In Gurgaon, task force set up to probe illegalbusinesses on road to Galleria Market
Gurgaon: After the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) intervention in a case concerning illegal commercial activities along the road leading to Galleria Market in Sector 27, deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar announced plans to constitute an inter-departmental team to probe the matter.
The team will include officials from MCG, HSPCB, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, Town Planning, and DHBVN, and will inspect the site and submit a detailed report. The action follows a petition by residents, highlighting severe environmental violations such as illegal commercial operations, including illegal use of diesel generator sets, open waste burning and untreated sewage discharge, allegedly causing severe air and noise pollution in the area.
Deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar said, "We have taken note of the concerns raised regarding the illegal commercial activities in Sector 27. An inter-departmental team will be formed shortly to examine the entire situation on the ground. Based on their findings, appropriate action will be taken."
The petition highlighted that multiple shops, eateries, and workshops have been operating without licences or environmental clearances near Hamilton Court and Galleria Market.

An inspection by DHBVN on Feb 21, 2025, confirmed electricity theft and illegal resale of power. Despite disconnection, the establishments reportedly continued operations using DG sets in violation of environmental norms. The petitioner also alleged that despite submitting several complaints to the authorities between August 2024 and March 2025, no concrete action was taken.
Meanwhile, residents have welcomed the DC's decision.
"We've been suffering due to unchecked pollution, traffic congestion, and foul smells from untreated waste for months. This is the first time the administration is taking the issue seriously," said Pooja Singh, a resident of Sector 27.
Environmental activists have also urged the administration to ensure that the committee's findings lead to on-ground enforcement. "Reports are not enough. What we need is action—sealing of illegal units and penalties against violators," said Vikram Singh, a city-based environmentalist.
The inter-departmental committee is expected to start its inspection soon and submit a detailed report before the next NGT hearing scheduled for July 4, 2025.

Call centre of cyber scam busted, 15 held
Lucknow: A sophisticated multi-layered fraudulent call centre orchestrating a wide range of cyber scams across India was busted in Lucknow. This digital fraud operation, which used platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and the Reddy Anna betting app, is believed to have been remotely controlled by a mastermind operating from Dubai. The local call centre in the Vrindavan Yojna area functioned as a dummy terminal for outreach and coordination. The gang duped over 1,000 people from across India, minting several crores. A total of 15 accused were arrested during a coordinated raid at a residential tower in Vrindavan Yojna on Thursday. Additional DCP, Crime Unit, Vasanth Kumar, who led the probe, told TOI that during questioning, all 15 accused admitted to involvement in cyber fraud and online gambling, targeting people across multiple states in India. "They claimed they destroyed devices after usage and regularly changed locations to avoid detection. The Cyber Crime Portal confirmed 69 complaints linked to the seized phones and 157 complaints tied to recovered passbooks and cheque books," he said. Kumar said that first victims were given initial fake wins to build trust. "After encouraging large deposits, their accounts were blocked or manipulated to show total losses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Santo Tome (ver precio) Verisure Más información Undo The money was funnelled into mule accounts or cryptocurrency wallets, making it nearly untraceable," he said. Kumar said that the alleged kingpin, identified as Vishal Yadav alias Ganni alias Prince, coordinated the operations remotely and has shifted base between Sri Lanka, Singapore, Dubai, and now India to avoid law enforcement heat. The scam was previously operated abroad before relocating to Lucknow just a month ago. The gang, which lured victims across India by offering fake online work and betting opportunities, was being run remotely by its mastermind based in Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Dubai. Victims were approached through WhatsApp with offers of easy online income—work-from-home jobs, paid reviews, video likes, and commission-based tasks—to build initial trust. Once victims showed interest, they were shifted to Telegram groups or bots. Telegram's encryption and anonymity features enabled automated interaction and protected the scammers' identities. Kumar said that operations were managed via VoIP and virtual numbers to conceal the location. Masterminds are believed to be operating from Dubai, using encrypted channels. Funds were funnelled through layered mule accounts, betting platforms like Reddy Anna, and cryptocurrency wallets to avoid detection. UP woman gets daughter's BF murdered, held with 4 others
