New Delhi: In a compassionate move to assist the families of victims affected by the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171, the airline on Thursday announced two special relief flights -- one each from Delhi and Mumbai -- to Ahmedabad.
These flights are meant to bring the next of kin of passengers and Air India staff to the crash site and nearby hospitals.
According to the airline's post on X, the first relief flight from Delhi (IX1555) will depart at 11 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the return flight (IX1556) from Ahmedabad at 1.10 a.m. on June 13.
From Mumbai, flight AI1402 will also depart at 11 p.m., and the return flight AI1409 is scheduled for 1.15 a.m.
"Families and relatives in Delhi and Mumbai who wish to travel can contact the dedicated hotline at 1800 5691 444," the airline said in a post on social media platform X.
For those flying in from international locations, Air India has set up a separate helpline at +91 8062779200.
The relief flights come as part of a broader support effort following Thursday's devastating incident.
The flight was being operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and was commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar.
Earlier in the day, Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced financial support of Rs 1 crore for the family of each person who lost their life.
"No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured," Chandrasekaran said.
The company also promised to cover medical expenses for the injured and help construct a new hostel at B.J. Medical College as part of its long-term support plan.
'This heart-wrenching incident has brought immense grief to countless families, and our thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones,' said Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts.

DGCA orders Air India to carry out more checks on Boeing 787 fleet after tragic plane crash

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday ordered enhanced safety inspection of Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 fleet, following the devastating crash of the Tata Group airline's London-bound flight, within seconds of take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, in which 241 people were killed on Thursday. As a preventive measure, DGCA has directed Air India to carry out additional maintenance actions on 8787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines with immediate effect in coordination with the concerned regional offices of the DGCA. These include a one-time check before departure of flight from India with effect from June 15 onwards, inspection of fuel parameter monitoring and associated system checks, as well as inspection of cabin air compressor and associated systems. Air India also has to carry out electronic engine control system test, engine fuel-driven actuator-operational test, and oil system check. Besides, the airline has to carry out a serviceability check of the aircraft hydraulic system, review of take-off parameters, and introduce 'Flight Control Inspection' in transit inspection till further notice. Air India also has to undertake power assurance checks within two weeks and closure of maintenance action based upon the review of repetitive snags during the last 15 days on 8787-8/9 aircraft at the earliest. The report of these above checks has to be submitted to the DGCA for review, the order further states. The black box of Air India's ill-fated Flight AI171 has been recovered, and investigations have begun to find out the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, experienced pilots are of the view that it could have been a twin-engine failure of the Boeing Dreamliner, which could be due to a bird hit or contaminated fuel or blockage of fuel or a combination of these factors. Indian investigators will be joined by experts from the US and UK in the coming days to carry out the probe. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was flown by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who had over 8,000 hours of flying and his co-pilot Clive Kunder, who had over 1,000 hours of experience. Immediately after take-off, the pilots gave a Mayday call, after which there was no response from the pilots, and the plane came crashing to the ground and hit a medical college building as it went up in flames.

Gensol insolvency: NCLT admits Ireda's plea on ₹510 crore default

Gensol Engineering, which managed electric-car ride-hailing platform BluSmart, was admitted to the insolvency process on Friday following a plea by the Indian Renewable Development Agency (Ireda). Ireda had moved the National Company Law Tribunal's Ahmedabad Bench, citing a default of Rs 510 crore. The matter was filed under Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), which outlines the initiation of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) on a plea moved by a financial creditor or lender. A coram ('in the presence of') of Judicial Member Shammi Khan and Technical Member Sanjeev Kumar, however, said they were not appointing the resolution professional suggested by Ireda. Ireda's lawyer had urged the tribunal to make an appointment to look after the company, saying Gensol was 'headless' after its promoters allegedly were missing amid regulatory scrutiny. 'By virtue of Sebi's (Securities and Exchange Board of India) order, the company is now headless. Directors have walked out and the company has projects worth crores of rupees. Somebody needs to manage the show,' the lawyer told the Bench. The financial creditor also alleged a breakdown of internal controls and corporate governance norms at Gensol, accusing the promoters of running the listed firm as if it were their proprietary firm. BluSmart on April 16 had paused cab bookings in certain parts of Delhi-National Capital Region, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, the three cities where it operates. The rides were halted a day after Sebi debarred the promoters and directors of Gensol Engineering — Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi — from accessing the securities markets allegedly for fraudulent practices and funds.
