‘Kalki 2898 AD' trivia: When Deepika Padukone embraced motherhood on-screen: ‘Why not carry the baby bump a few more months?'

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Deepika Padukone has never shied away from challenging roles, and in Kalki 2898 AD, she impressed the audiences by taking on the emotionally rich part of a mother—this time, with a twist of sci-fi epicness. Let's take a throwback moment at when Deepika opened up about her character in the movie. Speaking during the pre-release event of the Nag Ashwin directorial in Mumbai, Deepika reflected on portraying a mother in the futuristic world of Kalki, joining a trend that's seen her play mother figures in Jawan and Brahmastra. Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff at Mumbai Airport At the event, actor Rana Daggubati playfully teased Deepika, referencing her real-life pregnancy and the character she plays in the film. 'She is still in character,' he quipped, pointing at her baby bump. To this, Deepika laughed and responded, 'Yeah, I worked on it for three years, so I thought why not carry the baby bump for a few more months.' From Brahmastra to Kalki: Deepika's Maternal Arc Deepika's role in Kalki 2898 AD isn't her first portrayal of a mother. She previously played Amrita, the mother of Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor), in Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, though mostly through flashbacks. Her character held pivotal importance to the film's storyline, which explored the Astraverse mythology. Though her screen time was limited, it set up her presence in the coming parts of the trilogy. In Kalki, her role appears to be even more significant, with much of the film's emotional core centered around her character and her unborn child in a dystopian world. Co-starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani, the film is one of the most anticipated pan-Indian projects of the year. Marching Ahead with Atlee and Allu Arjun Following the buzz of Kalki, Deepika has already locked in her next big project—a sci-fi action adventure tentatively titled AA22XA6, directed by Kollywood sensation Atlee and starring Telugu superstar Allu Arjun. The makers officially welcomed Deepika with a grand announcement video showing Atlee briefing her on the storyline and her role. 'The Queen marches to conquer! Welcome onboard Deepika Padukone,' read the announcement. Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies . Throwback: When Shah Rukh Khan clarified Bauua Singh is nothing like Kamal Haasan's Appu Raja: This film is not about…

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) In a throwback to the time leading up to the release of Zero (2018), Shah Rukh Khan addressed growing comparisons between his character Bauua Singh and Kamal Haasan 's iconic role in 'Appu Raja' (1989). Earlier, responding to speculation after Zero's teaser launch, SRK categorically denied any similarities between the two characters, insisting that the story of Zero goes far beyond physical stature. 'It's About Incompleteness, Not Height' As reported by Peeping Moon when asked whether Bauua Singh shared any traits with Appu Raja, Shah Rukh Khan responded firmly: 'Not at all. This film is not about a vertically-challenged person. It's about incompleteness.' He clarified that while Bauua Singh happens to be short in stature, Zero is a film that delves into human flaws, emotional vulnerabilities, and how individuals find joy in spite of them. He added that the film sought to break stereotypes, especially the outdated idea that people with disabilities or differences are relegated to circus-like settings in narratives. 'One of the other things that we didn't want to have is that it's a given that if you're vertically challenged, you would be in a circus. We didn't want that in the film,' he stated. After intolerance remark, SRK plays it safe this time! SRK Praises Kamal Haasan's Vision Despite dismissing comparisons, Shah Rukh was full of praise for Kamal Haasan and Appu Raja. 'Appu Raja was fantastic. Full marks to Kamal sir to even attempt it. Only he, with his weird, intelligent way of thinking, can do it,' SRK said, acknowledging the boldness of the 1989 film and its lasting impact. He stressed that Zero aimed to shatter the myth that physical or emotional 'incompleteness' leads to negativity. 'You can celebrate life in spite of being incomplete. So, it's not about the height,' he concluded. On the work front, Kamal Haasan recently starred in 'Thug Life' which is directed by Mani Ratnam. Unfortunately the film is getting mixed reviews.
