After a relatively muted 'launch' at CES 2025, AMD's next-generation GPU architecture, RDNA 4, has been left to leaks and rumours, as to how much better it's going to be compared to previous Radeon iterations. One tech site, however, is claiming that it has the real deal—AMD's own performance claims—and depending on what you were hoping for, you might be excited or disappointed.
The site in question is Videocardz and it claims AMD announced the performance figures at a press briefing, to which it wasn't invited, but managed to scoop the details anyway. We already know a fair amount about RNDA 4 and the Radeon RX 9000-series, such as the number of compute units, VRAM amount, and rough clock speed figures.
However, translating all of that into actual gaming performance is difficult to do because we don't know what other changes AMD has implemented under the GPU hood. That will eventually become clear once the new cards fully launch but for now, we'll just have to trust that Videocardz really does have AMD's performance numbers.
Starting with the RX 9070 XT, it's purportedly 42% faster than a Radeon RX 7900 GRE (RDNA 3) and 51% faster than a RX 6900 XT (RDNA 2). That's at 4K, averaged across more than 30 games, using 'Ultra' quality settings. The latter is over four years old, so one should hope the RX 9070 XT is considerably better, but a 42% mean uplift over a 7900 GRE is not to be sniffed at.
In our review of a Sapphire RX 7900 GRE, we found that the RX 7900 XT was on average just 18% better at 4K, so if this 42% increase is genuine, it marks a substantial improvement for AMD. However, the devil is in the details and the horned one in question here is ray tracing.
Videocardz has separated AMD's claimed gaming figures into standard rendering and ray-traced rendering games, and in the case of the former, the average uplift is 37%—still impressive but not quite 42%. However, averaging the improvements in the games with ray tracing puts the RX 9070 XT at 53% better than the RX 7900 GRE.
The standard RX 9070 is quite a bit slower than the 9070 XT, with an average uplift of 21% against the 7900 GRE. That's half as good as the XT version and I find that to be puzzling, given that all the rumours we've had about the two card's specifications have pointed to them being separated purely by clock speeds.

Something clearly isn't right but exactly what's incorrect isn't known—either Videocardz's numbers are incorrect, the rumoured hardware specifications for the cards are wildly incorrect, or AMD's marketing figures have errors in them. All three scenarios could be true, as well.
One thing that really puzzles me is, if the RX 9070 XT really so much better than the 7900 GRE, why didn't AMD compare it to the 7900 XT—currently it's second most powerful gaming graphics card?
At least we don't have long to discover the truth of the matter, as the RX 9000-series is getting revealed at the end of this month, with retail sales starting in early March. One thing is certainly true, though: AMD likes to keep us guessing.

There are billions of dollars pouring into data centers to prepare for an AI-driven economy. But many of the world's data centers are equipped with legacy equipment and not up-to-date for the demands of AI workloads. This is a huge opportunity for CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV), one of the leading operators of purpose-built data centers for AI. CoreWeave just completed its initial public offering this year, but its first earnings report as a public company reveals incredible demand for its cloud computing services. Revenue is soaring, increasing from $189 million in the first quarter of 2024 to $982 million in the 2025 first quarter. Moreover, it had a massive and growing revenue backlog worth $25.9 billion in the first quarter, an increase of 63% over the year-ago quarter. Much of this year-over-year increase was driven by a recent $11.9 billion deal with ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The growing revenue backlog indicates significant long-term financial commitments for the company's services. It generates revenue either on a contractual basis or on demand, but most of its revenue comes from contracts, which can extend over several years. Investors are usually willing to pay high price-to-sales multiples for companies that have a high visibility to future revenue like CoreWeave. One risk investors will want to watch is whether it can secure enough power over time to run its data centers and meet growing demand. Large data centers need a significant amount of electricity, and that could create challenges with growing demand for AI. CoreWeave appears to be in good shape on this front. It says it has 420 megawatts of power supporting 33 AI-optimized data centers across the U.S. and Europe. It has also contracted to receive additional power, providing it with up to 1.6 gigawatts over a multiyear period. The stock's market cap sits at $53 billion at the time of this writing. Based on the company's 2025 revenue outlook, this represents a forward price-to-sales ratio of 11, which seems fair for a fast-growing infrastructure-as-a-service provider. As the company continues to report strong growth, this valuation can support new highs for the stock in 2025 and beyond. Nvidia has been the leading AI chip supplier for data centers, but it can't control 100% of this $500 billion opportunity. There is also growing demand for chips from Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), and its stock trades at an attractive valuation that makes it a compelling buy ahead of this long-term opportunity. AMD has experienced mixed results across its business segments over the past year. While its data center and client segments (including sales of PC chips) are seeing strong growth, its gaming and embedded segments (including