Pre-Monsoon Rain In Parts Of Delhi, Nearby Areas, Brings Down Heat

Delhi and its neighbouring regions experienced heavy rainfall today, following days of scorching heat and humidity. The showers brought much-needed relief after several sunny days, as monsoon continued to elude the national capital with June coming to a close.
According to the weather office, areas in the east, west, south, and southeast Delhi have recorded rainfall. The city remains under an 'orange' alert which signifies 'be prepared' as per the IMD's colour code.
The rain disrupted traffic in several areas in Delhi. Visuals showed a traffic jam in Sheikh Sarai towards the BRT road in Chirag Delhi.

The national capital witnessed cloudy conditions for the past three to four days, but light to very light rainfall occurred only in a few areas. The IMD has predicted that the monsoons may hit the Capital between June 30 and July 1.

Typically, the southwest monsoon reaches Delhi around June 27-30.
The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 28.7 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees above the season's average. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 37 degrees Celsius, the department said.

Rain, storms expected in Delhi as IMD warns of gusty winds, lightning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi on Sunday, forecasting generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. These are expected to be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph, occasionally reaching up to 50 kmph during storms. According to IMD, a yellow alert suggests the possibility of moderate rainfall. While not severe, it might cause localised flooding in low-lying areas or disrupt outdoor activities. The showers are likely to bring down the maximum temperature, keeping it between 33–35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius. Delhi weather: Weekly forecast Delhi is expected to experience mostly cloudy skies from June 29 to July 4, with the IMD issuing a yellow alert for June 29 and 30. Thunderstorms, lightning and light to very light rainfall have been forecast through July 2. Evening or night-time storms may bring gusty winds ranging from 30–40 kmph, with occasional peaks of 50 kmph. Rainfall intensity is likely to vary, but no heatwave conditions are expected during the week. Delhi pollution: Air quality remains 'satisfactory' Delhi's air quality improved on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) entering the 'satisfactory' category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI was recorded at 85 at 7 am on June 29, down slightly from 86 at the same time a day earlier. An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51–100 'satisfactory', 101–200 'moderate', 201–300 'poor', 301–400 'very poor' and 401–500 'severe'.

9 workers missing after cloudburst in Uttarakhand
Around nine road construction workers are feared to have been swept away following a cloudburst along the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi district early Sunday, police said. The workers went missing following heavy rainfall and cloudburst near Silai Bend in Barkot area on way to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district, the Disaster Control Room here said. Barkot police station SHO Deepak Kathait said information about a cloudburst on the Yamunotri highway was received around midnight. A team rushed to the spot and found that the workers engaged in road construction work lived there by putting up tents.
