Excited to watch some anime on your Nintendo Switch 2? Well, too damn bad.
Nothing is sacred, especially anime. However, the Crunchyroll app is just one of 100+ identified software casualties that will not be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch.
Nintendo published testing data for over 15,000 Nintendo Switch titles on May 27, measuring their compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2, and over 100 games and apps are either completely incompatible or refuse to play nicely with the company's upcoming handheld console.
The question is: are you going to be missing out on your favorite Nintendo Switch title when the Switch 2 drops on June 5? We know anime is dead (cries in Jujutsu Kaisen), but here's a look at everything else Nintendo fans will be losing access to.

There are quite a few games, some you might not have heard before, and others that are near and dear to you.
Nintendo published the full list in three separate PDFs: games with some compatibility issues, games with start-up issues, and games that will be fixed at or post-launch.
Some of the more popular titles that fail to start up include: Dead by Daylight, Final Fantasy, Little Nightmares, Warframe, Rocket League, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
Half of these are online multiplayer games with a huge player base. I mean, can you tell me about a monster that isn't in Dead by Daylight? Even Vecna is in there!
(For the uncultured, Vecna is an infamous monster from Dungeons & Dragons, popularized by Matthew Mercer's portrayal of him in Critical Role — Mercer even portrayed him in the game!)
While Nintendo provided a list of all the games that have 'issues,' there isn't a document that states which titles are 100% not compatible. In the chart it published, there seems to be a number of them, but it's unclear which.
But in terms of software, you'll find these apps are DOA: Crunchyroll, Hulu, InkyPen, ABEMA, and Niconico.
Don't play any of the affected titles? Well, did you happen to purchase the ridiculous range of peripheral-based games on the original Switch? Then I have some bad news for you, too: the Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, and Nintendo Switch Sports accessories aren't compatible with the Joy-Con 2 controllers.
Even if they were, the Joy-Con 2 controllers don't feature an IR motion camera, so full functionality wouldn't be possible. Thankfully, you can still connect the Switch's original Joy-Con controllers to the Switch 2 and get the authentic experience.
Nintendo is still testing these titles, so we may get some more wins and losses along the way ahead of the handheld console's official release on June 5.
Overall, I hope that developers continue to work with Nintendo to make these games and software compatible, otherwise, we're all going to be out of anime (cough), I mean, I'm so disappointed about Fall Guys having compatibility issues.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has an Xbox-shaped problem, and we just got our first look at it
Switch 2 is almost here, but a recent Switch update caused problems—here's how Nintendo responded
If you preordered a Switch 2 you might want to buy a new Pro controller ASAP

The video game actors' strike may be over soon

American Screen Actors Guild members have reached a 'tentative' contract agreement with major gaming companies that could potentially end the 11-month-long video game actors' strike. SAG-AFTRA announced the tentative contract on Monday without specifying terms or protections for performers. The strike began on July 26th, 2024, after the union and a bargaining committee of video game companies — including Activision, Epic Games, EA, Disney Character Voices, Take-Two, Insomniac Games, WB Games, and others — failed to agree on worker protections around AI. 'It is expected the terms of a strike suspension agreement will be finalized with employers soon,' SAG-AFTRA announced. 'Until such agreement is reached, however, SAG-AFTRA members will remain on strike against these employers.' The contract is subject to approval by the SAG-AFTRA national board and is expected to be put to a ratification vote with union members 'in the coming weeks.' If all goes well, the lengthy list of restrictions preventing SAG-AFTRA's approximately 160,000 members from undertaking video game projects will be lifted, alleviating some development headaches for new titles. 'Everyone at SAG-AFTRA is immensely grateful for the sacrifices made by video game performers and the dedication of the Interactive Media Agreement Negotiating Committee throughout these many months of the video game strike,' SAG-AFTRA's Chief Negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, said in the announcement. 'Patience and persistence has resulted in a deal that puts in place the necessary AI guardrails that defend performers' livelihoods in the AI age, alongside other important gains.'

My Least Favorite Trend to Come Out of Pride This Year? Old-School Biphobia

Like any member of the LGBTQ+ community, I love nothing more than a good gay joke. When I identified as a lesbian, my stock-in-trade was Subaru bits (hacky, yes, but I did actually own one…until I crashed it); and once I came out as bi, I found my way to comfort within my new sexual identity by trading bits with other bisexuals about wearing Doc Martens, sitting backwards in chairs, and whatever the hell else it is that we allegedly do besides, you know, being open to dating people of all genders. All this is to say that it's not easy to offend me when it comes to intra-community gay joshing. But some of the jokes—and, worse, genuine expressions of outrage—that I've seen about queer celebrities JoJo Siwa and Billie Eilish lately have been genuinely infuriating. The gay rumor mill has been churning out a lot of gossip about Siwa allegedly dumping her nonbinary partner Kath Ebbs for her Celebrity Big Brother costar Chris Hughes, and now that Eilish has been spotted making out with actor Nat Wolff, a longtime friend of hers, it seems that absolutely everyone has an opinion on what these two very young, sexually fluid celebrities should be doing with their dating lives. Look, I was as excited as the next queer she/they when Siwa came out in 2021, and I rejoiced when Eilish sang about wanting to 'eat that girl for lunch.' Do I understand why it might feel mildly disappointing to see Siwa and Eilish out and about with cishet men? Sure! I've had enough crushes on bi girls who ended up choosing guys over me to fill a whole back catalog of Chappell Roan songs. But the social media (and IRL) discourse suggesting that Siwa and Eilish are doing something wrong—instead of embracing the concept that a couple of 20-somethings might be…gasp…attracted to people of different genders—also rubs me the wrong way as someone building a life with a trans man. The narrative that the only 'real' way to fulfill one's expectations as a queer woman is by dating people who share your gender identity is not just narrow-minded; it's an act of old-fashioned bi erasure. Bisexuality can mean anything we want it to (emphasis on 'we,' as in the actual bisexual community), and I choose to interpret it as—in the words of my friend Haley Jakobson—'horny for gender expansiveness.' I might be of gay-crone age compared to Siwa and Eilish, but I've lived enough queer life to know that my coming-out process may not be over. I could find myself identifying as a lesbian again someday, or as genderqueer, or as something else entirely, and I won't be any less gay or less valid for it. All I want this Pride is for that same grace to be extended to Siwa, Eilish, and the many, many queer people whose identities can't necessarily be distilled to a single word—or an individual partner.
