GA girl badly injured in ATV crash shares her recovery story
A Morgan County family is sharing a little girl's survival story in an effort to bring awareness to ATV safety.
Memorial Day 2023, Mattelyn Atkinson was riding on an ATV known as a Gator with her big sister and two friends when it flipped.
Her sister managed to get to her cell phone and call for help.
'She said, 'Momma, the Gator is turned over, and it's on top of us,' Tori Atkinson told Channel 2's Courtney Francisco.
A cousin nearby lifted the ATV off as the mom ran to help. Her youngest, Mattelyn, was hurt the worst.

'She looked up and was like, 'Mommy, I'm scared,'' Tori Atkinson said. 'Her entire inside of her ankle was completely gone, yes. It broke all her ribs, her collarbone. She had two leg fractures. It detached her bottom lip from her teeth.'
Paramedics flew the little girl from the family farm in Morgan County to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
'We were immediately so thankful for how quickly the trauma team at Children's cared for Mattelyn,' Tori said. 'It felt like we were surrounded by angels.'
Her little girl was 10 years old at the time. Doctors had to put her on a ventilator, perform four surgeries, and she had to learn to walk again.
After 28 days in the hospital, doctors at CHOA and Scottish Rite allowed her to come home, continue rehab, and working to walk on her own.

'I felt so much responsibility. I just wanted, we wanted them to have a good time, and, the way we grew up, that's what we did, you know?' Tori Atkinson said.
Two years later, her daughter is 12 now. Her strength is back. She's a sideline cheerleader.
'I still ride them a little bit, but I ride them with my parents,' Mattelyn Atkinson said.
She wanted to share her painful journey to recovery in an effort to save lives.
'It changed my life a lot about doing stuff alone and thinking about stuff before you do it to make sure it's safe or not,' said Mattelyn Atkinson.
According to Consumer Federation of America, more than 600 people died on ATVs in 2024. 119 of them were under 16, including an infant and six toddlers.
This year, Morgan County grieved the loss of two 12-year-old boys who died while riding an ATV.

Manhunt underway for GA man accused of ramming truck into patrol vehicle, leaving deputy injured
A suspect wanted for assault on a deputy remains at large, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Hall is charged with theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of an officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Habersham County Detention Center. Harris remains on the run. If you see him, do not approach. Instead, call 911 immediately. Harris is facing charges of possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a crime, fleeing/eluding a police officer, aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer, obstruction of an officer, and theft by receiving stolen property. The 34-year-old also has outstanding warrants for his arrest from an unrelated incident. According to the GBI, the truck and trailer had been reported stolen out of Hall County before the incident. The GBI's role is limited to conducting an independent investigation into the use of force.

Pickleball Kingdom is bringing a location to Austell
A pickleball franchise is expanding to Cobb County. Pickleball Kingdom will open a new location at 3999 Austell Road, Suite 501, in Austell. The facility will be about 25,000 square feet and include 10 professional-grade indoor courts. It is expected to open this winter. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Pickleball Kingdom describes itself as the 'primer indoor pickleball franchise,' and includes coaching, youth programs and league tournaments. The company announced in February that it will be launching a major expansion across Georgia, with more than 20 clubs in development. Nithi and Usha Anand are spearheading the expansion in Georgia. 'We are delighted to bring Pickleball Kingdom to Austell and contribute to the development of a thriving pickleball community in this area,' said the Anands in a statement. 'Our vision is to create a welcoming space where individuals can engage in this exciting sport, improve their fitness, and connect with others who share a passion for pickleball.' So far, in addition to the Austell location, Pickleball Kingdom is opening three other locations in Georgia: in Watkinsville at Hog Mountain Road and Macon Highway, as well as locations yet to be determined in Alpharetta and Atlanta. The opening date for the Watkinsville location hasn't been listed yet. Pickleball Kingdom has big plans. It currently has locations in nine states, with more locations targeted for 15 other states, according to the company's website. Local woman trying to recover mom's Facebook account after stranger memorializes it
A Facebook account full of family memories was memorialized by a stranger without the family's knowledge. Now, a woman is fighting for access to her mom's account. Couch says her mom, Soni May Shaw, used Facebook like a scrapbook, and now those memories are gone. 'She was actually kind of getting popular on TikTok out of nowhere. She posted, like, easy Sunday game day recipes to feed a family, because Sundays were her thing.' After her mom passed, Couch found comfort reading through old posts. One day, she went to check her mom's profile and it was memorialized. 'The only thing that I can see is my memories that she's tagged me in or stuff that I've tagged her in,' Couch said. Couch says she was shocked, and she immediately tried to find who had memorialized the page, but no one came forward. 'Somebody took that away from us,' Couch said. It made Couch curious. How simple is it to convince Facebook someone is dead? 'I made a fake Facebook. I made myself the legacy contact and then I reported it to memorialize it,' Couch said. 'I found some old lady picture on Facebook, made it her profile picture, I put her picture with a ChatGPT obituary and all you have to do- you don't have to be logged into Facebook- I just went ahead through a Safari browser, report - memorialized.' Couch says she has reached out to Facebook nine times since May and has only gotten one response. 'They basically told me that there was nothing that they could do. It was irreversible and once it's done, it's done,' Couch said. 'It's cruel and Facebook has to do something about it.' News Center 7 reached out to Facebook to see if it's possible to recover Couch's mother's profile, but we have not heard back.
