This New Circus-themed Florida Hotel Has Access to a Private Beach and Carnival-inspired Cocktails
New boutique hotel Cirque St. Armands Beachside opened its doors in Sarasota on March 25, with Gulf Coast views, a seafood-focused restaurant, and a flurry of whimsical, circus-inspired touches.
Located near Lido Beach on Florida's southwest coast, the 135-room hotel is part of the Opal Collection, a group of 28 luxury hotels and resorts. Cirque St. Armands Beachside's art deco and circus influences are a nod to the town's history—John Ringling moved the winter headquarters of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus to Sarasota in the late 1920s. Spaces are splashed with theatrical geometric tiled floors, striped textiles, golden wall sconces, and ostrich feather chandeliers, while floor-to-ceiling windows show off ocean views.
'Cirque St. Armands Beachside's honors Sarasota's circus heritage with a chic, bold art deco-meets-roaring twenties design, reimagining the space with playful, eye-catching details,' the hotel's general manager, Melissa Kaplan, told Travel + Leisure . 'This boutique hotel is truly unlike any other property in Florida, offering elevated hospitality and unparalleled style. The vibrancy extends to Ringside, the signature restaurant, and the dazzling white sand beaches of Lido Beach are just steps away.'
Ringside serves dishes like smoked Gulf Coast shrimp and seafood towers against a backdrop of velvet drapery, larger-than-life murals depicting trapeze artists and performers, and a striped arch ceiling that recalls a Big Top tent. Midway, the lobby bar lounge, specializes in creative cocktails (at check-in, guests are served a carnival-themed cocktail or mocktail), while Ringmaster is a poolside bar with ocean views.
Speaking of the pool, it is shaped like a series of three connecting circles reminiscent of a three-ring circus and features an elevated sun deck. Also on-theme: billowy, striped private cabanas and an al fresco gelato cart. Guests also have exclusive access to a 300-foot private stretch of sand at nearby sibling hotel Lido Beach Resort.
Nightly rates at Cirque St. Armands Beachside start from $309, and you can book your stay at opalcollection.com.

The Best Children's Museums in the US, From San Francisco to St. Louis
While there are several children's museums that have climbing gyms, tot-scaled supermarkets, and STEAM-inspired tinkering labs, what makes an institution really stand out from the pack is its creative play spaces. At the Children's Museum of Eau Claire in Wisconsin, for example, kids scramble up the tongue and slide out the bum of a digestive track-themed indoor playground. Then there are the record-breaking exhibits like the world's largest Triceratops fossil skeleton, a.k.a. Big John, which is on display at the Glazer Children's Museum in Tampa, Florida. As for the places that dedicate space to deep dives on unique and important subjects, the Bronzeville Children's Museum in Chicago is the first and only African-American children's museum in the country. (And it goes all in on Black inventors.) What follows are eight of the country's best children's museums—dynamic, sensory-rich spaces that engage and entertain as much as they educate. The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix houses 7,500 instruments from more than 200 countries and territories in its collection. Musical Instrument Museum The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Indiana It doesn't get any bigger than this—literally. Opened in 1925, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis may not be the oldest in the country (that distinction belongs to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, founded in 1899), but it is the world's largest. We're talking five floors of interactive exhibits, 7.5 acres of outdoor sports experiences (including a simulated Indy 500 race course using bicycles in place of cars), a replica International Space Station, an antique carousel, the largest water clock in North America, a 43-foot-tall Chihuly glass sculpture, a kid-friendly food court, and more to see and do than any family could reasonably pack into a day. This powerhouse is next level in every arena: Like many kids' museums, for instance, it has a special zone dedicated to dinosaurs. But this one features a real T. rex skeleton, interactive dig sites, and an open lab where kids can meet working paleontologists and ask them questions about the fossils they are preserving. Other exhibits touch upon youth activism, locomotives, and ancient mysteries of Egypt and China. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis was the launch pad for Disney Jr.'s first-ever Mickey Mouse Clubhouse exhibit but also lands cool exhibitions for tweens and older—like the new 'Afrofuturism in Costume Design' show surveying the work of Academy Award-winning designer Ruth E. Carter (Black Panther, Malcolm X). There's even a 110-foot Ferris wheel parked outside, brought in to celebrate the museum's 100th anniversary. It'll remain on site through November 2, 2025. Where to stay for families in Indianapolis:

Carnival Corporation's ‘Less Left Over' Strategy Beats Targets, Delivers Significant Food Waste Reduction Progress
Reductions represent $250 million in cost avoidance since 2019 MIAMI, June 10, 2025 /3BL/ - Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), the world's largest cruise company, today announced it achieved a 44% reduction in unit food waste in 2024 compared to 2019 levels, surpassing its 2025 40% reduction target a full year ahead of schedule and is well on its way toward its 50% reduction goal set for 2030. The significant reductions are a result of the company's ongoing 'Less Left Over' food management strategy focused on its world-class cruise lines finding smart ways to ensure food and ingredients don't go to waste. Since 2019, the company has avoided over $250 million in food costs by finetuning its provisioning, preparation and meal service practices to further enhance the dining experience for its almost 13.5 million annual guests and to reduce the amount of uneaten food globally in its operations. 'Our Less Left Over strategy is powered by dozens of large and small programs and technologies across our cruise lines to cut food waste by 50% by 2030,' said Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation. 'But more than that, it's also a global rallying cry that is turning everyday actions into lasting impact by nurturing a shared mindset among our 160,000 talented team members – a mindset that values creativity in delivering amazing meals for our guests and crew while getting the most out of our resources. It's great for the planet and our bottom line.' Optimizing Every Delicious Bite Carnival Corporation's success in reducing food waste stems from its holistic approach to addressing every step of the food lifecycle onboard its ships and in its land operations, from sourcing to prep to dining services. This includes: While the goal is less food left over to discard, just like eating at home there will always be food and food preparation items remaining after your meal. In those cases, Carnival Corporation takes a circular economy approach to find meaningful ways of creating productive value from any remaining food materials by transforming what might have been waste into useful resources. One of the many ways the company is maximizing the usable life of the food products is to repurpose food scraps into new products – from upcycling used coffee grounds to produce vegan soap products to converting used cooking oil into biofuel for its land-based tour bus operations in Alaska. Tackling Leftovers with Technology When leftovers cannot be repurposed into other resources, Carnival Corporation still finds ways to ensure there is 'less left over' by investing in innovative waste management technologies and systems to minimize the impact of the small amount of unused food scraps that remain. Going well beyond regulatory requirements, these combined technologies substantially limit the impact from conventional food waste disposal methods, such as landfills, while contributing to even more sustainable and efficient operations. For example, one way the company treats and manages left-over food onboard is with its over 630 biodigesters installed fleetwide as of the end of 2024. These 'metallic stomachs' use natural bacteria to organically break down and liquify uneaten food to a tiny fraction of its original volume. Carnival Corporation also relies on over 90 dehydrators and dryers installed across the fleet to remove excess water from hard-to-break-down food items, such as fruit rinds, shrinking the remaining hard waste volume by approximately 90%. The dried material can then be ground down into an organic pulp for possible use as organic mulch and compost or offloaded. Carnival Corporation's food management strategy forms a cornerstone of its broader waste management and circular economy initiatives from ship to shore, which aim to manage natural resources efficiently and focus on keeping products and materials in use as long as possible through reuse, recycling, refurbishment and maintenance. These efforts are part of the company's overarching sustainability vision to reduce its environmental impact overall and provide sustainable financial results for its stakeholders.
