Paige Spiranac looked back on her pro debut at the 2015 Dubai Ladies Masters and it brought back 'brutal' memories of when she was barely holding it together.
During an appearance on the 'Quiet Please!' podcast, Spiranac was asked by co-host Mel Reid, who is a pro on the Ladies European Tour, if she remembered playing in Dubai.
'Yeah, that was like the worst moment of my life,' said Spiranac, who shot rounds of 77 and 79 to miss the cut at the Dubai Ladies Masters. 'I'll never forget that.'
Spiranac — who graduated from San Diego State and then went pro in August 2015 — was a rising star on social media, where she posted snapshots of her sultry golf outfits.

Many believed that an invitation to the prestigious Dubai Ladies Master was above her level of play.

Spiranac told Reid and her co-host, golf personality Kira Dixon, that she heard gossip — including false rumors that she 'did sexual favors to get this invite' — from fellow female players at the Dubai Masters.
'I ended up going viral and this was back when people weren't going viral all the time and I didn't know how to handle it and my whole life got flipped upside down. I went from having 500 followers to 100,000 followers,' Spiranac said.
'I got this invite to play an LET (Ladies European Tournament). I had just turned pro, I had never played golf outside the country. And everyone was like, 'It's low key, don't worry about it. No one is going to know if you play well or not.'

'I show up and was doing hours of press, which I wasn't prepared for. I had no training to do this. And I would say there were a couple of girls who were really supportive and who were nice, but the majority, it was brutal. I would go on the range and girls would just scatter. No one wanted to hit next to me.

'There were constant comments like 'I did sexual favors to get this invite,' and I was listening to it — and they would say [it] within earshots of me. It was tough. Not knowing what I was doing, it was my first pro event, it was really difficult. I just wanted to be liked and I played so bad. It was horrendous.'

Spiranac, who recalled being 'badly' criticized for her play, explained that she understands why she 'ruffled some feathers' with her sponsored invite to Dubai.
'You work your ass off, week in and week out… and here comes me and I just walk on in,' she said. 'I got the new Callaway bag and I had Lululemon that week. I can see why it ruffled some feathers.'

Spiranac has since turned her massive social media following into a lucrative influencer career, including brand deals and modeling gigs.

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown hosts 741 Performance pop-up

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown made a surprise appearance at a 741 Performance pop up event he had held in the City of Boston this past Saturday (June 7). The Georgia native has bucked his usual tendency of squeezing in some world travel and training in other cities during the NBA offseason to remain near the city he has made a home in over the course of much of the last decade, and has been holding 741 Performance pop up events while local. The brand, Brown's personal imprint with the intentional goal of providing a quality athletic apparel brand that is not part of one of the major corporations that tend to dominate the industry, has been picking up steam recently, the Cal alum's pop ups certainly helping put some inertia behind that trend. Michelle Obama weighs in on daughter Malia, 26, dropping her last name

Michelle Obama has weighed in on her eldest daughter Malia's decision to drop her last name in professional projects. The former First Lady said the 26-year-old is 'trying to make her way' in the film industry after it emerged that she now uses the name Malia Ann in a professional setting. 'I mean, it is very important for my kids to feel like they've earned what they are getting in the world, and they don't want people to assume that they don't work hard, that they're just naturally, just handed things,' Michelle said on Kate and Oliver Hudson's 'Sibling Revelry' podcast Monday. 4 Michelle Obama has weighed in on her eldest daughter Malia's decision to drop her last name in professional projects. Tribune News Service via Getty Images 'They're very sensitive to that — they want to be their own people.' The 'Becoming' author, 61, added that both Malia and her younger sister, Sasha, 23, have wanted to to forge their own paths in life from an early age. 'They are young adult women, but they definitely went through a period in their teen years where it was the push away … [where] you're trying to distinguish yourself,' she said of her and former President Barack Obama's daughters. Malia revealed that she was ditching 'Obama' from her professional name at the premiere of her short film 'The Heart' at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The name is a sweet nod to her late grandmother Ann Dunham, who died in 1995. 4 The former First Lady said the 26-year-old is 'trying to make her way' in the film industry. WireImage 'We were like, they're still going to know it's you, Malia,' Michelle said of the name change. 'But we respected the fact that she's trying to make her way.' 'As they're older, I think they are embracing our parenting principles. They have a clearer understanding of why we did a lot of what we did,' she went on. 'They understand us as full human beings now, in the same way that I think I discovered that about my parents when I went away to college.' 4 Malia revealed that she was ditching 'Obama' from her professional name at the premiere of her short film 'The Heart' at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Getty Images Barack, for his part, spoke about his daughter's decision to drop her last name during an appearance on 'The Pivot Podcast' in October 2024. 'I was all like, 'You do know they'll know who you are,'' the former president, 63, said on the podcast. He explained that Malia wanted audiences to watch her film without thinking of her family ties. The father of two admitted that neither of his daughters are interested in using their family name to get ahead. 4 Barack and Michelle Obama are also parents to daughter Sasha, 23. 'I mean they're very sensitive about this stuff. They're very stubborn about it.'
