'Kimmel' Guest Host Diego Luna Hits Trump With Frank Reminder Of 1 Huge Failure

'Kimmel' Guest Host Diego Luna Hits Trump With Frank Reminder Of 1 Huge Failure

Yahoo5 hours ago

Actor Diego Luna wrapped up his week as guest host of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' with a reminder of how important comedy is in an era that's seen a rise in authoritarian leaders such as President Donald Trump.
'There are many ways to push back, and one way is by making fun of them every night, like Jimmy does,' the 'Andor' star said. 'Using comedy to defend freedom. They don't like that shit.'
Luna said the media has been focusing on the differences between the United States and his home country, Mexico, but that he wanted to focus on what connects the two nations.
'We shouldn't let our cultural exchange be divided by borders, by ignorance, by fear, or a wall built by your president,' he said, then couldn't help but add: 'That he paid for, by the way.'
Trump not only made a border wall a key promise of his first presidential campaign, but insisted repeatedly and for years that Mexico would pay for it.
Mexico did not pay for the wall.
U.S. taxpayers did, ponying up a reported $15 billion for it during Trump's first term ― including sections so poorly built they blew over in heavy winds, and some that could be bypassed with a $5 makeshift ladder.

Rick Hurst, ‘The Dukes of Hazzard' star, dead at 79

Actor Rick Hurst, best known for playing Deputy Cletus Hogg in the hit sitcom 'The Dukes of Hazzard,' has died at age 79. His death was confirmed by Ben Jones, his co-star on the show, who posted a message on the Facebook page of the Cooter's Place museum, which is dedicated to the show, on Thursday. 'It doesn't seem right that Rick Hurst passed away this afternoon. When something so unexpected happens, it is 'harder to process,' as the current expression goes,' wrote Jones. 'I have known Rick for over 45 years and there wasn't a minute of that time that he didn't leave me smiling or laughing. Sure he was a professional comedian, but mostly he just had a heart as big as Texas,' he added. 'He was a fine actor, a splendid comic, and a wonderfully supportive colleague,' said Jones, who recalled how 'everything clicked' when Hurst joined the 'Dukes of Hazzard' cast. 'He fit right in and never stopped making people smile until this afternoon. And since the Dukes is still playing all over the planet, he will continue to make us laugh!' he wrote. 'I don't know about y'all but I believe in an afterlife, and I can see Rick up there in Heaven with Jimmy Best and Sorrell Booke and Denver Pyle, putting on the funniest show inside those Pearly Gates,' he said, referring to other 'Dukes of Hazzard' cast members who have died. 'Rest in Peace, old friend!' added Jones. Hurst had some success early in his acting career, including appearing in 24 episodes of TV series 'On the Rocks' from 1975 to 1976, but it was 'The Dukes of Hazzard,' which follows the fast-driving Duke brothers as they attempt to outrun the authorities in the fictional Hazzard County, that made him a household name. Hurst appeared in 55 episodes of the CBS series from 1979 to 1982, before leaving to appear in 'Amanda's,' a US remake of the popular British TV series 'Fawlty Towers.' In the decades that followed, he appeared in various TV shows and movies, making his last appearance in a TV short called 'B My Guest' in 2016.

‘I am truly sorry': Big Isle police chief apologizes for attempted Oʻahu transition

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi Police Department Chief Ben Moszkowicz said he is committed to serving the Orchid Isle and will not apply to be chief at any other police department. Moszkowicz's statement comes after he had previously submitted his resignation at the Hawaiʻi Island police department so he could apply to be the interim chief of the Honolulu Police Department. Leadership in limbo among Hawaiʻi police departments While Moszkowicz had the backing of Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi for the role, the police commission appointed Deputy Chief Rade Vanic to the interim chief role. Following Vanic's appointment, Moszkowicz withdrew his resignation from the Hawaiʻi Island police department.'After careful reflection and consideration, I made some decisions earlier this month that I now realize were premature. For that, I am truly sorry,' Moszkowicz said in a statement. 'I deeply regret that my actions over the past few weeks have caused pain and confusion for so many people. I take full responsibility for my decisions and actions, and I hope to demonstrate through my actions that I remain fully committed to our shared future.' He also went on to reiterate his 'long-term commitment' to remain in service to the Orchid Isle.