sales to industrial markets) have been underwater. In the first quarter, AMD's revenue fell 3% over the previous quarter but soared 36% year over year, driven by data centers and strong demand for its Ryzen processors for PCs. The high margins from data center chips contributed to a robust 55% year-over-year increase in adjusted earnings, which shows the company can still drive tremendous growth even when some segments are experiencing weak demand. The data center momentum makes the stock a compelling buy. There were recently more than 30 computing workloads launched using its fifth-generation EPYC Turin chip across the leading cloud providers, including Alibaba, Amazon, Alphabet's Google, and Oracle. The company also made an important strategic move to narrow the competitive gap with Nvidia. Its recent acquisition of ZT Systems will allow it to provide AI computing systems combining chips, networking, and software. Nvidia has offered a full-stack solution to gain a strong foothold in the data center market, but AMD will now be able to offer something similar to win more business. With management seeing a recovery in the second half of the year for its embedded chip business, AMD could see strong momentum by this time next year. The stock seems to be underestimating its growth prospects, trading at just 28 times 2025 earnings estimates. The tech giant wants its Gemini AI model everywhere and plans to put it in all of its devices. It also plans on bringing its AI into more of its services. One of those services getting the AI upgrade is Gmail. Over the course of the upcoming weeks, Gmail users will begin seeing AI summaries of their email, according to a blog post from Google. This summary will provide bullet points of what was in the email as well as any follow-up replies to make sure you're up to date. This feature will only be available on emails in English. Those who don't care for AI summarizing their correspondence can opt out of the feature, but it will be enabled by default. Google began instituting AI features into Gmail last year by having Gemini provide instant replies that no longer sounded generic. At the same time, Google is implementing new AI features, but some people have found the company's AI is far from perfect. A post on Reddit went viral earlier in the week when a screenshot of an interaction with an AI summary on Google Search was unable to determine what the current year was. And yet we can't turn this off from r/google In the screenshot, the individual did a Google search asking, "Is it 2025?" The AI summary they received apparently had issues with the question saying, "It is not 2025. The current year is 2024." Other people on X posted similar results. Wired did multiple tests over this prompt and confirmed the issue. In one case, the AI summary reiterated that it was 2024, but said that in parts of New Zealand and Russia, it was 2025. It even went on to contradict itself, saying that it was 2025 after claiming it was 2024. A Google spokesperson says it was working on the problem. 'As with all Search features, we rigorously make improvements and use examples like this to update our systems. The vast majority of AI Overviews provide helpful, factual information, and we're actively working on an update to address this type of issue,' Meghann Farnsworth, a Google spokesperson, told Wired. As of the publication of this article, Googling "is it 2025" returns with an AI summary saying, "Yes, according to the provided information, the current year is 2025." It remains to be seen if this problem will happen again in 2026. Last month, Intel launched new power-optimized drivers for handheld devices, touting performance gains across various titles. With the latest Arc graphics driver version 32.0.101.6874, Intel is expanding these optimizations to all Core Ultra 200V-powered devices, across laptops and mini-PCs. Since Intel's Arc is still in its early stages, many initial launches have improved with age due to subsequent driver improvements. This has been evident with Alchemist. Furthermore, despite Battlemage offering a relatively stronger and more stable platform at launch, it's clear there is still untapped potential, as shown by these software-driven improvements. Intel's Arc graphics driver 32.0.101.6734 introduced notable low-power mode optimizations for Lunar Lake-powered handhelds, specifically the MSI Claw 8 AI+. After extensive validation and testing, Intel is expanding the scope of these optimizations to all devices, whether laptops or mini-PCs. First-party metrics suggest a 10% bump in performance across the board in nine titles, with the Core Ultra 7 258V at 17W, but your mileage will vary. We'll have to verify these claims through independent testing. It's important to note these improvements are specifically for Intel's low-power Arc 130V and Arc 140V offerings, not the desktop-based Battlemage Arc B-series. The new drivers also address a slew of bugs across various productivity applications and games. A noteworthy detail in the patch notes is the increased memory allocation for integrated Arc GPUs across Core Ultra Series 1 (Meteor Lake) and Series 2 (Arrow Lake and Lunar Lake) product lines, now supporting up to 57% compared to the previous 50% cap. Thus, a 16GB host system can allocate 9.12GB to the iGPU, as opposed to 8GB previously. This isn't the first time Intel has offered improved performance through software updates, as a previous driver release from last October increased FPS by as much as 24%. This builds on earlier optimizations for the Arc platform, so we'll probably see further, likely less pronounced improvements down the road. Most software divisions are likely hard at work preparing the groundwork for next-generation Celestial (Xe3) graphics, set to be introduced with Panther Lake early next year.
