Ukraine will no longer create new brigades, official says
Ukraine will no longer form new military brigades, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa said in a television interview on Feb. 11.
His comments come as Ukraine's is set to its structure, introducing a corps system to replace its current brigade-level system.
The government will now focus on strengthening existing brigades operating in combat zones by replenishing them, Palisa said.
"There is a detailed plan... In my opinion, the transition to a corps system is long overdue," Palisa said.
"This... is not just a matter of time, it will allow us to be more effective on the battlefield in terms of management and use resources more efficiently."
Training will continue in existing brigades taking into account situations that arose in the past, Palisa added, possibly referring to recent military controversies.
Ukrainian authorities have faced criticism for in the military, including problems with the French-trained 155th "Anne of Kyiv" Brigade and the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov an investigation on Dec. 16 into the alleged abuse, extortion, and humiliation of soldiers in the 211th Brigade by their commanders.
The incidents involving the 211th Pontoon Bridge Brigade garnered widespread backlash. In one of the alleged cases of , Senior Lieutenant Vladyslav Pastukh ordered subordinates to tie a victim to a wooden cross, where the soldier was immobilized for four hours.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a military ombudsman to oversee conditions in Ukraine's Armed Forces.

Dawn, there is nothing funny about October 7
Dawn French has become the latest 'national treasure' to betray a complete lack of understanding of the conflict in the Middle East. Following hot off the heels of that other self-styled Professor of Palestine, Gary Lineker, the comedian insisted there was nothing 'complicated' or 'nuanced' about the ongoing war in Gaza. In a video posted on X, she put on a whiny childish voice to mock Israelis over invoking the October 7 attacks, in which 1,195 people were murdered. Credit: X/@Dawn_French 'Bottom line is no,' she insisted. Then, in a childish voice: 'Yeah but you know they did a bad thing to us. [Serious voice] Yeah but no. [Childish voice] But we want that land and there's a lot of history and urgh… [Serious voice] No. [Childish voice] Those people are not even people are they really? [Serious voice] No.' Like so much of French's output, she appeared under the illusion that she was being funny. In fact, it amounted to an obnoxious and offensive piece of useful idiocy, dressed up as performance art. Imagine being so warped that you would dismiss the rape and murder of Israeli women – the slaying of children and babies – as 'a bad thing'. The implication is that Israel does not have a right to defend itself. That it has acted disproportionately. Russia says Ukraine postpones prisoner exchange, accepting bodies
(Reuters) -Ukraine has unexpectedly postponed exchanging prisoners of war and accepting the bodies of killed soldiers for an indefinite period, Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky said on Saturday. Russia and Ukraine held the second round of peace talks in Istanbul on Monday where they agreed to exchange more prisoners - focusing on the youngest and most severely wounded - and to return the bodies of 12,000 dead soldiers. "In strict accordance with the Istanbul agreements, on June 6, Russia began a humanitarian operation to hand over to Ukraine more than 6,000 bodies of killed Ukrainian servicemen, as well as to exchange wounded and seriously ill prisoners of war and prisoners of war under the age of 25," Medinsky said on Telegram. He said that 1,212 bodies of killed Ukrainian soldiers were in refrigerated containers at the exchange point. Russia has also handed over to Ukraine the first list of 640 prisoners of war, categorised as "wounded, seriously ill and young people," in order to begin the exchange, Medinsky added. "The Russian Defence Ministry's contact group is on the border with Ukraine," he said, adding that Ukrainian negotiators were not at the exchange location. Ukrainian officials responsible for the exchanges did not respond to a request for comment. Medinsky urged Ukraine to strictly adhere to the schedule and the agreements, and to immediately proceed with the exchange. "We are on site. We are fully prepared to work. International TV channels, news agencies and correspondents are welcome to come and see for themselves that this is indeed the case," he said.
