'Beautiful' mum hacked to death by sick ex before his chilling admission

"When asked about what had happened, the offender stated, 'I can't remember anything about it'. He then placed his hands over his face and began crying."
A man arrested for murdering the girlfriend he "loved" told a nurse of how he "hacked" her to death, a court heard. Corey Dryden, 31, made the admission during a mental health assessment following the death of his partner Megan Hughes on February 7, 2025.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Dryden stabbed the mother of two 27 times during an assault at their home in Windram Road, Chirnside, in Berwickshire.

The court heard how police arrested him soon after the deadly assault and took him into custody. Prosecutor Tracey Brown told judge Lord Harrower that Dryden told police officers that he couldn't remember what he had done to his loved one.

The court also heard how he started weeping during the police interview. He also told detectives: 'I did really love her you know'. Ms Brown told the court that officers had Dryden assessed by mental health professionals whilst he was in detention.
She added: "During a mental health assessment which was being carried out by a nurse, the offender was asked how he would manage if he was released. He was asked how he would access services if he was released on bail.
"The offender replied, 'with all due respect I'm not getting released' and also said "that's unlikely cause I'm going to plead guilty 'cos I hacked my girlfriend to death'."
The story emerged on Friday morning after Dryden, also of Chirnside, pleaded guilty to murdering Ms Hughes by repeatedly striking her on the head and body with a knife.
The charge also contained details of how Dryden also repeatedly struck his partner on the head and body with a hammer "or a similar object" during the attack.

Ms Brown told the court that the pair had got together in February 2024 - they had known each other since childhood. Ms Hughes, who was also 31, had two children from a previous relationship and they started living with each other in July 2024.
The court heard how Dryden was fined £300 in December 2024 at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on a charge of threatening and abusive behaviour.

On that occasion, Dryden admitted to an incident in a pub close to their home in which he shouted and swore at Ms Hughes and called her a 's**g'.
On the day before Dryden murdered his partner, he sent text messages to friends and loved ones. Ms Brown told the court that these messages showed that Dryden was "struggling to manage his emotions within the context of the relationship."
The court heard that a text sent to a friend read: "I'm gonna do time wish I was single." Another read: "Tryin' not to go mental speak soon bro'."

Ms Brown said that at approximately 2.15am on February 9, 2025, a neighbour of the couple's was awoken by loud banging coming from their home.
Ms Brown added: "The neighbour then heard the deceased repeatedly shout, 'please help me'. She also heard the deceased scream, and the accused say, 'shut up'. The neighbour was about to call 999 but things then quietened down."
The court heard that just after 4.30am, Dryden phoned 999. The offender spoke to a police officer during the call and said that his partner had stabbed herself after she had attacked him with a hammer.

Ms Brown added: "He said that he had defended himself but had then blacked out. He said that the attack had occurred about an hour and a half before.
"He requested that an ambulance attend but informed the police officer that the deceased was dead. He sounded under the influence with slurred speech."

Police then turned up at their home. Officers who responded found Ms Hughes lying on the floor of an upstairs bedroom. She had a large kitchen knife in her right hand which was raised above her head.
The court heard how officers started doing CPR but paramedics later pronounced her dead. He was later taken to St Leonard's police station in Edinburgh and was interviewed by police.
Ms Brown told the court: "During the interview, the offender spoke freely throughout. He stated that in the past three months, the offender and the deceased's relationship had not been good. He explained that she hated him, and that they argued every day.

"He said that on the night of the murder they had each drunk approximately a bottle and a half of wine. The offender said that was taking pain killers for his leg and that he had also recently had valium that had not been prescribed by a doctor.
" The offender stated that they had been within the bedroom and that the deceased had been wearing a bra and pants. He explained that they had argued when he had called her a 'lazy s**t'.

"He claimed that she had swung a hammer at him, which he had blocked with his crutch; that he had disarmed the deceased of the hammer and had struck her on the head with it.
"The offender said that he did not know how many times he had struck the deceased with the hammer." Ms Brown also said he made other admissions during the interview.
She added: "He admitted that he had then stabbed her with a twelve-inch silver kitchen knife and that he had killed her. He claimed that he had 'blanked out' for an unknown period of time.

"When asked about what had happened, the offender stated, 'I can't remember anything about it'. He then placed his hands over his face and began crying. He then stated, 'it was like I was possessed'.
"When asked if he remembered anything else the accused Dryden paused and stated 'well I wish I never started drinking '. He then stated, 'I did really love her you know' and then began crying again."

The court heard that pathologists carried out a post mortem on Ms Hughes's body on February 10, 2025. Ms Brown said the cause of the victim's death was recorded as being stab wounds to the chest and neck.
The advocate depute added: "The combination of the injuries sustained by the lungs, pulmonary vasculature and left jugular vein, and the associated significant blood loss, would have resulted in cardiovascular and respiratory compromise, ultimately leading to cardiac arrest and death."
Meanwhile, forensic scientists found DNA from the deceased on the top of the blade taken by the police from the scene. Defence advocate Lili Prais KC said she'd reserve her mitigation until after the court had obtained a report on her client's background. Lord Harrower deferred sentence to obtain a background report. He told Dryden: "You will be remanded in custody."