Lucknow: A woman along with four men, including her brother, was arrested on Thursday for the murder of her daughter's boyfriend at her home in UP's Basti. The body of 22-year-old Abusad Alam, a native of Bihar's West Champaran, was recovered in a field near the woman's home on June 8. Police arrested three accused — Hameedullah, Chandraprakash, and Ashish — on Thursday morning after they were captured in a CCTV near the site where Alam's body was found. The trio was seen attacking Alam with sticks in a field. They told the police that the murder was planned by Ayesha Khatoon and her brother Jameel Ahmed who were against Ayesha daughter's relationship with Alam. Police then grilled Ayesha and Jamal who reportedly confessed to their crime. Police recovered two motorcycles used in the crime and five mobiles from the accused. Basti SP Abhinandan said Ayesha Khatoon was unhappy with her daughter's relationship with Alam, who lived in Pune with his brother and had met the girl who lived there. "Despite Ayesha's objections, the two families reluctantly agreed to the match due to the couple's insistence. However, Ayesha secretly plotted the murder with the help of Jameel and his acquaintances," said the SP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Ayesha invited Alam to her home for dinner on June 8. FIR against doctor who posed as cardiologist, 5 others
Faridabad: Nearly a month after the complaint was filed, police on Tuesday registered an FIR against the city doctor who was allegedly masquerading as a cardiologist and performed around 50 heart procedures, including critical surgeries, for seven months before the fraud was called out. The FIR also names five officials of the heart care centre at BK Civil Hospital, where the doctor -- Pankaj Mohan Sharma – was working as a cardiologist. It includes Dr N Pratap Kumar, CMD of Mediterina Hospital, which runs the heart care centre at the civil hospital in a public-private partnership mode. Others are Dalip Nayyar, head of corporate HR at the facility; Ajay Sharma, head of the Haryana centre; Piyush Srivastava, financial manager; and Mandip, centre head. The accused, Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal Singh said on Thursday, have been charged under sections 125 (endangering life or personal safety), 318(4) (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 336 (3) (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security), 340 (forged documents or electronic records) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. "Investigation is ongoing," the spokesperson said. Asked about the delay, police said they were waiting for a detailed report and documents linked to Dr Sharma from the civil surgeon's office before proceeding with the FIR. According to the FIR, hospital officials were aware that Sharma, though a qualified doctor, was not authorised to perform surgeries, but they permitted him to do so anyway. The case came to police on April 11, when lawyer and activist Sanjay Gupta filed a complaint that Dr Pankaj Sharma had forged documents to show that he had a DNB (Diplomate of National Board) in cardiology, a degree equivalent to that of an MD. "The hospital management continued to employ an unqualified and fraudulent doctor who lacks any degree or recognised specialisation in cardiology. Dr Sharma falsely claimed qualifications of MD and DNB (cardiology)," Gupta said in the complaint. He also alleged in the complaint that Dr Sharma had killed three patients. After preliminary investigation, police also found that Dr Sharma was fraudulently using the identity and registration number of a legitimate practising cardiologist in the city – Dr Pankaj Mohan. It turned out that Dr Mohan got whiff of the fraud months before the police complaint. In Jan this year, he had approached the Indian Medical Association and accused Dr Sharma of illegally using his credentials. Dr Mohan also issued a legal notice to Dr Sharma. The MBBS doctor, who was hired by Mediterina Hospital in July 2024, stopped reporting to the heart care centre from Feb after he was asked to produce his medical degree. "Many patients began enquiring about him and eventually visited the real Dr Pankaj Mohan. When Dr Mohan clarified that he had never worked at the heart centre, the allegations became obvious," a doctor at BK Civil Hospital told TOI.
