Gautam Adani visits residence of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, pays tributes to late leader
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 13 (ANI): Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani on Friday visited the residence of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was among the 242 passengers on the Air India flight bound for London that crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board. One passenger survived the crash.
Gautam Adani had earlier paid his condolences over the loss of lives in the plane crash.
'We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragedy of Air India Flight 171. Our hearts go out to the families who have suffered an unimaginable loss. We are working closely with all authorities and extending full support to the families on the ground,' he said in a post on X on Thursday.
PM Modi also met with the family of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani earlier in the day.
PM Modi said that the former CM was a humble and hardworking person and firmly committed to the party's ideology.
'Met the family of Shri Vijaybhai Rupani Ji. It is unimaginable that Vijaybhai is not in our midst. I've known him for decades. We worked together, shoulder to shoulder, including during some of the most challenging times. Vijaybhai was humble and hardworking, firmly committed to the Party's ideology,' PM Modi wrote in a post on X.
'Rising up the ranks, he held various responsibilities in the Organisation and went on to serve diligently as Gujarat's Chief Minister,' he added.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Friday confirmed the recovery of the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), commonly referred to as the black box, from the rooftop of a building at the site of the Air India Flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad.
The AAIB has launched a full-scale investigation into the crash, with over 40 staff from the Gujarat State Government joining efforts to support the Ministry of Civil Aviation teams on the ground.
The black box, a critical piece of evidence, will be analysed to determine the cause of the tragic crash. (ANI)

The Haifa Port remained untouched in the Iranian assault as it located in northern Israel, while the attack took place in the southern part. However, future Iranian attacks may not spare's Israel's north, and also threatens to affect Mediterranean trade routes. Adani Group's joint defense ventures in Israel Notably, Gautam Adani's investments in Israel are not limited to ports, but extend to significant joint defense ventures in the Jewish state. In 2018, Adani Enterprises partnered with Israel's Elbit Systems, establishing the Adani Elbit Advanced Systems India, which manufactures Hermes 900 drones in Hyderabad, that are extensively used by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). While Adani's defense venture is likely to benefit from the ongoing conflict, his investment in Haifa Port faces a major threat as tensions escalate.

"Dangerous Manufacturing...": Boeing Whistleblower To NDTV On Air India Crash
New Delhi: Ed Pierson - the ex-high-level Boeing manager-turned-whistleblower, who testified before the United States Congress in 2019 that he had flagged safety issues with the company's 737 Max variant - has told NDTV of "chaotic and dangerous manufacturing" at its production facilities. This comes amid scrutiny over the horrific crash of Air India's AI-171, a London-bound flight that lost thrust and slammed into a residential area in Gujarat's Ahmedabad 36 seconds after take-off. Flight AI-171 was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. It was the first crash involving a 787 since 2009, but it has turned the spotlight back on long-standing concerns about Dreamliner manufacturing standards and on John Barnett, a whistleblower who died under mysterious circumstances last year. It also brings the focus back on Sam Salehpour, another Boeing whistleblower who accused the company of putting profit over safety, and retaliating against his publicly raising red flags. "That's right... during testimony (to the US Congress in April last year) Mr Salehpour, who is the engineer with Boeing who reported problems, i.e., structural issues, and he provided pretty startling information about employees forcing parts to fit together (by jumping on them, according to some whistleblowers) when you aren't supposed to force them together..." "... and he expressed concern and apparently did everything he could, from inside the company, to raise these concerns and wasn't getting an adequate response," Mr Pierson told NDTV. "So he felt it was necessary to become a whistleblower." In April last year Mr Salehpour, who spent nearly two decades at Boeing, told US lawmakers he had been "put through hell" for raising concerns about the manufacturing processes. Among specifics flagged by Mr Salehpour were structural problems in the Dreamliner's fuselage; he claimed small gaps and improper assembly could cause possible structural failure. Boeing had strongly disputed the whistleblowers' claims, including those by Mr Salehpour, sand said the Dreamliner had been put through 150,000 safety tests and audits. It also denied retaliating against the whistleblowers after many, including Sam Salehpour, alleged retribution. The Federal Aviation Administration, the United States' top aviation authority, launched an investigation based on Mr Salehpour's claims. The FAA cleared in-operation 787 planes. On Wednesday, hours after the Air India plane crash, American officials continued to state there was no immediate safety data that required halting of Boeing 787 flights in the US. READ | US Aviation Body Says New Problem In Undelivered 787 Dreamliners Asked if the concerns flagged by Mr Salehpour could have been present, or indeed, contributed to the horrifying Air India crash, Mr Pierson told NDTV "it is possible..." "... concerns raised by Mr Salehpour could have been present in the Air India plane," he said, pointing out, "The problems he identified.. apparently the planes were being bult like that for a long time." On his own whistleblowing - regarding the 737 Max planes - Mr Pierson said there were multiple indicators of "chaotic and dangerous manufacturing" at the company. "We were rushing to build planes... employees were under pressure to do overtime... there were parts issues, aircraft systems issues, functional system testing and electrical system testing, in particular..." The AI-171 plane crash is being investigated by Indian authorities; flight AI-171's black box has been recovered and the voice and systems data it contains is being analysed. The government has also set up a high-level committee to inquire into the accident and suggest guidelines to reinforce the safety of planes and passengers. Information available at this time only shows the plane lost thrust seconds after take-off. The Air India plane fell on a students' hostel near Ahmedabad airport. The pilots sent a distress radio message to Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control between 1.39 and 1.40 am, the government has said, but did not then respond to the ATC hailing the doomed plane. All but one of the 242 people on board were killed; the lone survivor was a British-Indian man sitting in seat 11A, and at least 31 deaths have been confirmed on the ground, taking the total dead to 274.

