Maharashtra reports 76 new Covid-19 cases, active case tally at 425
Maharashtra recorded 76 new Covid-19 cases, according to the state public health department. The total number of cases reported in the state since January 1 has now reached 597.
There are currently 425 active Covid-19 patients in the state, while 165 patients have recovered. Since January, seven patients have passed away, six of whom had underlying health conditions. Among the new cases, 27 were reported in Mumbai, 21 in Pune, 12 in Thane Municipal Corporation areas, eight in Kalyan Municipal Corporation, four in Navi Mumbai, one each in Kolhapur and Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporations, and two in Raigad district.
The public health department reported that since January 2025, Mumbai has accounted for 379 cases. Of these, one case was reported in January and February each, none in March, four in April, and 373 in May. A total of 9,592 Covid-19 tests have been conducted across the state since January. Officials confirmed that all recovered patients had only mild infections.
According to official data, Delhi had 104 active Covid-19 cases as of Monday. Health officials reported that 24 patients had recovered over the past week.
In response, the Delhi government issued an advisory to hospitals last week, instructing them to ensure the availability of beds, medications, and oxygen.
As of May 29, Karnataka's health department reported 148 active Covid-19 cases, with 42 new cases detected on Thursday. A total of 513 tests were conducted on the same day, comprising 463 RT-PCR tests and 50 RATs. The positivity rate was 8.18 per cent, while the fatality rate stood at 2.3 per cent.
Earlier today, the chief minister of Kerala stated that there were 727 active Covid-19 cases in the state, with the majority concentrated in the districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha.

Minister: Post summer vacation, schools to follow Covid norms
1 2 Bhubaneswar: In view of the rising Covid-19 cases, school and mass education minister Nityananda Gond said the state govt will enforce safety protocols in schools when they reopen later this month after the summer vacation. As many as 23 Covid cases have been recorded in Odisha in the last month (as of Wednesday). Gond said students and teachers need to remain cautious and alert. "All students and teachers will be asked to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols when schools resume. The health and safety of the children is our top priority," Gond told media persons on Thursday. The school and mass education department will strictly follow the guidelines of the health department to ensure the safety of children. "Students and teachers will be asked to wear masks and those suffering from cold and cough or feeling unwell will be asked not to come to school. Teachers will be sensitised on Covid-19 protocols and safety guidelines," Gond said. The department will issue guidelines to all district education officers in the state soon to ensure strict adherence to hygiene protocols.

Seven more test positive for Covid-19 in city, active cases touch 39
Surat/Vadodara: Seven more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) area on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases to 89, with 39 active cases. Seven are hospitalised, of whom two require oxygen support. Among the newly infected is a 77-year-old retired male from Vesu with a history of high blood pressure, currently under home isolation care. A 71-year-old homemaker from Ghoddod Road, who has both thyroid and blood pressure issues, is also being treated at home and is stable. A 38-year-old female judge from Athwalines, who recently returned from Dwarka on May 25, tested positive. She is under home isolation and responding well to treatment. Other cases include a 24-year-old employed male from Lal Darwaja with a thyroid condition, a 52-year-old diabetic male from Palanpur Jakatanaka, a 40-year-old homemaker from Varachha who returned from Uttar Pradesh on May 25, and a 56-year-old diabetic female social worker from Parle Point who returned from Kolhapur on June 1. As per govt protocol, all patients' samples have been sent to the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC), Gandhinagar, for genome sequencing to detect any emerging variants. In Vadodara city, six Covid-19 cases were reported in the 24 hours ending Thursday evening — the first in the ongoing wave. All patients showed flu-like symptoms and are under home isolation. According to sources, the infections are sub-variants of the Omicron strain, with low hospitalisation rates. Mistry added that testing and isolation facilities are available at SSG Hospital and GMERS Hospital, Gotri. Both hospitals are equipped with oxygen support, ICU, and ventilators.
