar. 6—A 35-year-old woman was arrested after her 1-year-old son reportedly overdosed on fentanyl Wednesday morning, according to a Spokane Valley Police Department news release.
Samantha J. Anderson was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of reckless endangerment, a gross misdemeanor. The boy was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, police said.
Deputies and firefighters responded at about 9:30 a.m. to the 11200 block of East 10th Avenue to a reported overdose, according to the release. The boy's aunt told 911 the child was turning blue and was believed to have come in contact with fentanyl. She reported two doses of Narcan had been administered, but the child was still unresponsive.
Deputies arrived and found the child breathing and crying. Firefighters then took over medical care.
Anderson told deputies she smoked fentanyl the night before, and afterward, placed the used foil in her purse and returned home.
On Wednesday, while in the kitchen, she saw her son playing in the living room where her purse was, the release said. She thought he was sucking on something and believed it was his thumb.
A few minutes later, she noticed her son was not moving or responding to her, and she could see he was turning blue. She said he was not breathing and that she found the foil used to smoke fentanyl lying on the floor next to him.
She gave her son two doses of Narcan, started CPR and called for her sister to help.
The child's aunt came upstairs, called 911 and started CPR with instructions from a 911 communications officer. Soon after, her nephew started to cry and breathe on his own as deputies arrived.
Deputies notified the victim's father and Child Protective Services of the incident, police said.

(WSPA) – The Anderson County Coroner reported that a woman was found dead in her pool in Anderson County. 71-year-old Deborah Pruitt Jones was reportedly found in her pool by her husband at approximately 4:30 p.m. this afternoon at Brown Avenue. A Wisconsin sicko was found guilty of killing and dismembering a 19-year-old college co-ed on their first date in a grisly scene eerily similar to a Netflix documentary he watched days earlier. Maxwell Anderson, 34, sat stone-faced as Judge Laura Crivello read the guilty verdicts in the April 2024 murder of Sade Carleena Robinson after the jury discussed for less than an hour Friday afternoon. Robinson was studying criminal justice at Milwaukee Area Technical College when she met Anderson for dinner on April 1, 2024. Robinson, who was described as being excited for the date, went out to a restaurant and a bar with Anderson before returning to his Milwaukee home. She was reported missing on April 2 when she didn't show up for her shift at a pizzeria. Other photos on Anderson's phone included pictures of the college student inside his home, described as graphic and disturbing. 'That was pretty damning evidence that shook everyone,' Blascoe said. 'I physically felt like I was gonna throw up at that point. I know a lot of people were shaking and crying.' Some of the photos captured Anderson groping Robinson as she lay face down on his couch. Prosecutors said Robinson was incapacitated at that point and could not have resisted. She said the photos were a turning point in the trials as they physically put Robinson inside the home of her soon-to-be killer. Hitchhiker dies after Northern California deputies restrain him, using pepper spray and Taser
A Northern California hitchhiker died Thursday evening after he was restrained by law enforcement officers who zapped him with a Taser, used pepper spray and held him down on his stomach as they struggled to place him under arrest, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office. The confrontation between law enforcement and the 36-year-old hitchhiker occurred in Willits after officers received a complaint that the hitchhiker had 'brutally assaulted' a driver who had picked him up. The incident began around 7:02 p.m. when the California Highway Patrol notified the sheriff's office of an altercation between a driver and the hitchhiker in the 2000 block of Hearst Willits Road. Authorities say the attack on the driver was unprovoked and his injuries required hospitalization. A sheriff's deputy responding to the area encountered the suspect walking in the middle of the roadway. According to the department, the man ignored commands, assumed a fighting stance, and lunged at the deputy, prompting a drawn Taser and repeated attempts at de-escalation. The situation escalated as the man fled into nearby brush. Law enforcement used pepper spray and a Taser after the man resisted arrest and allegedly assaulted a deputy during the struggle to restrain him, the sheriff's office said. Officers from the Willits Police Department arrived to assist, and authorities eventually succeeded in handcuffing the suspect. Shortly after, deputies reported that the man became unresponsive. CPR was initiated and Narcan was administered at the scene. Emergency responders continued life-saving efforts for roughly 30 minutes before the man was pronounced dead. As required under county protocol for in-custody deaths, the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office has taken over the investigation.
