Ambassador of India H.E. Vinod K. Jacob inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Tourism and One District One Product (ODOP) walls at the Consular hall of the Embassy in the presence of Tamil community living in Bahrain. These walls highlight touristic attractions as well as exquisite products identified under ODOP scheme, of the state of Tamil Nadu.
Under the 'focus state/union territory' initiative of Embassy of India, touristic and ODOP products of a particular state/ Union territory are being promoted in Bahrain for a period of around one month. Tamil Nadu is the ninth focus state to be featured at the State/ Union Territory Wall in the Consular hall, after Rajasthan, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Initiative The Embassy actively engages the Indian community for its focus state initiative in sourcing the ODOP products for display at the Embassy.
ODOP initiative aims to select, brand, and promote at least one product from each district of the country for enabling holistic socio-economic growth across all regions. Under this initiative, all products have been selected by States/UTs by taking into consideration the existing ecosystem on the ground, products identified under Districts as Export Hubs and GI-tagged products. Tamil Nadu, located in the southern part of India, is one of the country's top tourist destinations, known for its rich cultural heritage, ancient temples, scenic landscapes, and vibrant traditions. Hill stations Apart from temples, Tamil Nadu also boasts beautiful hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal, which offer pleasant weather and lush green landscapes, making them ideal retreats from the summer heat. Tamil Nadu's tourism offers a perfect blend of history, culture, nature, and spirituality.
The state attracts millions of domestic and international tourists every year, making tourism a vital part of its economy. One-minute silence The event at the Embassy started off by observing one-minute silence as a mark of respect in memory of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. On the occasion, speaking in Tamil, Ambassador Jacob thanked the Bharathi Association for assisting the Embassy in sourcing the ODOP items. A colourful cultural performance in addition to a variety of traditional cuisines were also organized by Bharathi Association.

Indian airline IndiGo orders 30 Airbus A350 widebody planes
India Indian airline IndiGo said yesterday it had signed an order for 30 more Airbus A350-900s, bringing its shopping list for the widebody aircraft from the European aircraft manufacturer to 60. 'We are placing a firm order for 30 Airbus A350- 900s,' said Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, which was founded in 2006 and is behind the largest contract by volume in the history of civil aviation -- 500 Airbus single-aisle aircraft by 2023. The low-cost carrier, India's biggest by market share, is positioning itself as a significant player in the long-haul market.'This strategic move will enable IndiGo to spread its wings further and expand its long-haul international network,' the company said. Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Airbus commercial aircraft vice-president of sales, hailed 'IndiGo's incredible rise'. 'You have democratised flying in India, and now you want to expand internationally,' he said. The A350 planes, with ranges of up to 15,000 kilometres (9,300 miles), will allow it to expand its network further. India hosts aviation power meet
TDT | Manama India's emergence as a global aviation force is taking centre stage this weekend as it plays host to one of the airline industry's most significant events— the 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).. Scheduled from June 1st to 3rd in New Delhi, the event marks the return of IATA's flagship summit to Indian soil after a 42-year gap, last held in India in 1983. Record attendance More than 1,700 delegates, including top airline CEOs, government officials, and global media, are attending the AGM, which is being hosted by India's leading carrier, IndiGo. India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is expected to deliver the keynote address, signalling high-level national endorsement of the gathering. 'We are excited to bring the IATA AGM to India after a 42-year gap,' said Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General. 'India's place in global aviation has changed dramatically. The country has seen record aircraft orders, impressive growth, and world-class infrastructure developments.' IndiGo in the lead IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, who also chairs the IATA Board of Governors, noted that the summit reflects India's growing influence in global aviation. He said aviation is a powerful force for good worldwide and that this is particularly evident in India. IndiGo, he added, is proud to invite the IATA AGM back to India and showcase the country's rapid progress in the sector. India's aviation industry directly employs over 369,000 people and contributes $5.6 billion to the economy. When factoring in indirect, induced, and tourism impacts, the sector supports 7.7 million jobs and adds $53.6 billion to GDP—roughly 1.5 percent of the national total. Summit agenda The AGM will be followed by the World Air Transport Summit (WATS), where major global themes will be discussed, including the financial outlook for airlines, India's strategic use of aviation for development, and the role of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Discussions will also focus on financing the journey to net zero and innovations in payment systems. CNN's Richard Quest will moderate the summit's CEO Panel featuring Pieter Elbers of IndiGo, Joanna Geraghty of JetBlue, Adrian Neuhauser of Abra Group, and Richard Smith of FedEx. Progress and inclusion A highlight of the event will be the sixth edition of the IATA Diversity & Inclusion Awards, which honour efforts to advance gender balance in the industry as part of the 25by2025 initiative. Willie Walsh said the AGM is always a moment for the industry to reflect and regroup in the face of enormous economic, geopolitical, and technological forces. He expressed confidence that the gathering would deliver value to stakeholders and strengthen global collaboration. As global attention turns to India's aviation trajectory, the AGM in New Delhi signals not just a return, but a recognition of the country's new role as a global aviation hub.
