Ashanti performs onstage during the 2025 BET Awards at Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los ... More Angeles, California.
The 2025 BET Awards premiered live on Monday, June 9 at 8 p.m. ET. The star-studded 25th anniversary of "Culture's Biggest Night' was hosted by Kevin Hart.
The night is a big one for Kendrick Lamar, who led the pack in nominations with an impressive ten. Behind him, GloRilla, Future, Drake and Docehii were all nominated for six awards each. Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin were also all honored with BET's Ultimate Icon Award.
One of the best parts of the show was the performances. Even the carpet had performances by Ying Yang Twins, Lil' Kim, Mario and more. During the show, Lil Wayne, GloRilla, Teyana Taylor, Playboi Carti, and Leon Thomas graced the stage to perform.
Ashanti took the stage for the first performance in a celebration of the 25th anniversary of 106 & Park. The singer performed a medley of "Happy," "Rock wit U (Awww Baby)," and "Foolish." The over 20-minute tribute featured many other musicians, including Amerie, Keyshia Cole, Mya, T.I., B2K and Bow Wow.
The segment was pure nostalgia, especially for those who are missing their 106 & Park days. Some performances were stronger than others, but since each performance is very short, it never gives you a second to check out. The production is high, and just how many numbers were put on is impressive in its own right. Taken all together, it all really works.
Rakim and Mariah Carey perform onstage during the 2025 BET Awards
DJ D-Nice started the performance by playing some of Mariah Carey's biggest hits, including 'Dreamlover,' 'Honey, 'Obsessed' and 'Heartbreaker.' The icon then appeared to debut the live version of her new single 'Type Dangerous.' Anderson .Paak joined on drums and rapper Rakim, whose song 'Eric B. Is President' is interpolated on the single, also joined on stage. Carey sounds great, but there is something low-energy about her performance.
Lil Wayne proved that he's still got it with two songs. The rapper started with a new song, 'Welcome to Tha Carter' off of his most recent Tha Carter 6, surrounded by a gospel choir. He then transitioned into his 2008 classic 'A Milli' from Tha Carter III. Lil Wayne delivered a high-energy performance, especially after transitioning to the second song, which was pure fun.
GloRilla and Keyshia Cole Turn Up The Heat
GloRilla took the stage to perform "Let Her Cook.' It is an excellent number, complete with impressive tap dancing and pyrotechnics. GloRilla was joined by Keyshia Cole to debut 'Typa,' a new song that samples Cole's classic 'Love.'
Craig Robinson emceed a medley of some of Jamie Foxx's biggest hits, performed by Teddy Riley, Babyface, Ludacris, Jennifer Hudson and Tank. This is such a great performance. Ludacris and Hudson especially shine. Even Foxx himself in the audience is stunned by Hudson's rendition of 'I Got a Woman.' Foxx got emotional before T-Pain, Dougie Fresh and Teddy Riley appeared to play 'Blame It.' If you are going to watch one performance of the night, this is certainly a contender.
While Teyana Taylor announced she was retiring from music in 2020, she took the stage to sing "Fire Girl" and "Long Time!" It is a dramatic performance that starts with Taylor clad in white high above the stage, holding flaming roses. She later emerges in a futuristic scene complete with robotic dancers. There is a lot happening in this performance, but the visuals are incredibly cool. It is slick with a really high production value.
Elmiene sang 'Crystal Tears.' The emerging British singer brought a lot of heart and emotion to the performance. It isn't as big as some of the other performances of the night, but it doesn't need to be, and it isn't trying to be.
Tyler Perry introduced the performance before Ledisi emerged to deliver a powerful yet understated performance. It is a gorgeous song that is punctuated by projected visuals of Black Women. Ledisi also sounds amazing during the song.
Miles Canton, Luke James and Lucky Daye Give sing 'Secret Garden' as a tribute to Quincy Jones. It is very nice and they sound great, but it feels short. There have been other tributes to Quincy Jones at award shows this year (notably the Grammys), and this one feels small in comparison.
Leon Thomas takes the stage looking like a rock star to sing the slow jam 'Mutt.' The performance is smooth and sexy before getting a little more rock and roll. It likely won't be the standout of the night, but it is a delightful performance that has the audience dancing in their seats.
In a tribute to Roberta Flack, Andra Day performed 'Killing Me Softly' for the In Memoriam segment. She sounds absolutely amazing, and it is very emotional.
Snoop Dogg accepted the Ultimate Icon Award before performing some of his greatest hits, including "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang!" and 'The Next Episode.' He closed out the performance with Warren G and Kurupt for "Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)." The performance was good, but it received some backlash on social media as the rapper recently performed for Donald Trump's inauguration.
Brittney Spencer sang "No More Rain' as a beautiful tribute to Angie Stone. It is a lovely performance made by Spencer's vocals. While it is a rather short performance, it is a very sweet one.
Playboi Carti took the stage to sing his hits 'Like Weezy' and 'Rather Lie.' It is, at times, a little hard to listen to on YouTube due to the platform's bleeping of expletives, but it is still a very energetic and fun performance.
