Foundation laid for bridge construction on Boggeru stream
Nellore: Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana has said that a road-cum-bridge on Boggeru Stream at Veerlagudipadu village will be constructed with Rs 25 crore.
On Saturday, he laid foundation for the construction of road-cum-bridge at Veerlagudipadu village.
Anam said that people of Veerlagudipadu have been facing problems due ot lack of road facility and they have travel 25 km to reach Sangam mandal headquarters via Atmakur. If Boggeru stream in spate during rainy season, people will have no connection with external world without road facility. After noticing their problem, it was decided to construct a bridge within one year, he added.
The Minister said once the bridge is completed, people can reach Sangam mandal by travelling just 10 km distance. It was also decided to construct cement road by replacing gravel roads in village.
Earlier, Minister Anam has distributed NTR Bharosa pensions in the village. Panchayath Raj SE Ashok Kumar, Atmakur RDO Pavani, MPDO Salet, Tahsildar Somla Naik and others were present.

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Monday admitted that the state government made a "mistake" in extending financial benefits to all applicants of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana without sufficient scrutiny, attributing the lapse to time constraints ahead of last year's assembly elections. 'We made a mistake of giving the financial benefit to all women (applicants). We had little time to scrutinise the applications and identify the ineligible ones. At that time, elections were supposed to be announced in two to three months,' news agency PTI reported Pawar as saying. The Ladki Bahin scheme, launched in August 2024, offers Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women aged 21 to 65 years with an annual income below Rs 2.5 lakh. Though it was designed to empower poor women, scrutiny revealed thousands of ineligible recipients, including over 2,200 government employees. Pawar, who also heads the state's finance department, clarified that the aid already deposited will not be withdrawn. 'When the scheme was unveiled, the government had appealed that only eligible women apply but that didn't happen. A scrutiny is being conducted. Newly married women can present a marriage certificate if their name does not appear on a ration card. Another case under MGNREGA ‘scam': Balvantsinh Khabad sent to five days police custody
A local court in Dahod on Monday remanded Balvantsinh Khabad — the older son of Gujarat Minister of State for Panchayat, Bachubhai Khabad — to five days in police custody following his re-arrest on Sunday in a fresh case of alleged irregularities in the the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in district's Dhanpur taluka. On Monday, the Dahod district police sought 14 days remand of Balvantsinh, citing that records of the payments as well as involvement of government officials, who favoured the agency run by the accused, needed to be probed into. Dahod Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdishsinh Bhandari told The Indian Express, 'We had sought a remand of 14 days on various grounds but the court has granted five days in police custody until Friday. We also have Kiran Khabad in custody until Friday.' Balvantsinh's arrest on Sunday had come just three days after the Dahod Sessions court on Thursday had upheld the regular bail granted to the two brothers in the first case filed by the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) of an alleged MGNREGA scam worth Rs 71 crore. While Kiran was re-arrested minutes after being released from judicial custody on Thursday, in a second FIR lodged in connection with irregularities in Lavaria village of Devgadh Baria taluka, Balvantsinh's arrest has come in a third FIR lodged by the DRDA in case of incomplete projects in Bhanpur village in Dhanpur taluka of the district. In the new case against Balvantsinh, the police is probing an irregularity of approximately Rs 33 lakh for about 11 incomplete MGNREGA works that have been found in Bhanpur village of Dhanpur taluka. Bhandari added that no fresh arrests have been made in any of the three FIRs registered so far. A total of 14 persons have been arrested in the case, including the then Taluka Development Officer (TDO) of Devgadh Baria, Darshan Patel, the current Deputy District Development Officer (DDO) of Dahod Rasik Rathwa, who was then the TDO of Dhanpur taluka as well as Dilip Chauhan, a former Assistant Programme Officer (APO) — and a distant relative of the Khabads. Then Assistant Programme Officer of Dhanpur Bhavesh Rathod, MIS operator Sanjay Baria and the owner of other agencies that supplied materials — Parth Baria and Jagdish Baria — are among the 14 accused to be arrested so far. Kiran and Balvantsinh are the only accused to have been arrested in more than one FIR so far.

IAS officer asks students to clean their toilets in Telangana, National SC commission issues notices
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes Sunday issued notices to the Telangana chief secretary and the director general of police regarding the alleged derogatory remarks against SC Gurukul students by IAS officer Dr V S Alagu Varshini, seeking an action-taken report within 15 days. Varshini, Secretary, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS), sparked controversy with her remarks regarding Gurukul school students in an audio clip that went viral recently. The incident occurred a week ago when the IAS officer reportedly directed school principals to incorporate cleaning duties, including tidying toilets and hostel rooms, into the students' routine at welfare hostels and classrooms. While the IAS officer stressed that there was nothing wrong with students in Gurukul schools cleaning toilets and tidying their own rooms, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former secretary of TGSWREIS Dr R S Praveen Kumar asked the chief minister if his children washed the bathrooms of the school they were studying in. While demanding her sacking, he said the officer was discriminating against Dalit students studying in the Gurukul schools. 'These orders of an IAS Officer, Dr Alugu Varshini ji are utterly outrageous and reflect the manuvadi mindset of many in bureaucracy. She is even threatening the parents who question such 'reformatory' orders!!!,' he posted on X. Now the officer is Forcing children to clean toilets in schools !!' According to Kavitha, the statements go against the concept of establishing Gurukuls to protect students from marginalised communities from caste and class bias. 'This behaviour is discriminatory, exploitative, and violates basic principles of child rights and dignity. It only reflects Revanth Reddy's government's anti-poor, anti-Dalith attitude !! I demand the government to immediately take steps to remove the officer and start giving the required funds to run the social welfare schools properly,' she wrote. In the purported audio, the officer justified her statements, saying that these students hail from extremely poor backgrounds and should learn how to take care of themselves even while at home. 'If they have to do roti making, they will do roti making. Very good. They must do the room cleaning. Who will clean their rooms? Once, the sweeper will do… Why can't they clean their own toilets? What is wrong it it… This is the growing phase of a child. I cannot give luxury. Then after the 11th and 12th standards, the child will go and sit, the parents may not be there to take care of them. Saying I don't know how to cook and I know only about studies as a useless person is not acceptable,' the officer can be heard saying in the audio shared by Kavitha. In another audio, which the officer herself shared with the media, she appealed not to politicise the issue involving students and take her words out of context. Terming the allegations of a lack of sanitation staff as baseless, she said children helping parents at home is a 'normal day-to-day activity' and helps them grow as an 'aware individual'. 'If you go abroad or go to another state, you have to do your own day-to-day work. Cleaning the rooms, washing the bathrooms, and washing clothes need to be done by oneself while also focusing on studies. The sudden transformation usually takes time for children. These are certain muscle memories,' she added. The officer was not available for a comment despite repeated attempts.
