Special times for this new Fresno State commit as he reunites with mom after one year

Yahoo11-01-2025

There were some happy faces this week for Jayon Farrar and his mom.
The Ventura College wideout was recruited by Fresno State offensive coordinator Josh Davis. Farrar told him a lot about himself and what he brings to the field.
Farrar, listed at 6-foot, said Davis was very interested in him after their long talk.
The next morning, Davis called Farrar and offered him a full-ride scholarship on his birthday on Jan. 5. Davis invited Farrar for an official visit on Jan. 7 with his mom, who hasn't been on a plane since before 9/11.
Farrar said his mom, Patricia Farrar, was working in one of the World Trade Center towers on the 14th floor when the two airplanes collided into both towers.
She made it out before the building collapsed.
Ever since, she had not gotten on a plane until Farrar made his official visit to Fresno State this week. She flew in from New Jersey for her son's special occasion.
'From the very first conversation, it felt like I had known the coaching staff my entire life,' Farrar said. 'They truly understand their athletes, not just as players but as individuals, and the amount of support they provide is unmatched.
'And seeing the way they took care of my mom and treated her as she was family was big for me, and that made the decision an easy one.'
Farrar made his commitment on Friday and was ecstatic to reunite with his mom after a long year while he was in Southern California.
He said it was worth the wait.
'It was amazing,' he said. 'It was big for my mom because she was a 9/11 survivor and getting on a plane was a really big thing for her to overcome. And due to JUCO ball I haven't seen her in a year, so it's really big for me as well to see her. I see her have fun with the coaching staff, and the hospitality that they've shown her was out of this world.'
Farrar finished with 47 receptions for 542 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns for Ventura.
He played for former Fresno State assistant Steve Mooshagian, who also played for the Bulldogs.
Farrar said he knows a lot about Fresno State. His favorite NFL receiver is Davante Adams.
'I've been watching him since I was a kid,' Farrar said. 'Knowing this program helped shape him into the player he is today feels like a dream come true.
'I believe I bring a lot to the table as a player. I have explosive speed, reliable hands, and the ability to make defenders miss in open space. I can create something out of nothing and pride myself on being an explosive kick returner as well. Whether it's returning kicks, making tackles on special teams, or making plays as a receiver, I'm ready to do whatever I can to help Fresno State win.'

Nahir Albright says Keyshawn Davis headbutted him after he beat Davis' brother

Nahir Albright says Keyshawn Davis headbutted him after he beat Davis' brother A disappointing weekend for boxer Keyshawn Davis allegedly turned violent Saturday night outside of the ring. Boxer Nahir Albright told reporters that Davis headbutted him and left a large bump over his right eye. He said the incident took place when Davis and his younger brother, Keon, confronted Albright after Albright beat the oldest of the Davis brothers, Kelvin, by majority decision at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The weekend already had soured for Davis, who on Friday weighed in 4.3 pounds more than the maximum for his WBO lightweight world title defense scheduled for Saturday. That led to the cancellation of the bout against Edwin De Los Santos and the WBO title was stripped from him. Then came the alleged incident described by Albright. 'I was in my locker room and celebrated my victory with my team,'' he told reporters in a videotaped interview. '…Keyshawn and his little brother (Keon) came in and they started looking at me and was like, they saying something about his older brother. They was mad and he grabbed me, pushed me back. 'I'm grabbing his head. He moved his head towards my head.'' Then came the headbutt, according to Albright. 'So yeah, that's what happened,'' he said, the incident was not sparked by any exchange of words. '…Their locker room is right next door to mine, so I guess they heard us happy and all that kind of stuff, and they came in and started trouble.'' Of the confrontation, Albright told ESPN, 'Now we've got to settle that'' and said he wants to fight Keyshawn Davis in the ring. Davis beat Albright by unanimous decision in 2023 but the result was turned to a no contest after Davis tested positive for marijuana – a banned substance in Texas, where the fight was held. But late Saturday, the talk centered on controversy outside of the ring. For Davis, instead of being featured in the main event in his hometown of Norfolk, it all went awry. Davis, 26, showed up Saturday at the Scope Arena with his son of less than a year and cheered on his two brothers. Keon, 23, won his fight via a second-round TKO. But Kelvin, 28, got pummeled by Albright, who won the 10-round bout by majority decision. During the altercation, Albright said, his coaches eventually interceded. 'My coaches grabbed (Keyshawn Davis) and then I think security came in and grabbed him,'' Albright said. Later, Albright said, Davis charged after Albright's older brother. 'It just got crazy,'' he added. But Albright said he thinks Kelvin Davis, the brother he beat in the ring Saturday night, was trying to break things up. 'It's a little unfortunate, but nothing could take away the feeling of being a champion tonight,'' he said, referring to the vacant Silver US WBC Jr. Welterweight title he won. 'I ain't going to let nothing ruin my night.'' ESPN reported that the Davis brothers did not comment.

Cowboys Icon Highlights Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Hypocrisy

Cowboys Icon Highlights Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Hypocrisy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - According to a former Dallas Cowboys star, the Pittsburgh Steelers have jumped from the frying pan right into the fire. Advertisement When the Steelers traded talented-but-temperamental receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys, rumors out of Pittsburgh surfaced that one of the reasons they gave up on him was his penchant for creating locker-room drama and distractions. Iron-fisted, football-first head coach Mike Tomlin doesn't put up with nonsense, the theory went. Until ... hello, Aaron Rodgers. Not sure what happened to Tomlin — did he go "soft" overnight? — but the Steelers want their fans to believe that Rodgers won't be the distraction they claimed Pickens was. It is Rodgers, remember, who claims that 9/11 was an inside job, that he knows more about COVID than Dr. Anthony Fauci, and that he could simply "manifest" a Super Bowl with the New York Jets with positive thoughts and vibes. He also flirted with a political career last summer and then skipped a Jets minicamp to vacation in Egypt. Advertisement On the field, Rodgers' mediocre play helped lead to a 1-4 start that got both the head coach and general manager fired. After a 5-12 season, the Jets let him walk. He is 41, and the lone Super Bowl of his 20-year career came in 2011. It was Cowboys content creator Jordan Tucker who first pointed out Pittsburgh's hypocrisy on social media. Then Dez Bryant chimed in. Wrote Tucker, "Imagine moving on from George Pickens thinking he was a locker room distraction only to end up with Aaron Rodgers as your QB." Added Dez, "You said it." To be fair, Dez knew his way around a distraction or two during his Cowboys career. And soon after agreeing with Tucker, Bryant glowed about the prospect of Rodgers succeeding in Pittsburgh. Advertisement Wrote Dez, "I think Aaron Rodgers is going to ball in Pittsburgh." Despite that seeming flip-flop, Dez's initial point stands: The Steelers rid themselves of a player who causes distractions to save their season, and have now signed a player notorious for causing distractions in an attempt to save their season.
