BAGAN SERAI: The government has allocated RM15.9 million through the Agrofood Mechanisation and Automation Programme to enable departments and agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) to develop farm infrastructure and deliver mechanisation services to targeted groups nationwide.
Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said that of the total, RM11 million is allocated for the procurement of agricultural machinery, equipment and systems, while RM2.6 million is for the development of farm infrastructure, buildings and mechanisation facilities.
RM1 million, meanwhile, is for the supply of machinery spare parts, agricultural mechanisation and automation and so on.
'This proves that the government has taken steps to ensure farmers benefit from modern technology... so that we can increase agricultural yield, reduce operational costs and make the sector more sustainable,' he said when speaking at the Perak state-level Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Handover ceremony at Dewan Dato' Zainal Abidin Zin here today.
He also expressed confidence that such programmes would empower the agricultural sector, to address whatever hurdles and challenges it faced.
As for the programme, he said a total of RM643,985.72 has been allocated for the distribution of small and medium-sized machinery through a matching grant to 185 recipients, involving 20 Farmers' Organisations across Perak.
Arthur said this is part of efforts by KPKM and the Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) to assist and support farmers in ensuring the country's food security continues to be protected.

Johor Port invests RM72.3mil in new cranes

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Port Bhd (Johor Port) has formalised a RM72.3 million purchase of four level luffing cranes with supplier Sany Marine Heavy Industry Co Ltd. In a statement today, Johor Port said the procurement is part of a broader RM1 billion capital expenditure enhancement plan to modernise its port facilities and to support future growth. "The new cranes with their improved lifting performance, improved reach and enhanced durability will improve berth productivity, reduce vessel turnaround time, and deliver a more seamless and efficient cargo-handling experience," the statement said. Johor Port chief executive officer Md Derick Basir and Sany Marine general manager for overseas sales Tony Tang were signatories at yesterday's signing ceremony. Md Derick said: "This investment is a clear demonstration of our commitment to meet the growing expectations of our diverse customer base. "We are focused on enhancing productivity, increasing operational efficiency and reinforcing our position as the port of choice in the southern region," he said. Johor Port is located on 1,000 acres, of which 660 acres are designated as a free trade zone. It is part of utility and infrastructure group MMC Corporation Bhd.

PRG sells remaining 26.21% stake in Esther Postpartum Care for RM1

PRG Holdings Bhd has entered into a share sale agreement to dispose of its remaining 26.21% equity interest in Esther Postpartum Care Sdn Bhd (EPC) for a nominal cash consideration of RM1. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, PRG said the symbolic price was determined on a willing-buyer, willing-seller basis, given EPC's continued losses and negative net assets. 'The consideration for the sale shares at RM1.00 will be paid in cash, and was determined on willing buyer-willing seller basis, based on EPC's current financial position,' the company said. 'The risk and cost of holding the investment outweigh any potential future benefit. RM1.00 simply represents a symbolic transfer of ownership where the purchaser accepts future risks of the company.' According to PRG, EPC recorded revenue of RM4.44 million and a net loss of RM701,313 for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY2024). Its shareholders' deficit stood at RM3.93 million. The proposed disposal is also justified by the fact that the purchaser is already the largest shareholder of EPC and will assume full financial responsibility, PRG added. The group originally acquired the 26.21% stake in EPC in October 2018 for RM3.75 million, including RM1.02 million worth of shares acquired via a call option. However, the entire investment has been fully impaired in prior years, resulting in a nominal gain of RM1 from the disposal. PRG clarified that no liabilities, contingent liabilities or guarantees will be assumed by the group in connection with the disposal. — TMR
