Suspect nabbed after attempting to steal unmarked police car

A 32-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to steal an unmarked police vehicle while officers were conducting an investigation. The Thunder Bay Police Service said the incident occurred on Tupper Street on June 5. Authorities said an officer at the scene on Thursday noticed the suspect approach the cruiser and directed him to go around due to the closed road. Instead, the man entered the driver's seat and tried to take the vehicle. 'The officer was able to remove the suspect from the vehicle and, with the assistance of another officer, placed him under arrest,' police said in a news release. As a result of the incident, the man accused has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused appeared in court on Friday and remains in custody pending a future court appearance.
