South Range students, staff excited about new lunch option
BEAVER TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – South Range students got a new treat to enjoy in the school cafeteria as the district tinkers with its lunch options.
This week, the school rolled out its Snack Attack Boxes — a grab-and-go, à la carte option for all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
School officials say they try to rotate different items each day, even offering smoothies and smoothie bowls for kids.
It's all part of the National School Lunch Program, offering healthy school lunch options for students.
'We're just trying to switch up different options than the normal school lunches. We want to get kids excited about eating in the cafeteria. We're also doing a Canfield Fair this week here at the cafeteria, so a fair-based themed menu just to get kids more excited. A lot of kids here participate in the Canfield Fair so it's just nice for them to see something they're so familiar with,' said Kaitlyn Pierce, food services director.
School officials are delighted to see how popular the Snack Attack Boxes are with students, but they're also a hit with teachers looking for a quick bite throughout the day.