Lessons in putting out accurate information, from an HIV campaign dating back to the days before our now post-truth world The crash of Air India 171 that killed hundreds — the exact number is yet to be announced — is turning out to be another case of extreme information management rather than information sharing. While there is scarcity of authentic information, people — many with no technical expertise — have theories that are proliferating wildly through social media. As it turns out, it's not just the armed forces that are above questioning. It seems even private companies are entitled to the protection of silence. Any crash is a subject of investigation, which must, in fairness, cover all aspects, including safety practices, the airline's management, and pilot error. We hope that Air India is as transparent as it promises to be. Free, open, and critical exchange of facts, and opinion based on accurate information in the public domain are the essential ingredients of a vibrant and successful society. More importantly, these are essential for good governance, in both public and private sectors. Boeing, the maker of the aircraft that crashed, sought to punish whistleblowers who flagged serious security concerns regarding its 787 series, according to American media reporting. Free, fair, timely, and accurate information is endangered by two distinct threats: the reluctance of its custodians to share it; and the spread of misinformation by people motivated by reasons other than the truth. We are left with a barrage of propaganda and misinformation. A free society in which institutions, companies, and people in authority, in both the private and public sectors are held accountable and are obligated to face questions from the people, will be better equipped to prevent and manage all disasters. Let me share with you one example of how openness and transparency in place of secrecy turned around a governance challenge in the undivided State of Andhra Pradesh (AP). AP was a hotspot of HIV infections, and the stigma associated with it drove more and more patients into leading a secret life, with people vulnerable to the virus avoiding testing. Nine out of 10 with the infection did not know they had it, and continued to be carriers of the virus. Asok Kumar, an IAS officer in charge of the AIDS control mission, developed a campaign in 2006 titled Be Bold, which encouraged those carrying the human immunodeficiency virus to come out and socialise publicly. The knowledge that they were not alone gave people the courage to speak about the illness, and many found life partners through the information-exchange events. The experiment took a dramatic turn when the then Chief Minister of the State, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, decided to undergo an HIV test in public view in 2006. He also asked his Cabinet members to join in, and 70 MLAs also got tested. The secrecy of HIV testing was removed significantly, and the number of tests grew rapidly. As part of the campaign that ran for 13 months, 18 lakh tests were done, compared to around 5 lakh the previous year. More than 1 lakh tested positive; as testing increased and more people took preventive measures and medicines, prevalence declined. In 2021-22, a total of 23,57,260 people were tested for HIV (AP was bifurcated by then), and 13,815 were diagnosed with the infection, a significant reduction in prevalence. All situations of governance deficiency and crises can be mitigated by the sharing of accurate, reliable information in a timely manner, leading to public discussions — even public outcry — based on it. A better-informed public can lead to better social and corporate outcomes. A public armed with knowledge can even prevent air crashes. Federalism Tract -Notes on Indian diversity Police state The US Federal government led by President Donald Trump took control of the California National Guard, which is usually under the command of the State Governor, to quell street riots in protests against immigration law enforcement. Additionally, the Marines were deployed in Los Angeles. California State has won the first legal challenge, in which the judge held that the Federal government overstepped its power in taking over the command of the National Guard. This case, which is certain to reach the Supreme Court, will be a milestone in US federalism. Forget identifying the mother of any language, identifying the mother of a human being is also not as easy as it used to be. Whether someone is the father or mother of a child, in a biological sense, might sound a rather easy determination to be made. But a transgender couple in Kerala had a biological child: the person who gave birth to the baby now identifies as a male, and the person who impregnated them now identifies as a woman. But the local municipality insisted on identifying 'mother' and 'father,' with 'transgender' written in brackets, in the birth certificate of the child. The couple moved the Kerala High Court with the plea they be called 'parent', instead of 'mother' or 'father.' The Kerala HC has allowed the plea and ordered the municipality to issue a certificate with their names mentioned as 'parent'.
