Tommy Paul keeps on truckin' at French Open after getting his repossessed vehicle back

Independent25-05-2025

Tommy Paul was pleased to come back to win his first-round match at the French Open on Sunday, of course, but perhaps not as thrilled as he was to discuss regaining the truck that was repossessed back home in Florida when he accidentally missed some payments.
The 12th-seeded Paul kept on truckin' with his clay-court results at Roland-Garros by eliminating Elmer Moller of Denmark 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 at Court Simonne-Mathieu on a day that alternated a light rain and heavy wind with sunshine.
Afterward, the 2023 Australian Open semifinalist explained that his vehicular adventures that arose while he was reaching the semifinals at the Italian Open earlier this month resulted from changing banks and forgetting to properly adjust the automatic payments for his Ford F-150.
'I missed, I think it was, like three payments. They came and took it. I didn't know it happened like that. I didn't know how quick they would come and grab it — like in the middle of the night,' Paul said. 'Now I'm watching all these 'repo' shows, where they come in and swoop trucks at 1 in the morning. It's definitely a funny experience. To be in Europe while it happened is even crazier. But we did get it back.'
He found out that the truck was gone when his trainer — who was back in Florida — asked Paul to check his security camera footage to see whether there were any packages that had been delivered to the house and needed to be picked up.
To Paul's surprise, he recounted Sunday, 'There were no packages — and no truck.'
When he scrolled back through the video, the 28-year-old American who grew up in New Jersey saw what happened.
'I'm like, 'What the hell is going on? There's a tow truck coming and taking my car!' I thought it was stolen at first,' he said.
When he figured it out, Paul took to social media and posted the black-and-white footage of his property being towed away from his driveway, adding a soundtrack of Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On.'

Romeo Beckham leaves party with German influencer after break-up

Romeo Beckham has been spotted on a night out with a German influencer days after his break-up with Kim Turnbull was revealed. The middle son of David and Victoria Beckham, Romeo initially followed in his dad's footsteps and pursued a career in football. However last year he turned down a contract with Brentford FC to stay on with their B team and instead pursue a career in fashion. After breaking up with long-term girlfriend Mia Regan in February last year, the 22-year-old went on to date model and DJ Kim Turnbull, 26. But after a seven-month romance, and amid rumours of a Beckham family feud, last week it was revealed Romeo and Kim had split. A few days on, Romeo has been photographed on a night out with Caroline Daur, a model and influencer who boasts 4.6 million followers on Instagram. Late on Saturday night the pair were spotted leaving the same party at the Hotel Costes in Paris. Although she arrived alone around 11.30pm, Caroline and Romeo later slipped into the same car despite leaving the venue separately. They then headed to the French capital's trendy Julia nightclub, where they partied until 2:30am. However, security was reportedly on high alert, doing everything to shield her from the cameras including swearing at photographers. Despite initially travelling together, Romeo and Caroline then left the club separately. However, a source went on to tell MailOnline: 'Romeo was in town for work meetings, Roland Garros and also caught up with friends. He had dinner with his three friends one of whom is great friends with Caro, so she joined the group. It was a casual dinner in a group setting throughout the evening.' Caroline, 30, was born and raised in Hamburg, and started fashion blogging in 2014. Over the years she's worked with companies including Adidas, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Valentino and has founded her own brand and fitness program. The influencer has also starred in the Amazon Prime production Dinner Club and Netflix's She Said Yes. Overnight she shared a series of photos and videos from the French Open, where Romeo was seen on Friday attending the semi-final match between Italy's Lorenzo Musetti and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros. Dressed in a navy suit and black t-shirt, Romeo appeared somewhat downcast in some of the images taken at the game. It came after a source said Romeo and Kim had an 'amicable' split that has 'nothing to do' with the Beckham rift after her name was drawn into the drama after it was claimed she'd previously dated her boyfriend's brother Brooklyn, 26. 'Romeo and Kim are both young and they had a lovely time together but at that age things don't always last forever and they decided to split up,' a friend told the Daily Mail. 'They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues. It's a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn't to be. 'It happened a couple of weeks ago and relations have remained friendly between them.' The source went on to say each had a 'busy careers' and their travel schedules meant that 'having a relationship at this time isn't all that conducive to their lives'. More Trending Romeo previously dated model and content creator Mia, 22, for five years. When announcing their split in February last year, he wrote on Instagram: 'Mooch and I have parted ways after 5 years of love. We still have a lot of love and respect for each other and still hold a strong friendship and always will.' After featuring in a Burberry campaign when he was just 10, last year Romeo signed with fashion agency Paris Safe management and has since modelled for Versace at Milan Fashion Week. Wimbledon to be shown on new TV channel to end BBC's 88-year monopoly

