Speaking on the "Quiet Please!" podcast with hosts Mel Reid and Kira Dixon, the golf influencer opened up about her painful memories from the tournament, which she now refers to as 'like the worst moment of my life.'
Spiranac, who graduated from San Diego State and turned pro in August 2015, had garnered attention for her social media presence, specifically, her posts featuring bold golf outfits. That viral attention translated into an invitation to play in the Dubai Ladies Masters, a high-profile Ladies European Tour (LET) event.

However, according to Spiranac, not everyone believed she belonged there. 'Due to her social media popularity, many believed she got an invitation to the prestigious Dubai Ladies Masters despite it being above her level of play," she shared of people's opinions at the time.
'I ended up going viral and this was back when people weren't going viral all the time and I didn't know how to handle it and my whole life got flipped upside down. I went from having 500 followers to 100,000 followers," Spiranac added.
Spiranac Thought Her Pro Debut Would Be 'Low-Key'

What was meant to be a low-pressure opportunity turned into something far more intense.

'I got this invite to play an LET. I had just turned pro, I had never played golf outside the country. And everyone was like, 'It's low key, don't worry about it," the former gold player added. "No one is going to know if you play well or not.''
That couldn't have been further from the truth. Spiranac said she was immediately thrust into the spotlight, explaining, 'I show up and was doing hours of press, which I wasn't prepared for. I had no training to do this.'
Paige Spiranac Says Pro Golf Debut Turned Brutal

The real hardship, she explained, came from how she was treated by other female players.

'I would say there were a couple of girls who were really supportive and who were nice, but the majority, it was brutal," she continued. "I would go on the range and girls would just scatter. No one wanted to hit next to me.'
Even more troubling were the rumors that followed her. 'There were constant comments like 'I did sexual favors to get this invite,' and I was listening to it, and they would say [it] within earshot of me," she recalled. "It was tough.'

Her on-course performance only added fuel to the fire. Spiranac shot rounds of 77 and 79 and missed the cut.

'Not knowing what I was doing, it was my first pro event, it was really difficult," she explained on the podcast. "I just wanted to be liked and I played so bad. It was horrendous.'
She later acknowledged the optics of her presence at the tournament and how it may have affected her peers. 'You work your a-- off, week in and week out… and here comes me and I just walk on in,' she said. 'I got the new Callaway bag and I had Lululemon that week. I can see why it ruffled some feathers.'
Despite the backlash, Spiranac transformed her viral moment into a wildly successful influencer career. With over 4 million followers on Instagram and 1.6 million on TikTok, she's become one of the most recognizable figures in golf media.

In a 2018 interview with Sports Illustrated, she revealed the extent of her distress at the time. 'I was sitting in the bathroom just balling and was like, 'I don't want to go through this pain, this feel of helplessness. Being alone. Scared,'' she said of her emotional breakdown before the 2015 tournament.
Now known as the 'OG Insta Golf Girl,' Spiranac continues to speak out about the challenges she's faced navigating fame, scrutiny, and the sport she loves. She was also recently featured again as a 'legend' in the magazine's 60th anniversary issue in May 2024.

Red Hot Paige Spiranac Gives U.S. Open Dark Horses, Breaks Down Oakmont
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When it comes to predicting major championships, Paige Spiranac has a better track record than many expert forecasters, at least for the current season. The popular golf influencer correctly predicted the winners of the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship, and she hopes to extend her streak at the US Open. Spiranac shared her US Open predictions on her X account, which has over one million followers. "Cream normally rise to the top in championships like this, so no surprise the favorites are going to be Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau, but if you're looking at some dark horses, I'm liking Harris English and Ben Griffin," she said. "I'm looking for carnage this week and fingers crossed that we actually get an over par winner." There's no question that these four picks are extremely interesting. Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite in any prediction given his recent performance, especially over the past month. During that period, the World No. 1 won three tournaments, including the PGA Championship, his third career major. DeChambeau, for his part, has been second to none in terms of strong results. The reigning U.S. Open champion has a victory in LIV Golf and finished in the top 10 in the first two major championships of this season. In fact, the two-time major champion has finished in the top 10 in five of the last six majors, including one victory and two runner-up finishes. (Photo byfor Sports Illustrated Swimsuit) MoreAs for Spiranac's dark horses, they are certainly two of the hottest players on the PGA Tour right now. English won the Farmers Insurance Open earlier in 2025 and finished second in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow just four weeks ago. Meanwhile, Griffin has won twice in the last six weeks (Zurich Classic and Rocket Mortgage Classic). During that time, he also achieved a top-10 finish at the PGA Championship and a second-place finish at the Memorial Tournament. The surprise in Spiranac's prediction came when she didn't mention Rory McIlroy, who is considered by most forecasters to be one of the top favorites to win the US Open. His most recent results—T47 at the PGA Championship and missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open—likely influenced her omission. As you may recall, McIlroy's results came after the USGA found his competition driver as non-conforming ahead of the PGA Championship. However, he has been seen at the Oakmont Country Club carrying the TaylorMade Qi10 model again, which he used for his early season successes. Shocked parent discovers how Disney World subtly checks kids for lice: ‘That's a creative way to disguise it'
One of parents' worst nightmares is their kid getting lice — but you suspect it in your little ones' head and don't want to do the checking yourself, head over to Disney World where the staff will do the work for you. One Disney parent posted in a now-viral TikTok how those who are staffed by the land of Mickey and Minnie Mouse cleverly go about checking kids' heads for the tiny, wingless insects. Advertisement The mom captioned her video, 'I didn't even realize what they were doing until I rewatched the video. Literally making every moment magical even while checking for lice at bippity boppity boutique.' In the video, the staffer dressed in character as a fairy Godmother kneels behind an adorable little girl and begins parting her hair to check for any signs of the nasty insects. 'I didn't even realize what they were doing until I rewatched the video. Literally making every moment magical even while checking for lice at bippity boppity boutique,' the mom wrote as the caption of her video. Advertisement While doing so, the employee is chatting with the toddler, who is oblivious that her head is being inspected, about Rapunzel's hair. Something that Disney is known for offering to young guests is the ability to get a princess — or knight —makeover, which includes getting hair and makeup done at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Magic Kingdom The parent who posted the video isn't the only one pleasantly surprised by this service. Advertisement 'You know what, I'd rather them check for lice than a surprise after vacation!' one commenter wrote. 'Hopefully no parent takes offense to this because it's not only protecting other children, it's protecting your child from getting it, too,' pointed out someone else. 'That's a sweet and creative way to disguise it,' another person agreed. 'It's not just checking for lice — it's also checking for any rashes, skin issues, cuts/broken skin. Anything that could react to whatever they're putting on ur head. It's for their safety and yours!' a commenter explained. Advertisement Although Disney didn't confirm the lice checking to be true, one could assume that staff at the amusement park use this opportunity to make sure little guests' heads are clean before transforming them into a Disney princess or knight. Go on vacation, get a free lice check. Which doesn't sound like a bad idea, considering an estimated 6 to 12 million US kids between the ages of 3 and 11 years old get lice every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention And if your kid becomes a statistic, olive oil can actually help smother, kill and remove lice eggs from a child's head, according to Northwell Health pediatrician Dr. Lauren Adler Keep in mind that the CDC states that it 'does not have clear scientific evidence' — but if the food product does the trick, more power to it.
