Cape Town announces a 7-hour power outage to affect these areas
The City of Cape Town has announced a scheduled power outage on Thursday, 5 June, from 8:30 to 16:00. The outage will impact parts of Manenberg and The Downs and allow critical maintenance on the City's electrical infrastructure.
According to the City, this planned work is necessary to ensure the reliability of the electricity supply in the future.
'The work will be carried out from 8:30 to 16:00, if all goes to plan,' said the city in a statement.
The areas affected by the power outage have been outlined on a map accessible via the City's official link: https://bit.ly/3Hc9Dda. Residents must review the map to confirm whether their homes will be affected.
Residents in the impacted areas are strongly encouraged to take precautionary steps during the maintenance period.
'The electricity supply could be restored at any time, and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned maintenance work,' warned the city.
To protect appliances and avoid power surge damage when electricity is restored, households should switch off sensitive equipment before the power outage begins.
The City's call centre will remain available for any outage-related queries at 0860 103 089.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the City expressed gratitude for the public's patience.
'The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding,' the statement concluded.
The power outage is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade Cape Town's power infrastructure to reduce unplanned outages in the long run.

South Africa's Lerato Makua looking to show readiness to step onto the biggest stage again after injury, by shining at the Rugby Africa Women's Cup in Madagascar. For Springbok Women's assistant coach Franzel September, the forthcoming Rugby Africa Women's Cup is vital preparation for the World Cup, not just an unwelcome distraction on the road to the showpiece in England in August and September. It is also an opportunity for those on the fringes of selection to make a late push for inclusion in the World Cup squad. The Springboks jet off to Madagascar tomorrow to take part in the tournament at Stade Makis in Antananarivo that also features the hosts, Uganda and Kenya. The South African women open the tournament with a match against Uganda in Saturday. "This is all part of our prep for the World Cup, this is our next stop," September said. "In the last few years that we've travelled to Madgascar it wasn't easy – an away game is never easy – but we try to stick to what works for us. "It will always be a challenge playing in Africa. The conditions are different. I can remember that you need to travel about 20 or 30 minutes to get to the playing field so it's always a challenge. But we're up for the challenge because we know that we need to get past that. So it's important for us to stay glued to our systems."