Muni Long, Jamal Roberts, Kirk Franklin, and Tamar Braxton perform onstage during the 2025 BET ... More Awards
Kirk Franklin performed a medley of gospel hits, including "Silver and Gold," "Do It Again" and "Stomp.' He was joined by Tamar Braxton, Jamal Roberts and Muni Long. This performance is a must-watch even for non-gospel fans. It's a powerhouse number with amazing vocals and infectious energy. From the unique take on a 'gospel choir' to the church visuals, this performance is deeply fresh. It had the audience dancing in the aisles, and for good reason. If you are going to watch one performance of the night, make it this one.

Sabrina Carpenter's New Man's Best Friend Album Cover Has Some Fans Clutching Their Pearls

We all know by now that Miss Sabrina Carpenter isn't a stranger to a risqué moment or two. The US pop star has soared through the charts and shot to main girl pop status over the past few years, thanks to her 2024 album Short N' Sweet, which featured the number one hits Espresso, Please Please Please and Taste. Since the album's release, Sabrina has gone viral on more than one occasion thanks to her cheeky on-stage innuendos, from her racy outfits and choreo to mimicking a different sexual position each night of her most recent tour during the song Juno. Her NSFW antics even sparked a flurry of Ofcom complaints this year in light of her suggestive Brit Awards performance, during which she suggestively crouched down in front of a winking backup dancer (who happened to be dressed as a royal guard). Now, she seems to have split the internet right down the middle after releasing the cover for her new album Man's Best Friend, which follows the new single Manchild. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sabrina Carpenter (@sabrinacarpenter) The cover depicts Sabrina on her knees in a black mini dress and a pair of stilettos, while a man just out of frame grips strands of her long blonde hair. A second picture shared with the announcement shows the album tiel engraved onto a baby blue dog collar. While Sabrina has long embraced her sexuality and championed female empowerment, some feel this cover doesn't quite land right, especially in the current political climate, with some worrying the (presumably satirical) message could get lost in the mix. I understand that sabrina carpenter's new album cover is supposed to be a satirical/tongue in cheek way to highlight how poorly women are treated by men in society but the men who are going to see and engage with it are too stupid and porn pilled to extract that nuance from it — e (@ninasayerss) June 11, 2025 Pretending to be this hyper-aware, feminist, anti-male figure, while your entire artistic identity still revolves around seeking male approval and being desirable to them is… a choice! — 𝐁𝐄𝐘𝐒𝐔𝐒🇲🇦 (@mileycyrusvibez) June 11, 2025 For someone who keeps calling men PIGS she keeps degrading herself to appeal the male gaze — eri˚❀*·ꕤ. (@eternalcumslimz) June 11, 2025 girl the cover. . . why are we doing things for the male gaze in 2025 — 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢 | 🕊️ (@positionsmafiaa) June 11, 2025 The cover? This is weird and you can't convince me otherwise… — 💕 (@_jazllyn) June 11, 2025 I'm sorry this feels like it's very rushed + the album cover is so degrading…… — HARRYS HOUSE (@HARRYSHOUSE3) June 11, 2025 As a woman myself, claiming sabrina carpenter is singlehandedly setting the entire female population back decades is over the top. That being said, this cover definitely doesn't give what she thinks it gives, hopefully she'll change it — 🫧 (@yunjeanpink) June 12, 2025 the message sabrina is trying to convey is that men treat women like their pets (etc) but the cover doesn't necessarily help that argument due to the fact that the general public is dumb and unable to comprehend satire — head taybrina⸆⸉ 合 🩰 (@headtaybrina) June 11, 2025 i get the message shes trying to send but this album cover does not work, media literacy is dead people are not going to look at this album cover and see the message of men treat women like pets, vast majority of people will see this as perpetuating that — Valerie 𖹭 (@RosalinaIsSilly) June 12, 2025 However, others feel this response is maybe a bit of an overreaction – and even suggested that the cover was a clear tongue-in-cheek critique of the very thing people claimed it was glorifying. It's going to be her taking control of the 'men use women as objects' narrative. Every one of her songs is her being in control. It's supposed to be ironic. I'm here for it. — just a girl💚🦋 (@courtlynn3695) June 11, 2025 love it. also illustrates that media literacy is dead because it is SO obviously ironic — sam ౨ৎ gelphie brainrot (@glindalesbo) June 12, 2025 how life feels when you realize sabrina carpenter can do whatever she wants with her album covers and concepts without it being "for girls" or "for the male gaze" because she is a human being and not a political pamphlet — Adri🇻🇪 (@Adr74n) June 11, 2025 sabrina carpenter haven't been killing man in all of her music videos the past 3 years for yall to switch on her and not understand a fucking album cover. grow a brain. — ANTO (@929SELFISH) June 11, 2025 I'm seeing a lot of discourse about Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover… for those of you who may lack critical thinking skills, the cover is clearly satirical with a deeper meaning, portraying how the public views her, believing she is just for the male gaze. — Wicked News Hub (@wickednewshub) June 11, 2025 in honor of sabrina carpenter's new album i would like to remind everyone of satirenounthe use of humour to attack a person, an idea or behaviour that you think is bad or sillyparodynouna piece of writing, speech or music that copies the style of something in a funny way — ᯓᡣ𐭩 (@casualbrina) June 11, 2025 Ya'll takes on Sabrina Carpenter new album are so stupid & nothing about is male centered when the first damn single is calling men stupid — 🥀 (@gorqeousaly) June 11, 2025 the fact that some of y'all do not get that the cover is satire when the main single is called MANCHILD?? i can only pray for them to open the schools. — mona lisa⁷ (@ARISOUTRO) June 12, 2025 sabrina carpenter been doing s x positions on stage but this album cover is the breaking point for yal…let the girl be — ✰kayla✰ (@neorvng) June 12, 2025 people can't handle art based on a concept that chat GPT couldn't generate for them — no (@saturnxoi) June 12, 2025 i think the song is gonna come out, the meaning behind it will be more clear and then everyone complaining is gonna look stupid — ari💗 (@JHSCLTR) June 12, 2025 Whether or not the noise has reached Sabrina yet, it's safe to say she probably won't be perturbed by the naysayers. Following her Brits performance this year some viewers accused her of 'oversexualising herself'. In response, Sabrina captioned a picture from the night, 'I now know what watershed is!!!!', referring to the time of the day when TV programmes which could be unsuitable for children can be broadcast, which is 9pm in the UK. Addressing the wider backlash she has faced in her career, she told Time in a 2024 interview: 'You'll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing. And to that I just say, don't come to the show and that's OK. 'It's unfortunate that it's ever been something to criticise, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it's nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that's what you've got to do.' Sabrina's seventh album Man's Best Friend is due out on 29 August 2025, with the pop star writing on Instagram that she 'can't wait for it to be yours'. Manchild – heavily rumoured to allude to her relationship with Barry Keoghan – is also on track to land the former Disney star her fourth UK number one. Rodgers marks first day with Steelers by revealing secret wedding

Aaron Rodgers joined the Steelers for the start of their mandatory mini-camp on Tuesday [Reuters] New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has revealed he had a secret wedding earlier this year. The NFL's four-time Most Valuable Player spent months contemplating his future before deciding to sign a one-year deal with the Steelers. Advertisement Rodgers signed his contract on Saturday and in a picture posted by the team on social media, he had a black band on his wedding ring finger. The 41-year-old held a news conference on Tuesday after spending his first day training with the Steelers and one of the last questions was about the ring. "Yeah, it's a wedding ring," said Rodgers. Asked how long he's been married, he added: "It's been a couple of months." Rodgers was released after a disappointing second season with the New York Jets, becoming a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career. He had visited the Steelers and reportedly received an offer from the New York Giants, but in April, Rodgers said that he was "open to anything", including retirement. Advertisement The 2011 Super Bowl winner previously said that he delayed his decision because of personal reasons and, earlier in Tuesday's news conference, he said: "I was dealing with a lot of things in my personal life. "Some things improved a little bit, where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys. "I didn't want to short-change the guys and be signed but be elsewhere mentally or physically. Until I could be here and be all in, I needed to take care of my business." Who is Aaron Rodgers' wife? Rodgers, who spent the first 18 years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, has had a number of high-profile partners during his NFL career. Advertisement But he has not been married previously and did not share any further information about his wife on Tuesday. Speaking to The Pat McAfee Show in December, he said he had a girlfriend named Brittani while discussing Christmas shopping. When one of the co-hosts joked about whether it was singer Britney Spears, Rodgers replied: "Not Britney Spears, no. This is Brittani with an 'i'." Speaking to Pat McAfee again in April, Rodgers added that he is "in a serious relationship". "I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention," he added. "I have personal commitments I made, not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me." Advertisement It now seems that one of those commitments was a wedding, perhaps even a honeymoon too. What else did Rodgers say on first day? After visiting the Steelers, Rodgers has said that he remained in regular contact with head coach Mike Tomlin before informing him of his decision. The 53-year-old is the NFL's longest-serving current head coach having been in charge at Pittsburgh since 2007. He led the franchise to a sixth Super Bowl win in 2009, before losing the big game to Rodgers' Packers in 2011, and the Steelers have not had a losing record in Tomlin's 18 seasons in charge. Asked why he chose Pittsburgh, Rodgers said: "It starts with Mike Tomlin. I've been a fan of his for a long time. Advertisement "The rapport that fell in between me and Mike made it to where, as I was going through my personal stuff, that there wasn't any other option for me. It was here or not play [retire]." Only Peyton Manning (five) has been named the NFL MVP more times than Rodgers, yet a second Super Bowl win has eluded him. Asked what a Super Bowl win with Pittsburgh would mean, Rodgers said: "It'd mean a seventh championship for the city. That'd be great. "I have a lot that motivates me, but this is about the love for the game - a game that has given me so much over the years - and making peace with a nice, long career."
