Deliveryman reportedly raped Wilbraham resident, Springfield man arrested
WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A deliveryman was arrested in connection with sexually assaulting a Wilbraham resident.
In a news release by the Wilbraham Police Department, officers were called on Sunday, Feb. 9th for a report from a resident saying they were a victim of a sexual assault that had just occurred in their home. The victim told police they ordered an item to be delivered and that the person who delivered it sexually assaulted them.

On Thursday, Wilbraham police arrested Roiber Andres Rodriguez-Melendez of Springfield. He is charged with rape and was arraigned in Palmer District Court on Friday. He is being held pending a dangerousness hearing.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Police Department is warning the community, particularly in the Longmeadow area, about a phone scheme. Springfield man charged with DUI, wrong-way driving in Enfield According to police, the scheme involves callers impersonating Springfield Police sergeants in an apparent attempt to defraud recipients. They said police have been getting inundated with reports from residents receiving calls from individuals falsely claiming to be members of the Springfield Police Department. The schemers are using the real names of both a retired and a currently serving Springfield police sergeant to appear credible. Authorities say no one has reported falling victim to the scheme, but residents have been contacting the police after receiving and hanging up on calls. In the audio file provided by the Springfield Police Department, the recording says they are a sergeant with the Springfield Police Department looking to speak with the person regarding a 'confidential legal matter' and leaves a callback number. The scheme appears to be targeting phone numbers in the Longmeadow area, with reports increasing over the past two days. Police are advising residents to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and not to call the number back. Individuals do not need to notify the police unless they have already provided money or sensitive information. In such cases, or if someone wants to verify the legitimacy of a call, they are urged to contact the Springfield Police Department at 413-787-6355. The Longmeadow Police Department is reminding residents that officers will never ask for payment of any kind over the phone and recommends the following to protect yourself from falling victim: Verify the caller's identity: Always request the full name, identification number, and contact information of the caller. Legitimate law enforcement officers will provide this information without hesitation. Refrain from sharing personal information: Avoid disclosing personal details, such as your Social Security number, bank account information, credit card numbers, or any other sensitive data over the phone. Be cautious of urgent or coercive tactics: Scammers often create a sense of urgency, coercing victims into immediate action. They may threaten arrest, fines, or legal consequences to pressure you into revealing information or making immediate payments. Take a step back, remain calm, and verify the authenticity of the call before making any decisions or taking action. WMass trooper injured in hit-and-run crash while on duty ‘in good spirits'
SPRINGFIELD — A Massachusetts state trooper injured in an hit-and-run collision overnight suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. 'I can tell you he's in good spirits,' State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble told reporters on Tuesday. 'He's in for a long recovery.' The trooper, who has not yet been identified, had pulled over a tractor-trailer early Tuesday morning and was struck by another motorist on the side of the Massachusetts Turnpike near the Chicopee exit, Noble said. 'He was on the way home after finishing his shift, but state troopers are never off-duty while they're in a marked cruiser,' Noble said, standing outside Baystate Medical Center with some of the clinicians who treated the injured trooper. The driver took off from the crash scene, according to law enforcement officials. 'This was a hit-and-run. The operator did not remain at the scene,' Noble said. The driver was arrested around noon Tuesday, but they have yet to be identified. An arraignment has been scheduled in Chicopee District Court on Wednesday morning. The injured trooper had been with the state police for less than a year, but had been a member of law enforcement for a decade. Noble declined to discuss the charges the driver may face, nor would he go into more detail about the trooper's injuries. The incident happened just after 2:20 a.m., close to Exit 51 on the westbound side of Interstate 90, state police said earlier on Tuesday. The crash is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney's Office. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to call 413-505-5993 to speak with state police detectives with the district attorney's office. Noble said the crash that injured the trooper puts a fine point on the importance of careful driving. He also emphasized the importance of the 'Move Over' law in this state, requiring drivers to move over a lane if they spot first responders pulled over on the side of the road. Families of 3 workers killed on I-91 in March attend suspect's arraignment
SPRINGFIELD — After nearly 29 years of marriage, Melissa Almeida now carries a tiny vial of her late husband's ashes everywhere she goes. Her husband, Ryan Almeida, 48, was one of three construction employees working an overnight shift on a road job in West Springfield in March, repairing a guardrail damaged in a crash. He didn't survive the night. Prosecutors said Bilal Griffith, 29, of West Springfield, plowed into Ryan Almeida and two of his coworkers while speeding off Exit 10A on Interstate 91 northbound. Griffith then flipped the Jeep Cherokee he was driving onto its roof, and fled the scene on foot, prompting police officers to search for him with dogs and helicopters, according to prosecutors. At Griffith's arraignment in Hampden Superior Court Tuesday morning, Melissa Almeida saw the man accused of killing her husband for the first time. She heaved a sob when he was escorted into the courtroom in handcuffs and shackles. After the proceeding, when asked how she was coping, she responded 'I just breathe.' She held her husband's ashes in a blue heart-shaped container, and she told a reporter she has set up a makeshift memorial to her husband in her living room in Brockton. The couple had four children and three grandchildren. Almeida drove out from their hometown, a journey of about 100 miles, simply to attend the brief court proceeding. The families of Igor Costa, 26, of Marlborough, and Raul Bohorquez, also of Brockton, 57, were in attendance. The families were unable to attend Griffith's first arraignment in Springfield District Court in March. Griffith remains held on a $1 million cash bail and once again pleaded not guilty to three counts of manslaughter and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash with death resulting. Almeida said she received a knock on the door around 5 a.m. the morning her husband was killed. She was met by a Massachusetts state trooper and two managers from Premier Fence, the workers' employer. 'I just knew right away, right then that something terrible had happened,' Almeida recalled. A pretrial hearing in Griffith's case is set for Sept. 8.
