Tenby soap star takes on motorbike ride in memory of friend
Charles Dale, 62, known for his roles in Coronation Street and Casualty, was left heartbroken when his friend, Shaun Griffiths, 63, died after a fall down the stairs.
Mr Griffiths' "silly" household accident in October last year caused a brain injury that led to his death.
Mr Dale, who has also appeared in Emmerdale, Holby City, and The Bill, will now ride across Britain, visiting 100 motorcycle cafes in a sponsored ride.
The month-long adventure, dubbed Shaun's TT One Hundred, will raise money for Brain Tumour Research and Headway.
Mr Dale said: "Just over six months ago one of my oldest and best friends suffered a catastrophic brain injury because of what can only be described as a 'silly' household accident - he slipped on the stairs.
"Unfortunately for Shaun this resulted in a bleed on the brain and just over a week later his family had to make the most difficult decision ever, to withdraw life support.
"Shaun died shortly after. He was 63."
Mr Dale, who now serves as deputy mayor of Tenby, has become an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research after witnessing the impact of brain tumours on friends and their families.
He said: "Seeing the devastating impact brain tumours have had on my friends' lives has been awful - so I'm deeply honoured to become an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research, the leading voice of the brain tumour community and a cause that's very close to my heart."
Dan Knowles, CEO of Brain Tumour Research, said: "We are deeply honoured to announce Charles as our new ambassador.
"He has been a huge support to the charity, playing a key role in some of our biggest campaigns."

Devastating funeral, surprise return and arrest on Coronation Street next week
Coronation Street fans may want to get the tissues next week, as the soap are set to air the final goodbye for PC Craig Tinker - but one resident fails to attend It's set to be an emotional week in Coronation Street next week as Craig Tinker gets the send off he deserves after being brutally killed. However, things are thrown into chaos when one resident fails to show up. We'll also see Betsy sneakily visit someone in prison, and a shock arrest for another unlikely resident. The funeral day starts off in panic when Sarah's concerned to discover that Kit's already left for the day. Lisa is then forced to step in and make a heartfelt speech at the funeral after he's still no where to be seen. But where is Kit? It's evident he has a lot on his mind as absence comes after he finds Brody injured in an alley with a broken bottle of whisky next to him. It's also a tough week for Lisa - as Carla confides in Betsy that she's worried for her partner. However, Betsy only adds to the worry as Lisa soon catches her daughter snooping through some of her old files. The 1% Club players stumped on ‘easy' Coronation Street ‘spot the difference' question – could you get it in 30 seconds?
THE 1% Club viewers were left scratching their heads after a 'simple' Coronation Street question proved too tricky for most players. The ITV game show, hosted by comedian Lee Mack, challenged contestants to spot the difference in a classic cobbles scene from Coronation Street. 4 Some players were stumped on an early picture question based on the ITV soap - how would you do under pressure? Credit: ITV Instead of testing players on their general knowledge, 100 contestants try their luck at solving riddles within 30 seconds. On The 1% Club, they are whittled down round by round as they are tasked with using their logic, reasoning skills, and common sense. With every player that gets eliminated, £1,000 gets added to the prize pot as the players try to answer questions that certain percentages of the public would get right. The players that remain at the end will fight to win a potentially huge jackpot prize and a chance at joining the prestigious one percent club. In a recent episode, the 70% question saw contestants get wiped out on an easy picture question. Lee asked: "What is the difference between these two images?" The answer was: "The image on the right shows Ravers instead of Rovers." Another episode also saw an 'easy' common sense riddle knock out a massive 23 people - also a 70% question. Lee said: "John writes with his right hand and the last word he'd right if he was writing this sentence would be be. "If Keith writes with his left hand, what would be the last word he would write in the sentence above?" The 1% Club players stumped on tricky maths question as 13 players pass - but could you have got it right- The answer was the word 'be', as a different writing hand would not change the last word, something which many viewers playing along got correct. However, a whopping 23 players in the studio answered the riddle incorrectly and they were eliminated from the game. Viewers took to social media in droves as they couldn't believe so many players left the game after such an 'easy' question One wrote: "How t* have 23 gone out?? Being left handed doesn't mean you write words in the wrong order."