Wimbledon will be shown on a new TV channel in the UK for 2025, ending the BBC's 88-year monopoly on the iconic Grand Slam tennis tournament. With the French Open having now concluded, Wimbledon is the next major event on the calendar, getting underway in south west London on June 30. Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament on the planet- and is widely regarded as the most prestigious – attracting fans from all over the world. The BBC have been exclusively showing the Championships since 1937 – but for the first time – it won't be the only UK broadcaster airing the action. Here's everything you need to know about the introduction of a secondary broadcaster… It's important to note that the BBC will remain the principle broadcaster of Wimbledon and live matches from the famous event will still be free to air. Wimbledon is a Category A event by Ofcom, meaning that live coverage must be made available on free-to-air channels. But there's a new secondary broadcaster, TNT Sports, who are taking over the daily 90-minute highlights show, aired at the end of each day's play. Both the BBC and TNT Sports will air the singles finals too – meaning viewers will be have the option to watch them on either channel. TNT Sports, which isn't free and requires a subscription, will take on a five-year deal that was originally signed by Eurosport in May last year. Eurosport disappeared from screens in February after TNT Sports absorbed their television rights in the UK and Republic of Ireland. A peak audience of 7.5 million people tuned into BBC One last year to watch Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final. The match was also also streamed live 1.78 million times on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport online. The 2024 women's singles final, in which Barbora Krejcikova defeated Jasmine Paolini, had a peak viewership of 4.1 million on BBC One. This year's Championships get underway on June 30 as the best tennis players in the world look to get their hands on a major trophy in SW19. Alcaraz is looking to register his second successive Channel Slam after defeating Jannik Sinner in a dramatic French Open final on Sunday. More Trending The Spaniard secured a rare Channel Slam in 2024, which is when a player wins Roland-Garros on clay and Wimbledon on grass in the same year. According to bookmakers Coral, Alcaraz is one of the two main favourites heading into Wimbledon, with 24-time major champion Djokovic a 6-1 shot. According to the latest odds from Coral… 6-4 – Carlos Alcaraz 6-4 – Jannik Sinner 6-1 – Novak Djokovic 8-1 Jack Draper 14-1 – Daniil Medvedev 16-1 Alexander Zverev 'Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner played out a thriller in the French Open final,' Coral spokesman John Hill said. 'Our betting suggests they may not have to wait long to renewal their rivalry, as they are locked together at the top of the Wimbledon outright betting.' This two-year deal requires £3,598.92 to be put down as an initial payment, and mileage is limited to 5,000 miles a year. This offer is better suited to lower-mileage drivers, because two-year, 8,000 miles per annum deals are all around £400 a month from every broker on the Auto Express Find a Car service, including from Select Car Leasing. Advertisement - Article continues below Despite that, you're getting one of the finest fast estates around. The 328bhp 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine fires the load-lugger from zero to 62mph in just 4.8 seconds, before topping out at 155mph. The car's seven-speed dual-clutch auto box also ensures gear changes are ruthlessly efficient. Beneath the practical body lies a trick four-wheel-drive system, which uses torque vectoring and electronic differential locks to send power to both front-to-rear and left-to-right. And the latest Golf R comes with DCC3 (Dynamic Chassis Control) as standard, allowing you to tweak the dampers and suspension to suit your mood. Of course, this being an estate car, space is important – rear legroom is pretty good and the 611-litre boot is enormous. Up front, the latest Golf features an improved cabin with an easier-to-use infotainment system and better-quality fixtures and fittings.
