Etihad Airways is launching a brand new US destination from Abu Dhabi

Hold onto your hats, travellers, there's a serious new connection coming to the big city.
Etihad Airways is officially jetting off to Charlotte, North Carolina, adding some serious Southern charm to its U.S. network.
Kicking off from May 4, 2026, the new four-times-a-week service makes Etihad the first airline in the region to offer direct flights to one of America's fastest-growing cities – and we're already mentally packing.
Whether you're travelling for sweet tea and skyline views or heading stateside for business, this new route brings Abu Dhabi and Charlotte closer than ever, all thanks to Etihad's snazzy Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Expect that signature Etihad service in both Business and Economy, plus the joy of U.S. preclearance at Zayed International Airport, so you'll arrive in Charlotte like a local (well, almost).
The addition of Charlotte marks Etihad's sixth U.S. destination, joining New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston and Atlanta (which is set to take off July 2, 2025).
If you're not familiar with Charlotte, it's a powerhouse for finance, motorsport, tech and culture. It's home to Fortune 500 companies, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, leafy trails and some pretty dreamy Carolina barbecue. Not to mention, Charlotte Douglas International Airport ranked sixth in the world for aircraft movements last year – so it's kind of a big deal.
With midday arrivals and early morning departures, the schedule is tailor-made for slick international connections across Asia, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. So whether you're chasing business deals, nature trails, or biscuits and gravy, Etihad's got your ticket to the U.S. South.
Tickets are on sale now at etihad.com.

Post Views: 59 Etihad Airways celebrated the launch of flights to two new destinations in Central Europe – Prague and Warsaw. The UAE's national airline operated its inaugural flight to the enchanting Czech capital Prague, one of 16 new destinations the airline will add this year. Next the airline touched down in Warsaw for the first time, adding the vibrant Polish capital to its expanding European network. 'Our new Prague and Warsaw services open doors to countless possibilities,' said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer at Etihad Airways. 'These new routes create a bridge between two remarkable regions, connecting travellers from the Middle East to the heart of Central Europe, while offering seamless connections via Abu Dhabi to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and Australia.' Often called the 'City of a Hundred Spires', Prague captivates visitors with its stunning Gothic architecture, centuries-old squares, and lively cultural scene. The Czech capital's historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases architectural treasures spanning eight centuries, while its modern districts pulse with innovative cuisine, art, and design. Beyond the city, the surrounding region offers picturesque landscapes, from historic castles to renowned spa towns. In Poland, the modern city of Warsaw captivates with its distinctive contrasts – elegant architecture and contemporary skylines, traditional markets and inspired dining scenes, historic parks and cutting-edge cultural venues. This diversity is complemented by Poland's enticing array of experiences, from medieval cities to pristine forests and mountain ranges. Visitors to the UAE from Czechia and Poland, can enjoy Abu Dhabi's distinctive blend of tradition and modern luxury. The city serves as an ideal gateway to desert adventures, championship golf courses, and the entertainment district of Yas Island with its world-class theme parks and Yas Marina Circuit. Prague and Warsaw join Etihad's expanding European network at an exciting time. The airline is set to welcome 16 new destinations throughout 2025, including Atlanta (July), Taipei (September), and key Asian cities such as Hong Kong, Hanoi, and Krabi in the fourth quarter. Each Business Studio transforms into a fully-flat bed and offers direct aisle access, while Economy Smart seats provide enhanced comfort for all guests. The aircraft offers the latest in-flight entertainment technology and thoughtfully crafted comfort in both cabins. To celebrate Etihad's expanding network, the airline has launched a competition, The Extraordinary Challenge, daring guests to compete in a race to visit 15 of the airline's new destinations, including Prague and Warsaw, to win five million Etihad Guest miles. Any new or existing Etihad Guest member can register to compete and has 12 months to complete the challenge, the first three members to visit all 15 destinations will be awarded. Man charged over Instagram bomb threat on Singapore–Abu Dhabi flight

A man has been charged with making a bomb threat on his Instagram account while onboard an Etihad flight earlier this year. Azim Shah Abubakar Shah, 22, was charged by a court in Singapore on Thursday and faces a prison sentence of up to seven years, as well as a fine of up to $50,000. "On 14 February 2025 at about 7.20pm, the police were alerted to a social media post containing a threat to blow up an aircraft," read a statement from the Singapore Police Force. "Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the man within an hour of the post and confirmed that he was onboard a flight bound for Abu Dhabi." The aircraft, which was preparing for take-off, was recalled to the terminal at Changi Airport where Mr Shah was then arrested. Police said their investigations showed he had written, 'No one here knows I'm going to blow the plane up', on his social media account, after he had boarded the aircraft. The police said the man was found to have no means to carry out his threat, with no dangerous items in his possession. In the past year, India has been hit with a wave of hoax bomb threats, including on flights to the Gulf, and elsewhere. None were found to be viable, but the disruption is estimated to have cost millions of dollars.

Turbulence Triggers Emergency Landing for Ryanair Jet in Bavaria

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai A Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan was forced to make an emergency landing at Memmingen Airport in southern Germany on Wednesday evening after encountering severe turbulence that injured nine people on board. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carrying 179 passengers and six crew members, was en route to Milan Malpensa Airport when it flew into a violent storm system over Bavaria around 8:30 p.m. local time. The turbulence was so intense that passengers were thrown against the cabin ceiling, with several sustaining injuries ranging from bruises to head trauma. ADVERTISEMENT Among the injured were eight passengers and one crew member. Three individuals, including a woman with a head injury and her two-year-old child who suffered bruises, were transported to a local hospital in Memmingen for further treatment. The remaining injured received medical attention on-site and were released. Emergency services evaluated all passengers and crew as a precautionary measure. Passengers described the ordeal as terrifying, with one individual recounting that the plane tilted sharply and people were hurled into the air without warning. The sudden onset of turbulence left many in shock, and some reported that there had been no prior announcement from the cockpit about the impending rough air. The aircraft landed safely at Memmingen Airport at 8:44 p.m., where emergency responders were on standby. Due to the severity of the storm and the condition of the aircraft, authorities did not permit the plane to continue its journey. Ryanair arranged for alternative transportation, including buses, to carry passengers the remaining 380 kilometers to Milan. The German Weather Service indicated that the turbulence was likely caused by a supercell storm—a powerful and rotating thunderstorm capable of producing severe weather phenomena such as tornadoes and large hail. The DWD issued warnings for further storms in the region, with expectations of hail, strong winds, and heavy rain. In related incidents, the same storm system caused significant damage in parts of southern Germany. In the Donaustetten district of Ulm, strong winds tore roofs off multiple row houses, rendering them uninhabitable. Fire officials suspect a small tornado or waterspout caused the damage. No injuries were reported in that incident. Emergency services responded to numerous calls about fallen trees and flooded basements across the region.
