Canva integrates Google's Veo 3 for AI video generation with in-sync audio
Digital graphic design and editing platform Canva has announced the integration of Google's latest video generation model, Veo 3, into its suite of tools. The company stated that Canva AI, its proprietary suite of artificial intelligence features, now enables users to generate eight-second video clips with synchronised audio using the Veo 3 model. The feature is also accessible via Leonardo.Ai, a Canva-owned creative platform.
Unveiled last month at Google's I/O event, Veo 3 is the latest version of Google's video generation model. It not only produces high-quality visuals from text prompts but also generates corresponding audio—including ambient sounds and character dialogue.
Canva confirmed that video generation with Veo 3 is included in existing subscription plans. Paid users can access the tool through the Canva AI section on both the web and mobile app, using descriptive text prompts to generate video content.
Earlier this month, Google began expanding access to Veo 3 for its AI Pro subscribers. Previously limited to users on the Ultra plan, Veo 3 is now available via Flow—Google's AI-powered video editing platform—and the Gemini mobile app with limited generations for Pro-tier subscribers.

Google is testing voice feature in search with AI Mode
Google has said they are testing Search Live with voice input for AI Mode in the Google app. Available to the Android and iOS users in the U.S., users on Google Labs can access the feature. 'This is perfect for when you're on the go or multitasking, like if you're packing for a trip. Simply open the Google app, tap the new 'Live' icon and verbally ask your question, like, 'What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?' You'll hear a helpful AI-generated audio response and you can easily follow up with another question, like, 'What should I do if it still wrinkles?' You'll also find easy-to-access links right on your screen so you can dig deeper with content from the web,' a blog posted by the company said. Users can continue chatting in Search Live even as they use other apps and even click on the 'transcript' button to see the text version of the response. They can also go back to a Search Live response via AI Mode history. Search Live is based on a custom version of the Gemini model with advanced voice capabilities and it also uses a query fan-out technique to display a wider range of results. Google will be rolling out more capabilities to Search Live in AI Mode including camera so it can see what the user is looking at in real-time. The Search Live option appears as a new icon directly under the search bar once inside AI Mode in Labs.

Google Search gets smarter: No typing. Just keep talking for results
Google recently announced AI mode for Search that brings advanced and hassle-free search capabilities to users. Now, similar to ChatGPT voice mode and Gemini Live, Google has announced 'Search Live' within AI mode, allowing users to make voice-based queries. With voice-based AI search, users can make back-to-back conversations to gather desired information. Search Live is similar to Gemini Live; however, both AI-based voice models offer different features and services. This new AI feature will not only resolve queries but also provide users with easy-to-access links for greater knowledge. Know more about how the Search Live feature on AI Mode works. Also read: Google pauses 'Ask Photos' AI Feature to address performance issues Search Live is a conversational AI search rolling out to the Google app. This feature can be accessed within the Google app, allowing users to have a voice-based conversation with Search instead of having to type queries. This feature is currently available to people who are enrolled on the AI Mode experiment in Labs. To access Search Live on Android or iOS, users simply need to open the Google app and click on the new 'Live' icon below the search bar to start conversations. Google says that Search Live also has the ability to run in the background. Therefore, users can continue having back-and-forth conversations while being on another app. This makes multitasking and Google search easier and hassle-free. The Search Live also include a 'transcript' button to convert the voice responses into text. Reportedly, the feature utilises a custom version of Gemini with advanced voice capabilities for accurate information. Additionally, all the past voice-based queries can be accessed via the AI Mode history, allowing users to revisit specific responses. End of content creators? YouTube Shorts to let users make videos with text prompts
Anyone can soon make short videos for YouTube without needing a camera or video editing skills. YouTube is gearing up to integrate its latest AI video generation technology, Veo 3, directly into YouTube Shorts later this summer. The company's CEO, Neal Mohan, revealed this update during his keynote speech at Cannes Lions. This new AI model lets users produce complete short video clips with both visuals and sound by simply entering text prompts, which will make it a significant advance in AI-driven content creation. Currently, Shorts creators use the previous Veo 2 model, which allows them to generate backgrounds through Dream Screen or create standalone clips. While Mohan did not provide detailed features of Veo 3's Shorts integration, he highlighted improvements in video quality and audio inclusion, which suggests these enhancements will be available for Shorts users. Also read: India's digital job scene to expand in 2025 with rise in AI and data-driven roles At present, Veo 3 video generation is accessible through paid subscriptions to Google's AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. It remains unclear whether using Veo 3 within Shorts will require a similar subscription, and Google has not given any clarification on this. YouTube has also announced that Shorts now reach over 200 billion views per day, which reflects their growing popularity. However, the introduction of Veo 3 raises concerns about misuse, particularly the potential to create deepfake videos of celebrities or imitate well-known creators. To address these risks, YouTube is collaborating with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and other partners to develop tools which will allow public figures to control the use of their likenesses on the platform. The effectiveness of these protective measures is still uncertain. Also read: Neurotech and brain data: New frontier of privacy concerns The rise of AI-generated content could also impact the earnings of authentic creators. More than one-quarter of YouTube Partner Program members earn income from Shorts, and the influx of AI-produced videos may saturate the platform, which may potentially push genuine creators to explore alternatives like TikTok or Instagram Reels. Also read: Google I/O 2025: Gemini Live with camera now free for everyone, Veo 3 for AI Ultra and other reveals In short, YouTube's integration of Veo 3 into Shorts aligns with Google's broader strategy to lead the short-form video market through generative AI. While this technology could make content creation more accessible, it also raises legitimate questions about originality, creative value, and the long-term health of the platform in an AI-driven environment.