Man sentenced after brutal machete murder bid in Glasgow

Sean Gilhooley, 29, was in a four-strong mob who ambushed Raymond Dyer in broad daylight in Glasgow's Drumchapel on March 23, 2024. Dyer, 35, was left for dead by the laughing assailants after he was struck with machetes, swords and a baseball bat. He was discovered stricken in the street by his mother. Dyer survived the hit bid, despite his horrific injuries. Gilhooley was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow, having earlier pleaded guilty to an attempted murder charge. As well as the jail term, he will also be supervised for a further three years on his release. Gilhooley had previously been jailed for five years in 2017 for discharging a shotgun. Prosecutors revealed in court how Gilhooley had teamed up with others that morning, including Jordan Steele, who has since passed away. Advocate depute Eilidh Robertson stated Steele - before his death on May 4, 2024 - was said to be "extensively documented as being involved in serious and organised crime during his life". Steele was known to Dyer and his mother, Jacqueline. Miss Robertson said: "It is not clear what caused this incident, but there appears to be a suggestion that Raymond Dyer had in some way wronged local drug dealers who Steele controlled." The court heard Dyer had left his home that morning and appeared "worried". He had been in a local shop and asked someone to look outside to check if there was a car following him. Dyer went on to leave before a grey 4x4 vehicle sped to catch him. READ NEXT: Four men leapt out, clutching weapons and turned on Dyer even after he had fallen to the ground from the vicious blows. It was Dyer's mother who discovered her badly injured son. He groaned: "Mum, the blood is pumping out of my back." The grey SUV then pulled up beside them again. Steele was said to be driving and Gilhooley was the front seat passenger. The mum stated Steele shouted: "You are getting done next." Another witness described the woman "screaming and begging them to leave". Miss Robertson: "This person did not see the driver, but the window behind was down. "The male in that seat leaned out the window and he was holding a long knife, like a sword. "The witness could hear people laughing in the car." The court heard Dyer suffered "significant" injuries to his legs and hands. Other wounds included one described as "very deep" on his chest. He also had a collapsed lung. Miss Robertson: "At no time, did he say how he came by these injuries." The hearing was told Dyer's life had been in danger had he not been treated in time. He has been left with restricted movement in his hands and left leg. The 4x4 driven during the attack was traced by police. It was found to be a grey Volkswagen Tiguan linked to Steele. He had been captured on CCTV driving it away from a local McDonald's days after the murder bid. The vehicle was discovered at an address in Drumchapel on April 10. Gilhooley's DNA was later traced in the SUV. The advocate depute said the Crown cannot say for definite who wielded what weapon, although Gilhooley stated he had been armed with the baseball bat. Miss Robertson added Gilhooley's guilty plea was accepted on basis that he had been part of a "concerted attack" on Dyer with others. Lady Drummond cut the prison term from 10 years due to the thug admitting to the crime. The judge told him: "I am satisfied having regard to your record, the circumstances of the offence and the (social work) report that an extended sentence is necessary to protect the public from serious harm from you."

P Diddy and son Justin accused of rape in fresh lawsuit as sex-trafficking trial ends

P-Diddy's sex trafficking trial hears defence closing argyments. However, the disgraced music mogul faces a fresh rape accusations in new lawsuit. P Diddy and his son, Justin Combs have been accused of rape in a brand new law suit. The shamed star's current trial, in which he is accused of sex-trafficking, is being presented with te defence's closing arguments today. However, Diddy - real name, Sean Combs - faces fresh allegations, this time, along with his son. As per documents obtained by the Mirror US, a woman from Louisiana claims she connected with Justin, 33, on Snapchat, before she was invited to California where she was told she could further her career in the entertainment industry, reports the Mirror. ‌ She has accused Justin of luring her to his Los Angeles mansion in 2017 to be raped by his father, 55, and two other 'masked men.' ‌ The woman alleges she was offered pills, alcohol and marijuana before the three men arrived at the property, one of whom she claims to believe was Diddy. The rape was said to have lasted several hours. Diddy's lawyer denies the allegations. Diddy's team told the Mirror US, 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed it won't change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason. Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to find the truth, and Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail in court." It comes as the I'll Be Missing You star's bombshell sex trafficking trial nears its end. Prosecutors finished their closing arguments on Thursday after five hours. On Thursday, the prosecution argued to the jury that Combs is the "leader of a criminal enterprise", who used violence and fear in "brutal crimes." ‌ Defence attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told the jury it's important to remember that none of the alleged victims called the police, as the defence's closing arguments began today. Instead, Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs for $33m (£22m), of which she won $20m. The federal case was spurred by that lawsuit, so if Combs wasn't rich, there would be no federal criminal trial, he said. "He's a self-made successful black entrepreneur," he added, saying: "He's built wonderful, sophisticated businesses." ‌ Agnifilo also reminded the jury that Jane - an ex-girlfriend of Combs who testified against him under a pseudonym - is still living in a house that Combs pays for. "Jane came here and testified against him…I don't know what she's doing today, but whatever she's doing it's in a house he paid for. He takes care of people," Agnifilo added. Jessie and D'Lila stood beside the rapper as they sent support for the Diddy during the trial's closing arguments. Early on in the trial, the twins were present to support their father, even sharing a social media post saying, 'The past month has devastated our family. Many have judged both him and us based on accusations, conspiracy theories, and false narratives that have spiralled into absurdity on social media.' Diddy denies any wrongdoing in the federal charges brought against him.
