Muharram 2025: Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar, and holds significant importance in Islam. Muharram is considered the second-holiest month in the Islamic calendar after Ramadan. It is one of the four sacred months in Islam, during which fighting and violence are generally prohibited.

In India, the crescent Moon was sighted on June 26, and the first day of Muharram-Ul-Haram will begin on June 27 (Friday), as declared by the Masjid-e-Nakhoda Markazi Rooyat-e-Hilal Committee. Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on Sunday, July 6.
Muharram History and Significance:
For Shia Muslims, Muharram is a period of mourning to commemorate the death of Hazrat Imam Hussain, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala. Shia Muslims often participate in processions, recite poetry and engage in acts of self-mortification to express their grief and devotion, some even in self-flagellation to recreate the suffering experienced by Imam Hussain. Meanwhile, Sunni Muslims observe the day by fasting and offering prayers.
Muharram is an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their actions, seek forgiveness and renew their commitment to their faith. The month also brings Muslims together, fostering a sense of community and unity as they observe various rituals and traditions.

Asaduddin Owaisi accuses BJP of ignoring real ‘threats', focusing only on illegal immigration
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday (June 29, 2025) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of neglecting pressing national security challenges by concentrating solely on the issue of illegal immigration from Bangladesh. Addressing a public rally in Maharashtra's Parbhani, Mr. Owaisi said the Union Government was overlooking significant geopolitical developments along India's eastern frontier, particularly the growing defence cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan, as well as reports of a Chinese airbase being constructed near the Bangladesh border. 'They keep talking about Bangladeshi people settling in India illegally. They (BJP) even claim that Bangladeshis have reached Parbhani. Let me tell them — no Bangladeshi will dare to come to Parbhani,' he said. 'Instead of talking about the development of Parbhani, creating jobs, improving healthcare, or addressing recent murder cases, this government is busy dividing people on religious lines, inciting riots, and demolishing mosques. Meetings held with LG to ensure all security arrangements for Amarnath Yatra: CM Omar Abdullah
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 30 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday spoke on the necessary arrangements facilitated for the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra. He further stated that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha chaired two meetings ahead of the pilgrimage-- one with the political parties and one with the civil society to ensure proper facilities for pilgrims. 'We have made the necessary arrangements to facilitate the pilgrims. The LG chaired two meetings, one with political parties and one with civil society. All necessary security arrangements have been made, and we are eagerly waiting for the pilgrims to arrive. The yatra will be flagged off from Jammu on 2 July, and they will be welcomed hope and pray that the yatra is a success, pilgrims come in good numbers, offer prayers, and go back safely...'Abdullah said, speaking to reporters. Earlier today, a large number of devotees visited special centres to register for the yatra. A devotee who came to the centre for registration said, 'The people are enthusiastic this time. There is no fear (due to the Pahalgam attack). Arrangements are good. The administration is with us. 'Another devotee added, 'You can see the enthusiasm in the people. I have faith in Amarnath. They (terrorists) can do whatever they want; we will not be affected. I want to request all the people to visit J&K so that our army and government can say that we are not affected by their (terrorists) actions.' Ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) has rolled out a robust multi-layered security plan along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims. Jammu-Srinagar Highway is one of the vital routes for thousands of pilgrims. The CRPF has intensified surveillance, deployed K-9 (dog) squads alongside its personnel along the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a key route used by thousands of pilgrims, and strengthened highway patrols, with a special focus on sensitive stretches, such as the Udhampur sector. The first batch of pilgrims will be flagged off from the Jammu base camp on July 2, 2025, while the Yatra will officially begin on July 3, 2025, via both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. (ANI)
