Escaped Immigration detainee Paea Teu arrested for alleged stabbing and assault of border workers on way to airport
An immigration detainee who allegedly stabbed a Border Force officer in the neck and assaulted another after escaping a vehicle en route to Sydney Airport has been arrested.
Tongan national Paea Teu, aged 28, was being taken from Villawood Immigration Detention Centre to the airport to be deported on Thursday when he allegedly attacked two men who were transporting him.
Police will allege Mr Teu stabbed a 54-year-old male in the neck and cheek and assaulted a 36-year-old male, a NSW Police statement said.
The injured men were treated at Westmead Hospital.
The 28-year-old escaped after the alleged attack as the van travelled along James Ruse Drive in Clyde, and police were called to the scene about 3.40am that morning.
A major search operation was launched under Strike Force Cobra to locate the detainee as police issued a warrant for his arrest.
Police were then called to Eschol Park Drive in the south-west Sydney suburb of Eschol Park about 9.40pm on Friday night after reports Mr Teu was spotted.
He was arrested a short time later on Ballantrae Drive in nearby St Andrews and taken to Campbeltown Police Station.
A 24-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene and taken to the police station.
Police inquiries are ongoing.
Police had established a perimeter around a home on Duncansby Crescent in St Andrews on Friday afternoon after information suggested Mr Teu was there, but he was not found inside.

Bodies found in granny flat: investigation under way into 'suspicious' deaths
Investigators have descended on a leafy, suburban street after two bodies were discovered in a backyard granny flat. The bodies were discovered at 9.30pm on June 11 in the Cannons Parade flat in Forestville on Sydney's Northern Beaches after a friend of the deceased asked police to check on the couple. A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, and a woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, were found at the flat, police said. They are yet to be formally identified. Two bodies found at Sydney Northern Beaches granny flat in Forestville
A couple found dead in a granny flat in northern Sydney may have died in a murder-suicide, with police probing a potential history of domestic violence in Queensland. The two bodies were found in the home at a property on Cannons Parade in Forestville on Wednesday night. Speaking to media, Detective Superintendent John Duncan said the pair had lacerations on their bodies. The woman is believed to be in her late 50s and the man in his late-40s. 'Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended and found the bodies of a man – believed to be aged in his 40s – and a woman – believed to be aged in her 50s – in a granny flat at the rear of the property,' a police spokesperson said. 'The bodies are yet to be formally identified.' 'Police established a crime scene and inquiries have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.' Property records show the granny flat was listed for rent in late October. Police seized a white ute from out the front of the property on Wednesday night, with Nine reporting the car had Queensland licence plates. The two-storey granny flat is behind a five-bedroom, three-storey home, and next to a large pool and lawn.
