Yemen Reclaims Cultural Treasures from British Custody

Yemen Online17-04-2025

In a monumental step toward preserving its rich cultural legacy, Yemen has successfully recovered four historical artifacts that had been in British custody for several years. This marks a vital achievement in Yemen's efforts to reclaim its heritage, lost amid years of conflict and foreign occupation.
The artifacts were discovered to be in the possession of the grandson of a former British officer, who brought them to the UK during Yemen's colonial era. The British authorities, after seizing the items, temporarily placed them in the British Museum for safeguarding before their official handover to the Yemeni government.
This recovery signifies more than the return of physical items; it underscores the importance of cultural identity and the resilience of nations in protecting their heritage. For Yemen, a country that has faced the devastating consequences of war, reclaiming these treasures symbolizes hope and pride in its history.
The road to recovery was not without challenges. Legal proceedings and coordination between governments and cultural organizations played a crucial role. Yemen's perseverance highlights the global importance of collaborative efforts to repatriate artifacts to their countries of origin.
The return of these artifacts to Yemen serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility to safeguard the world's cultural heritage. It is a triumph not just for Yemen, but for the preservation of global history and heritage.

Hodeida: Armed tribal rally in al-Munirah declares general mobilization against enemy

Hodeida - Saba: The residents of al-Sahel district in al-Munirah district of Hodeida governorate on Wednesday staged an armed tribal rally. Participants declared general mobilization and affirmed their readiness to confront the Zionist aggression, while also denouncing traitors and agents. During the rally, attendees chanted slogans emphasizing their readiness to implement the leadership's directives within the framework of the comprehensive battle against the forces of arrogance. The attendees stressed that the current situation demands courageous and uncompromising stances. The participants highlighted that the massacres and acts of genocide being perpetrated against the Palestinian people necessitate a firm, religious, and popular stance that embodies the unity of the Islamic position regarding the nation's foremost cause. They asserted that the people of the coastal enclave, like other free Yemenis, are prepared to continue on the path of "jihad" and sacrifice everything they possess in the battle against the "Zionist entity" until every inch of Palestine is liberated. The rally participants reiterated that the Yemeni people will not abandon Palestine and will remain faithful to their covenant until the occupation is expelled. They further emphasized that "silence is treason" and that "the gun is the language of dignity." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (Local)

UK Parliament agrees to debate investigation into Government's Involvement in Gaza Genocide

London – SABA: The British Parliament on Wednesday approved the discussion of the 'Gaza Bill,' which seeks to open an investigation into the British government's potential involvement in the genocide committed by the Israeli enemy against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Former Labour Party leader and MP Jeremy Corbyn submitted the bill today, according to the 'Sanad' news agency. Corbyn stated in media remarks: 'Today I am presenting a bill to investigate Britain's involvement in Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip.' He added: 'MPs must decide whether they will support an investigation into Britain's role in genocide, or whether they will obstruct it.' UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had earlier indicated that Britain is working with what he described as 'allies' to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. In press statements on Wednesday, Starmer said, 'The situation in Gaza is horrific, and aid must be allowed in.' He expressed opposition to the Israeli assault on Gaza and the West Bank, stating: 'We oppose the Israeli military operation in Gaza and settler violence in the West Bank. What Israel is doing is intolerable.' With U.S. and European support, the Israeli occupation army has, since October 7, 2023, been committing acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 54,607 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and the injury of 125,341 others, according to non-final figures, as thousands remain trapped under rubble or in streets unreachable by rescue teams.
